Regarder is to watch "something" with attention while voir is just to see "something" without attention. Same goes for Entendre - listen and Écouter - hear Entendre is passive while écouter is active same for voir and regarder .. I hope my little explanation makes you understand better . When you do something with attention you use a différent verb.
