Visiting the Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum

SSAA TV visits the Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum - an outing which will appeal to anyone with an interest in firearms or Australian military history. The factory itself was established in Lithgow, New South Wales, in 1912 to supply Lee-Enfield .303 rifles, Vickers and Bren machine-guns, L1A1 SLR rifles and other small arms to Australia’s defence forces. The factory’s administration block built in 1962 still remains and is now home to the Lithgow Small Arms Factory Museum, showcasing the technological and innovative side of Australian firearms manufacturing.

I enjoyed my visit to Lithgow and the museum. The displays were really impressive and the staff - volunteers, were fantastic! Two hour train ride from Sydney with many stops along the way with great sites to see. Truly worth the time and effort to visit!

I have a Lithgow manufactured Lee Enfield No1*MkIII made in 1943.Excellent rifle and fun to shoot.I just wish i had more .303 ammo.

Apparently the FBI has a far larger collection, mostly the results of weapons taken as evidence. How about sending some to Lithgow boys, as Indiana Jones said "it belongs in a museum" :p The Lithgow museum is a must for rifle/side-arm enthusiasts, please go and see it. BTW do people get to view the FBI collection? That would be sweeeeet.

see the collection was donated, prob after 1996 with all the bans on legal law abiding collectors and the likes.
