Hemoglobin is the major component of blood. it is made up of- Heme and Globin. Heame is Iron and globin is protein. hemoglobin is sometimes also written as- Haemoglobin. hemoglobin carries oxygen to the blood by binding the e04 oxygen molecule with it at its every unit. Hemoglobin is responsible for the shape of red blood cells, which usually appear like donuts but with a thin center rather than a hole. In conditions in which hemoglobin is abnormal, such as sickle cell anaemia, the consequent abnormal shape of the red blood cells can lead to problems. The pigment in hemoglobin is responsible for the red colour of blood.
Hemoglobin functions by binding and transporting oxygen from the capillaries in the lungs to all of the tissues in the body. It also plays a role in the transport of carbon dioxide from the tissues of the body back to the lungs.
The normal range of hemoglobin varies depending upon on age and sex. The average range is 14-18 g/dl for an adult male and 12-16 g/dl for an adult female. (It may warry according to the different lab)
There are several methods available for the estimation or detection of haemoglobin level in blood. These are-
1- Estimation of haemoglobin by Sahli's method
2- Estimation and determination of haemoglobin by colour scale methods
3- Estimation of hemoglobin by specific gravity or copper sulphate methods.
4- Estimation and determination of hemoglobin by hemocue machineIn this video we have used hemocue machine which is most accurate and time-saving machine.
