Oh Lawrie! It was all going so well and you were enjoying the drive and then you weren’t. Seems your air system isn’t happy yet. Could be the pump started to over pressure because the relief valve stuck partially shut when up to temp. That blew the line where it was weak and now it’s leaking air at the relief rather than filling the tanks. Wasn’t this the pump you swapped from DNF? Might be worth replacing all the air lines in case they are perishing and time to strip the pump again. Surprised you didn’t do a trial run to get some miles to prove she’s fine before the wedding. Might be worth keeping some ovies and tools in one of the lockers on the next run. With spare air pump maybe? It’s been like two episodes in one with the second part being What’s Broken Now. How about that for value?
I got maybe five minutes of feeling happy whilst driving the thing before it broke! Yeah, this is the pump off the Dodge, which seemed to be working fine before hand. The pipe which blew however was a new replacement pipe - one of the newest bits on the truck! All the air system before the dump valve has now been removed to serve as a pattern for a brand new replacement, then I guess we'll see if the dump valve still wants to work... She had her little test run the other day - prior to fixing the compressor she wouldn't have even got that far! Ah, life with old vehicles... every road trip is a question mark, spare parts in the trunk and tool box on the rear seat. Of course with a fire engine you're taking that to the next level, but the spirit is the same. I hope you find what went wrong with it. :)
@@Landie_Man They will at some point. Like you said "All vehicles breakdown. Not just vintage.", it's just that vintage vehicles are more likely to do so, all other things being equal. Because, you know, entropy. :)
polishing machine with auto-glym works wonders... so the red isn't you know.. pink... making it wet only hides it for a few minutes :P as for the 'door that won't close'... clean lock mechanism with brake cleaner or wd40, axle lubricant into the lock mechanism and check the door rubbers for being properly inserted. It's not often you see a lady in heavy recovery work. It might be time to seriously consider a brake system overhaul, some of those air lines are probably pretty old by now and they do degrade over time. On the up-side, she ran up to temperature well without throwing coolant our so that's good...
I was quite supprised too! Yeah, all the pipework from the compressor is being renewed, with a look at doing the rest at some point. Yes indeed! And sounded so sweet!
Heya, she's a Dennis rs130. Ordered in 1979, she was delivered to Norfolk fire service as part of a batch of three. She was delivered to Great Yarmouth in July 1981, it ten moved to Stalham. She was disposed on 10th August 1995, going to IFF in Haverhill. She stayed there for 11 years when it was bought by Suffolk Fire Engine Services, and then Gardiner Associates Fire Investigation Training in Wethersfield. Eventually the company wanted a newer and smaller vehicle, so it left training services. It's owner then passed away, and it ended up on Bentwaters industrial park, from where I got hold of her. The doors got their plates on them during its time at IFF.
Ever any issues with plod driving with blues on show? normally they rather blues covered with a black cover or "sock" Although obviously its not being used or/and isnt tying to impersonate anything or anyone Also wondering if the beacon was always a single on one side or if it did originally have 2 one each side? And is it a hella beacon?
Yeah, it's a Norfolk fire service thing, they always used to have them diagonally. Plod has seen it several times, never had an issue, and there's a disabled button installed so they can't be turned on by the driver.

Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels it looks mean as hell. They’re very fast even by today’s standards. I’ve had a dozen fire fighters tell me they hit 110mph on a motorway stretch and that’s fully loaded; back when in service of course. I know of one the same age as yours which is in private hands but it is used on call outs and attends RTAs to extricate people.
Oh it shifts when you want it to! I've seen a video somewhere on UA-cam of a Norfolk one like mine charging through a town at breakneck speed. They must have had nerves of steel. I hit 80 on a runway with Jupes. That was plenty fast enough - and she still had more in her. They're good machines. Good to know there is one still doing what it's meant to

Buckled the frame badly enough that I wasn't able to repair it, and had to drive it home with no antifreeze towing a friend's van so he could be my brakes, lost my best ever vehicle that day.

Ah, life with old vehicles... every road trip is a question mark, spare parts in the trunk and tool box on the rear seat. Of course with a fire engine you're taking that to the next level, but the spirit is the same.
I hope you find what went wrong with it. :)
Yes indeed, it's always an adventure! Thank you, we'll get to the bottom of it I'm sure, and hope to have her out again for summer!
all my vehicles are vintage. They don’t all break down.
@@Landie_Man They will at some point. Like you said "All vehicles breakdown. Not just vintage.", it's just that vintage vehicles are more likely to do so, all other things being equal. Because, you know, entropy. :)
I feel bad by 'liking' this video - feel your pain.
Thank you, we'll get her sorted though!
polishing machine with auto-glym works wonders... so the red isn't you know.. pink... making it wet only hides it for a few minutes :P as for the 'door that won't close'... clean lock mechanism with brake cleaner or wd40, axle lubricant into the lock mechanism and check the door rubbers for being properly inserted. (unless ofcourse someone once took it out and did not mount it back in the correct position ;) it's usually just that. badly lubricated lock thingy.
