what makes people including me watch and enjoy ur videos is ur true , real reactions as you drive the cars maan . thanks for sincerity and all informations 🤙🏼
I think I’m honestly warming up to the idea of more hybrid and electrified cars. As being a car guy I still like a old school v8 and a manual or just a engine in general haha. But the torque these electric motors produce is amazing and the engineering is just cool and futuristic.
I just bought the 2018 XC60 Inscription T5; and even that has more power than I’m ever gonna need. An added manual shift option on Dynamic driving mode is a fun extra. The numerous features are exceptional, not to mention the safety advantages over other cars. The most beautiful and well built vehicle I’ve ever owned. I’m leasing, but will likely buy at the end of my term.
Oh man....when it comes to DESIGN, volvo is competing fiercely with Audi for the crown...and at the rate volvo is going, they might surpass Audi...this Scandinavian design theme is really working for volvo... These next gen volvos are....dare I say...."sexy"....lol.....at last "a sexy volvo".....sexy in an intelligent way....that's what these new volveezys are.....Never thought a volvo could be "sexy" but I was wrong.
Cumye West so crazy I really love the look of the E class S class and Cl class and c class 2003 and up bmw to audi definetly they were understated back like how volvo is now
Hey Matt 👋🏻. I’m curious ... where was your review filmed? Beautiful scenery! So ... I had a tough decision on my hands. 🤔. Choice A was Audi Q5 “Prestige” or Choice B ... Volvo XC60 T8 “ Inscription”. The Audi had the virtual cockpit by Google which no one comes close to. BUT the Volvo XC60 INSCRIPTION T8 is sitting in my garage because of three factors ... (1) more comfortable than the Audi Q5. (2) faster when necessary than the Audi Q5 and (3) MOST IMPORTANTLY ... here in California (I’m in L.A.) because the Volvo Inscription T8 is considered a hybrid, it ADMITS YOU TO THE HOV LANE which is crucial. I’m very pleased with it! I’m not going to worry about reliability because now that I’m retired, I intend to turn it in for a new one just before warranty runs out. 😉
Great review Matt! I'm overall impressed with the way that Volvo made the exterior, interior and driving experience of the XC60 top notch on virtually every level possible. In addition, out of all the vehicles that you filmed at the AVA, which one do you like the best? - Michael
The R-Design should have tighter handling if that's what you require, but then the Polestar will offer both better handling and performance, should 0-60 in 4.9 seconds not be enough for you as with the Inscription model.
It’s the inscription model , meant for relaxed driving with plenty of power to get out of trouble or pass on the highway, not for sporty driving . Is that have the air suspension?
Volvo has the best seats in the automotive industry. Lexus is probably 2nd, softer seats but I prefer Ergonomic shape and a bit more firmness by the Volvo’s.
Hybrids in SUV/trucks makes sense. Since the vehicle can normally handle a lot more cargo weight, the batteries do not cause so much of a penalty to the overall chassis dynamics of the larger heavier vehicle. That and what would normally be a vehicle with poor fuel economy, now becomes something that gets good fuel millage. Small cars that are hybrid make little to no sense at all. The weight gain and cost associated with installing a hybrid system in to a smaller sized car, makes the fuel savings useless. For example the Toyota Camry comes in both versions, to where the Hybrid version gets 11 MPG more at a premium of $4K over equally equipped none hybrid model. At $2.50 for an average fuel price per gallon, you could buy roughly 1600 gallons of fuel for the $4K spent on the Hybrid version.
MasterMech77 Maybe it makes no sense to you as an American. But fuel prices here in Europe and most of the rest of the world are something entirely different. I pay the equivalent of $6.50 per gallon (14 SEK/liter), so as you might imagine that initial price difference rapidly becomes insignificant. Also, we get tax subsidies for buying "green" vehicles, so that makes the initial impact even less painful.
Benny Löfgren Well regardless of fuel prices, the negative results of Hybrid systems installed in to light weight compact cars is just backwards thinking (all electric is a whole different subject and makes sense in light weight cars). The weight penalty for having a hybrid system installed in say a Toyota Camry cuts its carry capacity almost in half. Meaning you could not drive "safely" with 4 adults and cargo as the vehicle's maximum gross weight will be over loaded. The standard Camry can easily carry 4 passengers and cargo, without worrying about exceeding the factory breaking systems capacity. However once you start getting in to larger vehicle like Semi-trucks (aka Lorry for the overseas peeps ;) ), you gain all sorts of advantages by installing hybrid systems in to those type of vehicles. I am talking ones that use electric motors in the wheels to drive the vehicle and an internal combustion engine (aka generator running to produce power, set RPM (say 1700 for example or whatever is its most fuel efficient to power output). You would then use a power storage system like say super capacitors in banks to store energy for acceleration so that the "generator" would not have to "rev up" to supply the extra output. Then you can remove the transmission, axles, driveshafts... basically the only thing needed is a hub mount to a form of suspension and a way to attach the drive motors. Not only would you be saving thousands of pounds of weight since the transmission alone in a "semi-truck" can weight in at 4klbs. But now you are taking a vehicle that would average 8mpg or less highway and get a 30mpg or more return. So basically exactly like a Train uses... but instead adapted to be used for larger road based vehicles.
