That's the thing... this type of stuff was terribly lucky to even hit a radio station since it was electronic music (which is a no no on the radio)
This stuff is still very much around, you just never hear about it... try searching, you'll find artists that still do this kind of stuff (albeit in a different genre, like House, EDM, trance, Chillstep, etc).