It has had a good lube up and is greatly improved.
It'll get a good polish when we've sorted the rest of it!
Little tip use a ground ladder or the step from the truck to get the higher spots
But jumping is so much faster 😂
maybe it's time to buy a tow truck aswell ;)
There is one I rather like the look of. But it would need alot of work!
@@lmm My brother's friend is a lorry mechanic and he went to his wedding in October in a lorry recovery truck like the one in this video lol. His work allowed him to use it for free after he fixed it up since it had been sat unused for a couple of years. Imagine if that had broken down lol 😂.
That would have been very embarrassing 😂
lol "that is a much bigger and better truck think i'll need one of them". that's what i always think too when it's time to call one of those again... "we should have at least one of these things of our own so at least we can pick up our own crap when it's broken again" lol.
It's a logical idea right?
I know a dude who works for autohome they do recobery for alot of vintage trucks.also have you got a link for the video on the shout?. Really gutted for ya hope you find the fault and get going soon
I honestly couldn't find another company who would recover her!
I think this is the link
ua-cam.com/video/TnUjw4kl33w/v-deo.html
About ten mins in.
Thanks! Me too!
All vehicles breakdown. Not just vintage.
This is true - mine seem to make quite the habit of it though
It's not often you see a lady in heavy recovery work. It might be time to seriously consider a brake system overhaul, some of those air lines are probably pretty old by now and they do degrade over time. On the up-side, she ran up to temperature well without throwing coolant our so that's good...
I was quite supprised too!
Yeah, all the pipework from the compressor is being renewed, with a look at doing the rest at some point.
Yes indeed! And sounded so sweet!
@@lmm That tends to be life with old, large vehicles, there's always something that needs attention...
Don't I know it! Everything needs attention!
If you you get a recovery truck then you can recover your self every time 😁
There is one I've seen I'd really like to aquire...
@@lmm I'd follow that story . You got a new sub I'd watched the dodge video some time ago and bloody forgot to sub.
Hi Lawrie do you have any info on the appliance itself apart from it was a Norfolk Machine.
5:58 I expected to hear a loud "Fuck off, Geoffrey!"
Lawrie shame ur fire truck broke down but I agree u shud get a tow truck I think it suits u m8
Yeah, I was gutted, there is a wrecker I know of that I'd love to get my hands on. Totally impractical though 😂
@@lmm go for it m8 it suits u 👍
I'd need the following find somewhere to put it first! I don't think it would fit into the shed 😂
@@lmm a lot of people would think a fire engine is impractical so, you know......😀
So a Wrecker would be a very suitable idea 😂
Was this a dry run or did the bride and groom have a back up, anything with a engine and wheels doesn’t like to sit
This was the real deal sadly, but there was indeed a backup vehicle.
If the poxy thing didn't keep breaking we'd take it out more! 😂
Ever any issues with plod driving with blues on show? normally they rather blues covered with a black cover or "sock"
Although obviously its not being used or/and isnt tying to impersonate anything or anyone
Also wondering if the beacon was always a single on one side or if it did originally have 2 one each side?
And is it a hella beacon?
just seen another vid and saw the second beacon is at back of cab
Yeah, it's a Norfolk fire service thing, they always used to have them diagonally.
Plod has seen it several times, never had an issue, and there's a disabled button installed so they can't be turned on by the driver.
@@lmm awesome info, love that fact that they are not both at front.
I live half my time on the norfolk broads and half in Essex
The broads are lovely!
You must come stonking through Suffolk a bit then!
@@lmm
Yeah up and down all the time, i know the A140 like the back of my hand haha
ive been watching loads of the vids here and am loving your channel!
I Absolutely love Dennis’ but isn’t Jupiter a Bedford TK in fireman sam?
I honestly don't know the Fireman Sam Jupiter is based on.
It was the only name for a fire engine though - besides, it's big and red!
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels ah fair enough! Btw are you local? I’m in Buckinghamshire. I would Absolutley love to meet Jupiter. I adore Dennis RS and SS, I drove one in Essex a few years ago
We're over in Suffolk, so bit of a trek, but we'll let you know if she's ever heading your way.
Once we've fixed her. Again.
I love the RS, it's just a fantastic beast of a truck. Probably the best thing I've ever purchased.
Good to know there is one still doing what it's meant to
hi can you do a tour of the fire truck please mate
Hello, yes no problem, we'll cover it in a future Lawrie Special.
@@lmm cheers I am in the fire service
No worries, which Brigade are you part of?
@@lmm I am in the Lincolnshire fire and rescue preservation and support service so we do a lot of event fire cover and we also train like operational fire fighters I am only 13
Oh that sounds like a good thing to be doing with your time. Good on you!
American Fire Engines or Dennis Fire Engines?
Well, mine is obviously always going to be my favourite, but the American things are just stunning, with all the chrome and stuff everywhere!
autoglym colour restorer on her and it will look like new then protect with autoglym resin polish.
That's a good idea!