I agree with you on how to design hybrid vehicles, with a power generating engine driving electric wheel motors. However, I would like a battery in the mix as well, for driving shorter distances in for example cities. Super capacitors might work, but I don't think they are super enough. But I disagree with you about putting hybrid technology in "compact" cars (bear in mind that what you call a compact is a normal-sized care in Europe). It is in fact well worth the effort in most cases, both for environmental and fuel cost reasons. Not to mention drivability. An electric motor has instant torque and makes a red-light stop-and-go function very usable, for example. Also, EVs generally have better fuel economy in the city compared to on the highway, while an ICE vehicle is the other way around. A hybrid could be the best of both worlds.
Benny Löfgren I agree EV cars are the way of the future (near future at least), since a fully electric vehicle has none of the weight penalties of running two power trains, like Hybrids have. SO about the Super capacitor banks, vs battery banks. The batteries would allow you to run on pure electric alone for a given distance, however the weight associated with them is what becomes the issue. The design I was referring to in the Semi-truck example I used was to save hundreds if not thousands of pounds of weight by not using batteries. Since weight is the main reason you need more power, which equals a reduction in efficiency. By keeping everything as light as possible, you can use smaller electric drive systems, which in turn requires less power to go further. Of course this is all taking in to consideration that a Semi-truck has to pull 80,000 lbs long distances. That is where traditional hybrid systems are no better then the standard engine alone. When I was talking about compact cars I was referring to one like the VW polo, or vauxhall vectra, Toyota Corolla, Peugeot 308/208... You know cars in the compact and sub compact categories. Heck even "K" cars would fit my example as well. All these types of vehicles should either be installed with some version of small displacement turbo engine tuned for efficiency or go fully electric. In the late 80s and 90s the Honda CRX (which by the way got 50+ MPG from its 1.5l engine in the late 80s) was one of the most fuel efficient vehicles around. However if you take these types of vehicles and stick a Hybrid system in just makes little to no sense, outside of trying to make yourself "fee" good about owning a hybrid. A fully electric version is a great idea, take the Nissan Leaf, or any of the Tesla vehicles, those make sense. You get great range, fast charging, no emissions, and you don't ruin the vehicles utility, by band-aid fixing a hybrid system in to the car.
Man, since Verizon made the worst decision in their history as a company to throttle speeds of unlimited data subscribers to around 10mb/s (as low as 5% of what urban subscribers were getting before) I'm very grateful that Matt Maran is still broadcasting his channel in a still very clear and competitive 1080p, not many action shots so I don't see why that should change. Although, QHD or 4K 30fps HDR would be nice, maybe with upgraded omni-directional microphones or something similar to increase viewer involvement. So long as 60fps isn't part of the equation since it doubles required download speeds and is immensely frustrating for those who check UA-cam whilst on the go/away from home. Samsung's S8, S8 Plus and Note 8 smartphones have studio quality microphones built in so I know some folks are utilising those to improve audio in their channel.
Danny Murphy I don't disagree with you, but one thing you should note is that doubling the frame rate doesn't double the bandwidth use. The reason is, the higher the frame rate, the less difference there is between individual frames, and the video compression algorithms used are specifically tailored to be efficient in those scenarios. Very little data needs to be sent between similar frames since they only send the deltas (diffs).
Hey Matt, did you think maybe the switches on the dash were a little chintzy feeling for a car that costs that much? I was expecting a little better quality..
TheCobruhAlienat0r The T8 xc90 has been out for quite a few years now and that thing has way more weight to lug around with the same engine. To my knowledge there haven't been any massive problems with this power train.
I don't think reliability will be a problem. Every car company has been focused on downsizing and forced induction for a while now, so from an engineering perspective, I'm sure durability is front and center during development.
4 zone climate control is an option on the T5 and T6 but not on the T8. The hybrid battery is located in what would be the drive train tunnel so there was no place to put the vents for the back seats in the T8, so no 4 zone climate control for any XC60 T8.
Love your videos Matt but it would be awesome if you could go back to sports/sporty cars. Like even a 2018 camry xse v6 would be cool just not these boring SUV's. Keep up the good work though!
can you imagine repair and reliability and service cost on a car with turbo supercharger hybrid batteries and a small 4 cylinder. It is a recipe for disaster. just give me a strong V6 or V8 and add cylinder deactivation for better fuel efficiency, or at most a hybrid.
The XC60 is a verrrrry nice vehicle. However, the T8 Hybrid is simply too damn expensive. For $75-80K I can get all kinds of vehicles as nice or nicer. Some Hybrid, some not. Just can't seem to justify the cost factor for a mid-size SUV. Approaching the startospheric range occupied by Range Rover for cryin out loud.
Cumye West Ten years from now everyone will have similar technology so it's not going to be exotic anymore. I'm not that worried about those things. I think it's worse when that central touch screen that controls virtually *everything* in the car gives in...
I checked out the prices and it costs roughly the same as mustang gt here in Croatia (the inscription hybrid he is driving here vs GT 5.0 premium mustang he owns). I think the government gives you back some money if you buy a hybrid, so it makes it cheaper actually.
Nice!
This guy is not professional. He speaks in a very hurried, non-stop manner. He almost seems like he's on drugs all hyped out. He needs to calm down and come across as much more professional and not some guy 'they grabbed off the street' haha. 😂
All 60, & 90’s are Very underrated, & under appreciated SUVs. Well done Volvo
T U I’m getting my XC60 T8 in two weeks and I am beyond excited!
Shhh, we don't want EVERYONE to know! I have a 2018 V60 CC, and a 2018 XC60 T8, love both.

