Michael Johnson nailed it Chris Rawlinson won that race for England because he put Daniel Caines in position to strike on the anchor leg but also Michael Blackwood messed it up by going early on the top bend to try get past Mullings the Bahamian whilst Caines waited until halfway and then attacked dropping the baton was insult to injury really
I was in the stands that day. There was never a shadow of a doubt in my mind of England's victory. Daniel Caines dipping on the line can be shown clearly when you watch it in slow motion. After all, what do they have photo finish for if not for this? Elias forcing his way though England and Jamaica in the home straight was extremely dubious anyway.
Elias was an absolute machine that year. Its devastating that he couldn't reproduce that form for GB into the Olympics in 04. Caines was shitting himself!
