    Wow! I remember this even though I was only 9 at the time. Henry Olonga got a five for in the inconsequential penultimate game of the tournament in Sharjah. He had Sachin caught, ducking against a bouncer on off stump, which made the master really mad. In the finals, India were chasing around 180 runs for victory and though Sachin didn't have to take on the bowlers, he got stuck into Onlonga and by the end of his spell, it looked like Olonga could not roll his arms completely to deliver the ball. End of day, Sachin scored 120 odd. Pure magic

    How glorious the year 1998 was..!
    I was only 10 years that time
    Watched live on TV
    n tears roll down while sachin smashing boundaries..fastest 100 of his career.
    Eventually he stopped playing some shots after tennis elbow injury..like paddle sweep, pull shot for a spinner, the backfoot punch etc..
    I was so frustrated why he's not playing those shots.
    Trust me I didn't watch a single match till date after his retirement.
    (ofcourse watching old videos of Sachin's batting is better than watching today's live Cricket )
    1894 runs with 9 centuries n 7 half centuries @ avg 65
    and still it's the world record.

    I still think Olonga had the last laugh against India. His spell in the 1999 world cup game against India was very vital. I agree that Tendulkar was not playing that game, but his spell, and the subsequent loss to Zimbabwe in that game was instrumental in India eventually getting knocked out in the second round of the tournament.

    • @IWorldian
      @IWorldian 10 років тому +1

      sorry bro they cant. what are you trying to say? do you think there are no good bowlers now? change of rules and pitches made them look bad. watch more cricket... there are good bowlers better than mcG and strick. look at young pakistan bowlers look at steyn look at buwaneshwar kumar of india who can swing the bowl even on a flat pitch. dont underestimate present bowlers just shitty rules making cricket a worst game day by day

    • @singhajs
      @singhajs 10 років тому +1

      Steyn all time world class, agree! Bhuwaneshar Kumar better than McGrath and Heath Streak? Ajit Agarkar had speed and that ability of moving the ball both sides, even Debashis Mohanti or Irfan Pathan(at his prime) moved the ball hell better than Bhuwaneshar. And non of them were 10% of Glen Mcgrath, few consider best ever(not me). Saying that was over patriotic! Now look at all young Pakistan bowlers! Show me the speed of Waqar and Shoaib, show me the swing of Akram(also a speedstar)! dont say they are young, 2W were fierce from very 1st ball of their career. Which spinner in this current Pak squad is better than Saqi? who had the record of quickest 200 wickets and invented "dusra", dismissed Great Sachin in every innings of 1999 Test series. Probably you did not see someone called " White Lightning", Allan Donald, South Africa's best ever fast Bowler, not Steyn! Shaun Pullock, Big Mac, Zulu? SA had 5 world class fast bowlers in their regular 11. MD. Sami, Akib Javed, MD Akram never had decent chance in Pak team, they were all better than recent Pak bowlers. NZ had Bond, Vettori, Allott, Cairns! Who they have at their level now? Now Australia! Lee, Mcgrath, Gilespie, Warne starting. Bracken, Bichel, Williams, Tait, Jullien,Kasprowich, Clark were in the waste. Mcgill had the ability to become one of the best ever. Sorry to say, but I dont see Walsh- Ambrosh in this WI team, forget Marshal-Holding-Garner-Roberts! Malinga is good, but Vaas was class.
      Now Minnows talking, Kenya beat WI in1996 WC. they had two world class batsmen, people used to say Tikolo could play for any Test playing nation. They regularly won against big teams.
      Zimbabwe won Test series against India in 1998. Andy Flower(current England coach,once rated no1), his twin brother Grant, Murrey Gudwin, Johnson were world class batsmen. hehehehe....dont see anyone at that level.
      Bangladesh had Ashraful, Mehrab, Aftab, Alok, Bashar....Ashraful killed Lee and Mcgrath in Natwest series(youtube it,its a joy to watch). Bangladesh winning now, because others are shit at the moment.
      Only England got a decent bowling attack.
      Look I knew the name Shikhar Dhawan from the time he was Captain for India u17, in U17 Asia cup, Bangladesh 2001. He never threatened Viru or Rahul or VVS or Gambhir or Sachin or Sourav or Yubi as long as they were young or not retired. And he is a master blaster now!
      The quality dropped dramatically because of ICC and T20!

    • @IWorldian
      @IWorldian 10 років тому +2

      you know you just can't compare them with present gen players and just because mcG is a legend you are saying that. i can bet steyn is better than mcG!! am just saying cricket is turning into a batsmen game. worst rules and everything. i am just saying there are good bowlers still out there no one supporting them. whatever you said was correct but lack of support making bowlers look bad. sorry your comment is too long i didnt read everything but you got a point. just dont forget all this rules making batsmen heroes and bowlers clowns. icc should think about it. cricket is not just for entertainment they should bring those good old days and pitches where 250 was a fighting score.

  • @A-myth
    @A-myth 8 років тому +4

    +tanvi agharwal : greatness is never achieved by a one day show, its achieved by consistency , by technique and by flawless actions. That sums up Sachin Tendulkar, true there were better batsmen than him on a particular day, but if you pick this era as the time frame, you won't find a better batsman than him.
    his desire to play the game for such a long time, his technique not only gave him an early entry but allowed him to play for the longest time, where as other players came and went coz they weren't able to sustain the pressure of playing cricket.
    And stats- do I really need to say about it.
    he started new benchmarks in batting- thats more than enough..
    he has maximum runs in test and odi, scored the first double century, scored maximum number of centuries-
    these are enough to prove him the best.
    Also, for reference you could read the comments made by your fav batsmen, who themselves consider Sachin as God of cricket.
    For instance, Mathew Hayden: he once said,
    "I HAVE SEEN GOD, HE BATS AT NO.4 FOR INDIA IN TESTS".
    Newys, get well soon!:)