also glad that u wear those pumas less often , sorry bro :D
This car is so perfect. Everything I want in a vehicle
Damn volvo has one of the best looking cars on the road now, so good looking!

Ivan Nichols I think the lack of tech back in the day made manufacturers be more innovative
It is more environment friendly.
i can see the pure joy he had throughout the ride.
He had that yee-boi-its-lit face on even while talking.
Exciting review, can't wait to get mine!
It was kinda fun to watch your enthusiasm when putting the proverbial "pedal to the metal" on this fine SUV. Great review.
I like your reviews because they are simple easy and real! Keep up with the good job.. greetings from Cyprus

The Future Is Volvo
Turbocharged, supercharged, electrified!!! What's next, nuclear powered too???
pedro fernandez you're on to something.
Butcher.cs still less power than a normal v8
Perfect example of using way too many tricks to get more power out of a puny 4 banger.
Butcher.cs nope, powered by dark matter. Although nuclear would be interesting.
pedro fernandez I'm kinda concerned how reliable this car is going to be lol.

+Nexccelerator thanks! Out of all the AVA cars the McLaren 570S Spider was my favorite.
Wow ! That is a very clean look to the vehicle.
The R-Design should have tighter handling if that's what you require, but then the Polestar will offer both better handling and performance, should 0-60 in 4.9 seconds not be enough for you as with the Inscription model.
I love when you do your acceleration pull and you get giddy like a school girl! 😆
Can you give us a sound demo of the audio system when reviewing the cars.
You look like you are driving for the first time... how exciting hum
Nice review Matt!
I love how Volvo has established its own identity without copying other carmakers cough cough Koreans cough
It’s the inscription model , meant for relaxed driving with plenty of power to get out of trouble or pass on the highway, not for sporty driving . Is that have the air suspension?
Great review man
Where was doug demuro in the top youtube car reviewers??
Nice! Also are you going to do the new Mazda CX-9 review? 😍
+Donovan if Mazda ever decides to send me press cars lol.

how far can you drive in just the EV mode?

