I spent a good hour at bass pro a couple of days ago comparing scopes. The glass clarity, color, and sharpness in the Leupolds was very apparent from the 2 to 7 hundred dollar range. The highest end vortex scopes were good but I felt like the Leupolds were light years better. The vortex scopes seem to sacrifice glass quality for features in my opinion

I have a Leupold VX5HD 3-15 that I bought last Feb and it has the "Firedot" illumination, so it is available, but it's only a dot, not the entire reticle. And I love it. Sits on my 30-06 and has no problem on targets out to 420 yds (so far).
Wonder how long it would take before somebody informed him that you can get thefire.in the HD5 It's bad when you're doing a review and don't know what you're talking about with the scope
Vortex used to be decent but after going thru 4 of them I won't touch another vortex scope at all I bought 2 vortex viper razor hd lst and both had parallax and horizontal adjustment issues the only good 1 was the razor HD amg wich I sold and went back to night force .... I typically run lepold vx5hd or vx 6 hd on all my rifles now
What scope do you recommend for a 22lr that is better for close hunting in woods. I will only be doing squirrel hunting with it so I am trying to find the best scope for this purpose.
I'd get the vx freedom 3x9-33 efr. You can adjust parallax to as low as 10 yds. I have they older vx2 3-9×33 efr on my .22. Awesome scope you can afford it's worth it.
Leupold ,s first 30mm tubes were heavy because all they did was to take A 30mm tube and drill a one inch hole in it.Now they sell Var.x 2 as the freedom scope line with large gold band instead of the small band.Anything to make money.

If you wanna support the Philippines and not the American craftsman go with vortex……if not spend a little more and support American families by buying Leupold products …justsayin
Need a better comparison. Leupold scopes do not require you to strictly follow a schedule of expensive maintenance and doesn't drastically drop in value after it reached a certain year and usage point. Better yet, if it breaks or is damaged, regardless of the cause, just send it back and Leupold will repair or replace it for free. Cannot say the same for my 2015 Porsche Cayenne SUV.
I was sold on Vortex optics when I didn’t know which to choose and by happenstance ended up with a vortex, I went to buy a lower end Leupold as that was all I could afford at the time, it was 250 on sale, somebody bought it and they sold me a comparable vortex, it was on sale as well, I took what I could get which was the vortex copperhead 4-12. I had a cheap scope that came with my rifle and it was shooting embarrassing 8 inch groups at 100yd, I shot a sub MOA group with my cheap vortex and was sold and been a fan since haha I have since stepped up to their higher end optics as my budget allowed. I do appreciate that Leupold is built in US however
@@bigdaddy4691 yea something was clearly wrong with the internals, I suspect that the recoil was migrating the internal mechanics essentially giving me a new zero every shot, the point I was trying to make was Vortex’s cheapest scope gave me reliable performance, sub moa grouping, held zero well shot after shot, and in field performance for hunting and I really appreciated that!

Leupold all day long and twice on Sunday's. I recently tried a Vortex, was not satisfied with clarity, sent it back and bought a Leupold. Never again,.....

I’ve purchased two vortex and got rid of both of them. To me they are to heavy, have poor eye relief aNd are just not as good of quality as leupold. I have never been disappointed with a leupold. Just not a vortex fanboy.

@@luvtahandload7692 Correct and that will remain a dream. I've seen many failed Vortex scopes, unless you purchase their USA made line which will cost you a couple thousand bucks. The cheaper Vortex scopes get replaced if sent in for warranty repair. Leupold fixes and overhauls all their scopes and returns the same one if possible. I've had a Leupold made in 1974 which had something inside rattling, Leupold repaired it, did a quality check overhaul and returned the same scope within a week. I own over a dozen Leupolds and zero of other manufacturers.
I have 3 leupold's on 3 riffles that wear my dad's he passed down to me. I still shoot them today. One is on a 7mm magnum. They are still the best scopes I have. Im 41 years old and have no idea how old these scopes are. He also left me 2 pair of Leopold binoculars that, have the original gold rings. I carry a pair with me every day. You can compare them to any new binoculars my buddies have and they beat that crap out of the new ones.
My biggest complaint about Leupold scopes is the difficulty in getting the cross hairs in sharp focus......sent on back to Leupold, they did several things to the scope but did not solve the crosshair focus issue.....anyone else have this issue on focus?
Easy choice. Leupold every time. Vortex is junk. Bad failure rate on all the foreign stuff. If I am spending a Grand plus, well, I’ll take the Leupold also.

I have optics from both, as do all of my hunting buddies, and consistently the only good thing I hear about Vortex is "They have a great warranty."
That isn't going to change , as list companies are chasing as much profit as possible. I certainly wish we could get back to the days of all our small towns thriving from local industry, But sadly, I feel those days are gone. With that being said, I certainly buy American made goods as often as possible and I wish everyone would.

They are an outsourced company that relies on customer support fixing all their quality problems by replacing their scopes as fast as they can sell them because they get them cheap enough that replacing 50% of everything they sell is no real burden when you sell out-sourced, asian junk. All this talk of vortex are crap. I have a 2.5-10 vortex viper and let me tell you it’s been though the ringer and in much tougher climates than any of you Americans have seen, you don’t even need a tough scope in the US your climates are a fawking joke. Mine has never lost zero and I’ve never needed a follow up shot. Vortex makes quality gear and at $700 it’s much more affordable.
These Leopold elitist knob heads probably bench site their gun at 100 yards once a year and think their scope is the best. I have the same scope and its great for hunting.

Put it through arctic climates, summer, wet, cold and the viper has never failed me at all and I’ve never needed to adjust it once in 10 years. I’m not a vortex fan boy but I am honest and it’s been just as solid as any scope I’ve ever used.
The vx-5 does come with illuminated fire dot as well.

Leupold has made the VX5HD 3-15x44 with a firedot reticle for a while now. Apples to apples please.

8 inches is a lot to blame a modern scope on unless it was damaged.
