    Remember if you’re a new FFL: When those companies want an interview to mention the following;
    1. You drink beet juice every morning to start your day.
    2. Battlestar Galactica is your favorite tv show (2004 series)
    3. You are proficient in all types of martial arts.
    4. Express knowledge about bears.
    5. Ask what their favorite song to guitar air solo to is.
    6. Bonus, mention how you know a guy named..J-…Tim, and how he annoys you at work.
    Good luck!

    By 'personal relationship' with retailer, what you really mean is they require to spend *insert certain dollar amount usually in the thousands" worth of merchandise sitting on your shelves. We dont have Vortex where i work because they mandate a 10,000$ buy-in

    Never quite understood the US Gun Shop functions. I had the pleasure of working 5 years in A German gun shop in the 90’s. We were the Ruger and CZ importer, and had great partnerships with the Colt and S&W importer. We had everything you could think of from clothing to all hunting supplies to the competitive sport shooter $2k air pistol to black powder and reenactment, to collector surplus and reloading dies and powders. In house master gun smith, gun parts, and a range down the street. Nothing like the often nothing burger local NC shops.

    The gun store local to me for instance doesn't carry Sig. Which is fine, I have picked out a S&W M&P Shield as my first gun when I get other bills pay and can afford the $400 for our wonderful 16 hour course that I wish was half that price.

    Retailers should always try and go through manufacturers, you can sometimes get better margin. But some manufacturers aren’t equipped to go to retailers and go through wholesalers or distributers. If you do go through manufacturers, always have a distributor as a backup, cause if they are tight on inventory they will send inventory to their top distributors to keep them happy.
    I work in manufacturing and also have in wholesale and retail.
    I manage online stores.

    I had Vortex 4x32 with a folding magnifier back in the early 2000s. When Vortex wasn't the same price levels as Trijicon, AimPoint, Leupold, LPVO. My set was like $120 together. Same set is almost $500+ now. The quality is definitely there. But the costs are getting obnoxious. As everything else is here stateside.

    I love guns, but sadly I live in a country where a BB-gun pulling off more than 10Joules is illegal.
    So all I can do is play with replicas (I get mine from Denix). But it's always fun to know things, learn about trigger discipline and safety, so that one day when I get to visit the US, I can at least hold one in a store without stressing out the people working there. You guys have taught me a lot, and for that I am thankful.
    Going to Colorado in a few weeks and I'll be visiting some shooting ranges.
    Any good tips for gun selection for a first time shooter?
    All I know is that I'd like to load single rounds and not multiple rounds, because even though I'm a big strong guy, I've never felt recoil before. So I'd like to start slow.

    • @benjaminsmith3843
      @benjaminsmith3843 3 місяці тому +2

      To start go with a .22, both for handguns and rifles. You won't have to worry about recoil and you can instead focus on properly handling the gun and avoiding a flinch from the sound. Once you're comfortable you can move up.
      For handguns, try a .380 or a .38 special, you'll be able to feel the recoil without having to worry about managing it. When you get a little more confidence, move up to 9mm or .45ACP if you like pistols, .357 mag if you like revolvers.
      As for rifles, 5.56/.223 is very tame, especially from an AR. If you handle that well, you can move up to .243 or .308, and if you're getting really comfortable .30-06. Anything beyond that, see how you're handling everything and talk to range officer for suggestions based on your performance.
      Most indoor ranges don't allow shotguns, but if you're able to try them out start with a .410, then 20 gauge, and if you're really having fun with them you can try a 12. The thing to remember with shotguns is there is a wide variance within the same gauge; I have 2.5 inch bird shot shells and 3.5 inch slug shells for my 12 gauge. Same gun, firing the 2.5 barely kicks at all, but the 3.5 feels like getting hit in the shoulder with a 10 pound sledge hammer.

    • @prncrx

      get to go in and try things out, get live/in-person advice, get to support local businesses. Plus you need to ship firearms to an FFL anyway, if your all your nearby LGS' charge high fees for transfer or if their prices are better than online+shipping then might just be better to buy from them anyway.
