      @@judon4908 i guess sometimes some statements go over people head because they lack understanding. Nas is held in high regard by one demographic & i’ll call that real hip hop fans. There is no love outside of that & nobody defends it like they do a jay or a pac. People allow it to be said em is better lyrically in a hip hop space or that consensus that nas doesn’t have 8 platinum albums under his belt & he’s never topped billboard & always talked exclusively to the hood. Nas did the only hip hop 50 celebration where he showed love to everyone & none of you kids cared but everytime you hear jay cashed another check yall get excited. Nas is celebrated by those who know but not universally. None of you cared when 22 said his statement but let he had said that about jay or em & you kids would’ve never shut up about it

      Lots of reasons. His laid back quiet personality doesn’t gain him traction with the masses. Although he made some hits for the radio/mtv…the others you mentioned had way more of those types of hits. He wasn’t flashy. Like I can’t even think of a Nas interview. But there’s plenty I think of from PAC, dmx, Em, snoop…etc. So the answer is he didn’t put himself out there as much as the other greats. And these are the results.

    Malcolm jamal is a million percent correct in his comments regarding rap music!!!

  • @IceManLikeGervin
    @IceManLikeGervin 12 днів тому +6

    Malcolm Jamal Warner is 100% correct in relation to corporate mainstream rap. Corporate mainstream rap is all about the most negative particulars including drugs, sex, murder, guns, criminality, gangs, materialism, self hate and more which equates to musical genocide. While female corporate mainstream rappers are nothing more than stripper rappers promoting all sorts of vulgarity and promiscuity to young girls. Underground Hip-Hop is still alive and kickin' science as well as knowledge of self. Fun Fact: most record labels are highly invested in prisons which mainstream rap music leads many of its listeners into criminal activity and eventually prison which means they profit from the music and the incarceration of the music's listeners.

      Exactly CORPORATE Rap and at the exact same time there are plenty of great Rap Artists out. JID, Big Sean, Tyler The Creator, Ab Soul, Kendrick, Cole, Earthgang (Dreamville), Deniro Farrar, Cambatta, Sauce Walka etc. People spend too much time complaining about the radio instead of listening and supporting the Artists that do make good music. Music finds the audience and the audience finds the music. I started out on BDP, Public Enemy, LL Cool J and a whole lot of Reggae and R&B. What's good to me has always been how my ears perceived it so it doesn't matter what people put out there musically. As the consumer your ear will decide what is good!

    Peace!
    I wouldn't say that today's Hip-Hop isn't necessarily "anti-Black", because alot of what we hear is representative of the artists' life experience, and they have a right to express those experiences artistically.
    The caveat to that, though, is the conglomerates/PDs that are responsible for creating the playlist we listen to, need to consider every aspect of Black life. Not just what we call the anti-Black experience.
    Everything has its place, but there needs to be a balance.
    Peace!!

    I know people like to simplify things and not use too many words so they'll say "hip-hop" but it's not simply hip-hop, it's the lyrical content in the mainstream hip-hop of today. Hip-hop is an artform created by a marginalized group of people that allowed those same marginalized peoples to rise above their circumstances and turn the expression of their frustrations into businesses careers and opportunities to transform their lives and their communities.

    I don't like the comparison that's made between movies and hiphop. Movies are clearly make believe. Robert Deniro never claimed to be a real gangster. But for hiphop artists, it's implied heavily that these people are actually living the lives that they portray to the point where you're mocked if you're found out to be lying about any of these things. The conversation is vastly different.

    That Love is Hell with the S being the lightning strike, horns on the E is suspect for darkness n this dude spells black with a 6 is craaazy! Signs don’t lie y’all . “Play” we got to pray 🙏🙏🙏 “ A Fly Girl” was the jam of all jams in the summer! That beat shhh shhh, boom, shhh, shhh,boom was infectious every body knew that song n all the ladies loved it! It was like an anthem for the hip-hop girls! I think I seen girls wearin “Fly Girl” name chains after that song although they used to wear their own or others before that 82-84 the swap meets n jewelry stores was making a killing then! I think the only other song that used to bump as far as a beat like that was “We will Rock you “ by Queen! Yeah the rap of today is Rock influenced n dark filled with depression,self hate, sexism,violence n straight divide n conquer. Their dress style is very Rock centered. We talkin bout late 70’s to early 80’s rock style very androgynous. Tight jeans, piercings,tattoos, colored hair, torn clothes n actual five pointed stars, signs n symbols, and also a bit of hippie influence with magic. They still wear chains though. 😳😳😳😎🤩🤔
