I can't believe that it was this 16 year-old's destiny to take the life of this precious 7 year-old. We as a city (yes, I am a Chicagoan) must somehow course correct. It is tragic and indeed unconscionable that the young man who pulled the trigger possessed no sense of higher purpose in his life. He could've been on a growth trajectory...an asset. Why was there an unsecured long gun in his household? I have faith that humans can do better. But now, we mourn the senseless loss of life.

Killer had an active arrest warrant for failing to appear in an existing robbery case and turns out police find him at his house with a different firearm, which was stolen. No one in Chicago asks about the robbery charges, the non-monetary conditions for pre-trial release set by the court, the date he last appeared in court, whether anyone tried to contact him after failing to appear, the date the warrant was issued, was the warrant executed and why they couldn’t find him at his house. A bunch of nonsense buzz words and a feigned offer of sympathy. What a joke.