I was driving my 1980 Ford Fairmont home after work when the brake pedal went to the floor while I was coming up behind a car sitting at a red light, it was either that car or the wall I was rolling along-side of, I chose the wall to avoid ruining somebody else's day as well as my own. Buckled the frame badly enough that I wasn't able to repair it, and had to drive it home with no antifreeze towing a friend's van so he could be my brakes, lost my best ever vehicle that day.
Dave Kauffman no one cares
Damn, that sucks. Always hurts to loose a treasured car.
Why is she called Jupiter??
She's big and red!
I hope you paint the wheels of Jupiter ala Fireman Sams wagon👍👍
I've thought about it, they'll be going red at some point, which is how they where when it was new
Is that the Orwell bridge on the A14 you were going over?
It was!
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels I live in Ipswich. Didn’t realise how close you are!
I live in Ips too!
Don't give up with it
We won't. If you see the latest What's Broken Now, we've made good progress!
This happened in the danish island Læsø once.
So I'm not even original with my breaking down? Damn
Do a Willy’s mb Jeep but in navy gray and has shore patrol
I'd like to have a go in one!
Turns out Rover brooklands green is the right colour and I have to paint the fire engine now
Sounds a good name. Glad you've found the colour you want.
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels Thanks but it’s gonna have to use a hell of a lot of primer
Yeap. Lot of ground to cover 😂
Lawrie's Mechanical Marvels This can only go wrong
The steel plates on the door ruin the look of the appliance
I rather like them, and they're part of its history, picking them up in its industrial days.
How old is it?
She was built in 1981.
What happens when your towtruck inevitably breaks down
I see your point... I should buy two! One to rescue the first!
I would love to restore the paint work on this. Would come up lush
It's something we're hoping to tackle before too long!
@@lmm well if your ever in need of a helping hand. Just give me a shout fella 👍
Where are you based, maybe we'll bring her to you one day!
@@lmm i am from Leeds but i do cover most of the UK well may aswell recently been to the isle of wight so travel is not a issue 👍
That went well
About as well as expected...
Thought England made good things that last forever but apparently not
@@furious1533 The Victorians did. Then again, they also did a lot of not so great things.
aljowen yep
I’m pretty sure that Dennis was a word of good quality but apparently not just forgotten to say that I have changed my channel name from SwankyTvGaming to furious 15
Is the cameraman the same guy who was just in a JayEmm video?
No
@@JayEmmOnCars Ah, thought his voice sounded similar :p
Cameraman was Geffers who pops up in videos here and there. He does most of the filming here at LMM, but has nothing to do with Jayemm on cars.
Tough day Lawrie. Entertaining watch however.
It was a very long, challenging and disappointing day. But we're still here, and we'll get her fixed. Glad you enjoyed coming along for the ride!
@@lmm Even a bad day can provide some interesting content for the channel
That's basically every single what's broken now!
in my country u cant but emergency vehicle
Oh really? That's a shame
Why dont you fix the roof
Because its going to be a pain in the backside. Once it's working again we'll tackle that.
Perkins V8 :)
It's a cracking engine.
Actually looks good that fire engine. Ok need edit this.. now watched all video. Needs work. Plus don't buy a truck bigger than a truck which can tow it.
She looks great - just needs some running repairs!
But I like big trucks, and I cannot lie 😂
did you ever have one of those days when everything you touch just turns to shit? oh, that's right, i just watched you have one. my sympathies to you. look at it this way, if you didn't have bad days, you wouldn't know when you were having a good one.
Yeap. They happen, but as you said, makes the good days even better!
Duct tape might have gotten you home.
It wouldn't have held the pressure.
The pipework needed cleaning after the event anyway sadly.
I did contemplate trying to attempt it though.
@@lmm If thick enough it might but I forgot ho far away from the shop you were, would have re-taped it many times trying I bet.
I was a little isolated. Might have worked - I'll carry some with me for next time 😂
Duck tape it
I tried. It had blocked further down
Buy an old Volvo or Scania instead. 😜
I'd rather have a Scammel!
Good way to add stress to & ruin an otherwise joyous day......that is taking a 40 year old derelict fire truck to a wedding. What ever happened to renting a limo?
Dave Anderson Fun fact: he HAS a limo! A white Rolls Royce no less 😂
She's not quite 40, so still a spring chicken!
She's not derelict either, if you want to see derelict, check out Redruth.
Limos are boring, fire engines are awesome 😂
That may be the most ugliest fire truck ever
Cameron Grant i like dennis fire engine its cool its same as Fireman sam truck
I don't know if the fireman Sam Jupiter was a Dennis.
Don't know what it was modeled on.
What don't you like about it Cameron?
I think she's alot prettier than the modern stuff we have running about.
@@lmm Just looked into this... "Jupiter" in Fireman Sam has been all sorts of things inc. a TK, a Dodge, a more modern Volvo FL6 and some sort of twin headlight-ed Dennis thing
Oh really? Way more than I thought!
Sixth!
Good going - try and move back up next week! 😂
4am is quite early, but I will try. :)@@lmm
I appreciate the effort! That's true dedication right there!
Gosh these Dennis trucks are the ugliest existing
