Our premise is this. It seems to us that there has been a 'silent divorce' in the church, speaking generally, between the Word and the Spirit. When there is a divorce, some children stay with the mother, some stay with the father.
In this divorce, there are those on the 'word' side and those on the 'Spirit' side. What is the difference?
Take those of us who represent the Word. Our message is this: we must earnestly contend for the faith 'once delivered unto the saints' (Jude 3), we need get back to expository preaching, sound doctrine such as justification by faith, the sovereignty of God and the internal testimony of the Spirit as taught by men like Martin Luther, John Calvin and Jonathan Edwards. What is wrong with this emphasis? Nothing. It is exactly right.
Take those whose emphasis has been on the Holy Spirit. What is the message? We need to rediscover the power that was manifested in the Book of Acts, there needs to be a demonstration of signs, wonders and miracles; we need to see the gifts of the Spirit operating in the church -- that the world will once again take notice of the church so that people are left without excuse. What is wrong with this emphasis? Nothing. It is exactly right.
We believe that the need of the hour is not one or the other -- but both! It is our view that this simultaneous combination will result in spontaneous combustion! And then, but almost certainly only then, will the world be shaken once again by the message of the church.
This was the message I have preached over the years at Westminster Chapel in London. This is what we are endeavoring to preach in America and around the world. This is not all we preach but it is certainly one of the main things we preach alongside the need for total forgiveness and learning to be sensitive to the voice of the Holy Spirit. We need your prayers. God bless you. Thank you for taking the time to read this special letter to you!

God gave us the book of Job to show us how to respond in midst of suffering. Lean into your trials. God is glorified.

A mature sermon. There's lots of "prosperity-like" teaching around that says God will give you exactly what you want. Kendall is one of the most balanced preachers out there. I used to get his teaching from Westminster Chapel in London. This is the kind of preaching Christians need these days, not just sermons that tickle the ears.

@@kofikarikari2880 Why do you lie? Do you think people are stupid. If you gain money but lose your soul, then in the end you will regret it.

Totally forgiving God...Cut through my heart. The sermon asked the exact questions that I had...Why do bad things happen to good people?...I was surprised to learn that in Heb 11, the heroes of the faith did not receive their promise.

Can anyone show where the Bible talks about us forgiving God? I didn't think so. Wow. Really Wow.

If you would listen to the sermon you would understand that its not at all about us forgiving God, and more about why God allows bad things to happen.

This passage seems to show the other side of this 'totally forgiving' God: Exodus 20:5 "Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the Lord thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me."

"Sinners in the hands of an angry God" has now become "God in the hands of angry sinners"!?!

It is sad that this sermon is necessary. We live in a world where miracles do not happen nearly enough. This comment is written in the context of Covid-19. 84 million recovered, 3 million dead.

These comments are fairly old, but, I would like further explanation on This topic. This was quite sad. Walking with God for three years I need a deeper understanding. How I came to him broken and yet not fully heal holding to hope this was in my eyes the (I don't know how else to phrase it without sounding harsh) ultimate copeout where it discredit everything In The bible, you won't get anything you prayed for at the end we're on our own.

I believe RT Kendall was talking about being blessed By the Lord when we dont get the answer we are looking for....but we get His full hearted love and Mercy to keep us, and promises a bruised reed he will not break. And everything is for a season, even when I think I can't cope with any more something happens after time, that brings peace. So do believe your Life will get better with Him, maybe not the way you think though...His love will scoop you up out of the darkest pit Amen