Benny Löfgren Oh, I did not know that, but there is a slight difference right?
Danny Murphy Absolutely. I don't have numbers handy, but I'd guess 20-25% more, or something like that.
Nice you told us how nice the back seat was but I would like to see you sit in it so we could gauge the packaging. Thanks for the review.
Hey Matt I seen a Shelby GT350 yesterday
That engine minus the hybrid would be awesome in a coupé.
Impressive
Perfect... The best car
xc60, x3, stelvio, macan, velar, q5, or f pace?
+Erahia I’ve only driven the XC60, Q5 and F-Pace so it’s hard for me to say until I’ve driven all of them.
Do a Jeep compass review
Review the 2018 Toyota camry xse
Dhamani Bourne Would be a riveting review because the Camry is SUCH an interesting car!
Dhamani Bourne Jk just get an Accord instead
Ben O That is a cool car also
Tests review?
Hey Matt, did you think maybe the switches on the dash were a little chintzy feeling for a car that costs that much? I was expecting a little better quality..
+S H they all felt great to me.
Interesting. Guess I’m just being picky. Great review as always! Keep up the great work!
(x) L / 100 km ???
Do you have this car?
Sorry,I speak Finnish. :(
Could you do a review on a 1995 Toyota Celica (GT) thinking of getting one for college. Thanks
What's that ticking noise???
Albert S. Thx thing was annoying
How is Volvo reliability these days? Doesn't matter how nice the interior is if it's in the shop all the time.
shindawg3 I know they were pretty reliable when ford owned them but not so sure now.
Very nice but ludicrously priced in Canada
skronybonnie yeppp
It’s nice new but give it a few years for the interior quality to really be tested.
It's not like this is Volvo's first vehicle. They have a track record and have been offering outstanding interiors for decades.
I'd more more worried about the powertrain. Turbo and supercharging a 4 cylinder and having it lug around this heavy SUV will wear it out real quick.
Lol you'd be surprised my Volvo is 20 years old with leather seats and the interior is still clean as hell.
Hey Matt, does it corners like the Ford Edge?
Ford Edge Sport felt a little more flat and stiff.
Very nice suv but 15g to much:( but get a A- in looks and just being alittle differnt good job Volvo no work on the price
Epic
Turbocharged, supercharged and a hybrid but no back seat vents? 🤦🏾♂️
The four-zone climate control with the extra back seat vents is an option so it does have it, only that this car wasn't equipped with it
4 zone climate control is an option on the T5 and T6 but not on the T8. The hybrid battery is located in what would be the drive train tunnel so there was no place to put the vents for the back seats in the T8, so no 4 zone climate control for any XC60 T8.
Jaion Cebollero Not correct - "only two" back seat vents. There is one in each B pillar.
Love your videos Matt but it would be awesome if you could go back to sports/sporty cars. Like even a 2018 camry xse v6 would be cool just not these boring SUV's. Keep up the good work though!
Josephious Brosif he does all those videos on Wednesday’s. He keeps the weekends for the less sporty reviews.
Where’s Doug DeMuro when you need him
4.9 seconds? That's better than a Civic type r 😶
Back end still looks like a mummy shopping machine. Front looks good.
can you imagine repair and reliability and service cost on a car with turbo supercharger hybrid batteries and a small 4 cylinder.
It is a recipe for disaster.
just give me a strong V6 or V8 and add cylinder deactivation for better fuel efficiency, or at most a hybrid.

Maintenance on this car will put u in the poor house for sure.
Yeah I would always have it covered by a warranty, even an extended warranty is necessary
who skips to his reaction part
tri power...10 years from now when I can afford this 100K car will I be able to afford the maintenance?
Cumye West Ten years from now everyone will have similar technology so it's not going to be exotic anymore. I'm not that worried about those things. I think it's worse when that central touch screen that controls virtually *everything* in the car gives in...
Edit video pro...
Priced one out in Canada. 85-90k. Ummmm no thanks.
I checked out the prices and it costs roughly the same as mustang gt here in Croatia (the inscription hybrid he is driving here vs GT 5.0 premium mustang he owns). I think the government gives you back some money if you buy a hybrid, so it makes it cheaper actually.
Sapient Budgie fyi this is not cheap vehicle. lol this belong to merc bmw audi category
I think its better, it belongs to a class of its own. 400+hp luxury hybrid, sq5 has a diesel and has like 50hp less TFSI (talking about T8 ofc)
awis kwan sure. But I get an sq5 for 70k. Same Volvo in the video is 88k. No thanks.
Mario D. Zmaj it’s not worth 88k
Massage seats! that's way too much comfort option for a car. people literally fall asleep If they turn on that option.
Adi Dora On the contrary. It helps prevent your body from getting stiff and unresponsive when driving for long stretches of time.
Not sure if I'm ready for Chinese engines, who knows, maybe they will prove to be well built.
Nice! - das ist einfach nicht auszuhalten: "nice" - alles ist "nice" ?! Der Kommentator sollte sich selbst einmal hören, und er wagt es, sich selbst zu den besten zu zählen: schier unerträglich! Yeah, 400hp car for old people... so they could accelerate in 5 seconds to 100kph when they're on their way for their pension.
I think you never owned any cars. You don't have any idea about Volvo lol...sad
Sell out
