I have been on a spiritual path for the last 20 years and after a long and often frustrating journey became determined to learn Kriya yoga. I quickly discovered however that finding information on the actual techniques was not easy. As an answer to my prayer I suppose, I found this channel and listened to several of your videos and immediately knew you were exactly what I was looking for. I bought your book Continuing the Lineage and The Eternal Way by Mr. Davis. You have helped me immeasurably and I just wanted you to know how truly grateful I am.
You have given hope to all those who GAVE up hope wanting to practice Kriya yoga but unable to get a teacher or initiation. Your instructions very clear precise and simple to understand. May GOD bless you SIR!
Ryan, As a fallen away 65 year old SRF-er, also somewhat cynical -- I "out-of-the-blue" did a UA-cam search for Kriya yoga last October 2018, and finding your videos and your honest demeanor has reignited my meditation practice and lifted my seriousness to a new high. I have had Roy Davis' books at my bedside table and have found your video discussions with him also very inspirational. I honor his passing by messaging you about the help that your involvement in the lineage has provided me.
My experience is very similar Patrick! I was an SRF student around 1980. I left SRF and explored different paths, eventually landing in Shin Buddhism (which I still practice). I found this very video which introduced me to Roy Eugene Davis. I loved his books and a very Buddhistic and practical approach. I wrote to him and he sent my a DVD to consider as my initiation into Kriya, although in a very real way, this UA-cam video by Ryan was my Kriya initiation and changed my life! Since Mr Davis's passing Ryan is my primary source for Kriya information and inspiration. I highly recommend Ryan's books as well.
Same here, Patrick. 69 and found Ryan several months ago. Refreshing, honest, knowledgeable, authentic teacher who inspires me to resume the practices. Also appreciated a newer more relaxed, flexible, intuitive, creative addition to the practices and lifestyle rather than a rigid by-the-book dogmatic one.
Your being disrespectful to the lineage of kriya yoga and it's gurus that lived their lives through selfless action come on man gurus are nessesary because people could waste their entire life doing the wrong thing for the wrong reason.
Thank you for this instruction on kriya yoga techniques. I just read Yogananda's autobiography and became intrigued about kriya yoga. I appreciate it when clear instructions are given and you did this very well, Ryan. I look forward to incorporating this into my life and trying to achieve a heightened awareness. The autobiography was amazing. I love how the masters and gurus (like Babaji) were appearing all over the place following their deaths. I thought only Jesus had done this.
And the fact that they can dematerialize and rematerialize at will at any number of locations through time is quite remarkable to those of us who know nothing about it.

Your Soul with Higher Beings have choosen this place in very deliberate way. Even if there are obstacles these are the divine steps for the consciousness and for cleansing the Soul.
Namaste. I am deeply grateful for your videos. They are very clear and come from a very pure source, I think many more people would practice Kriya Yoga if it was more accessible, but the teachings seem to be quite obscure, preventing one from fully embracing this path. This is unfortunate because I feel it is ideal for many westerners as it is so systematic and straightforward. I thank you for your seva, for making these sacred techniques more accessible to the sincere seeker.
Thank you! Seeing those words visually, made me understand what I miss if I don't take this practice seriously! As have been said, all tools, you do the work as Creator your own unique way🙏🏻💯💜
You are a great Guru. You are clearly explaining the techniques for a beginner. I am sure a lot of practice is required to even get to basic breathing and visualization. I feel a guru like you would be necessary to get the process correct. If we get something wrong, it becomes a regular part of our practice. Thank you for sharing this video.🙏🙏🙏
Excellent. Yes. Keep it simple. I do plan on doing some extended meditation sequences in a few weeks. One will be a short 30 minute sequence using the above mentioned techniques. The other will be longer guided meditation for those interested in going deeper into the practice.
For about the last 10 months I have been using the HeadSpace guided meditation app. It has helped me calm & quiet my mind - find peace and happiness. But I am beginning to out grow that app - as I’ve grown, the spoken guidance is becoming a distraction rather than the necessary aid it was in the beginning. Now I play quiet meditation back ground music - or nothing - but use the Insight Timer app to time/end my meditation. I greatly enjoyed this helpful video - I feel that I’ve gotten to a place where I can begin learning & practicing Kriya Yoga Meditation. Thank you Ryan 🙏
Thanks very much for sharing these "private techniques" from SRF. I did their at home lessons but did not get initiation into kriya yoga because they wanted a contract to only follow their methods where I prefer to take nuggets from multiple sources. Great and simple explanation.

Namaskaram 🙏🏽thank you for offering these techniques. I am a certified yoga instructor and i would like to add that the root, navel, and throat locks are Bandhas. The throat is more of a pulling back and tucking the chin slightly as if you’re holding a marble between the chin and throat. Also the breathing that you speak of is ujjayi breathing through the nostrils
Yes, but you will not find it from among the followers of SRF or disciples of Yoganandaji. You need to search out the householder disciples of Lahiri Mahasaya in India, in particular the few who are authorised to teach it.
This stuff is very instinctual. Like I just now got interested in kriya and it's breathing so this is the first video I'm watching. I've been doing these techniques as a kid, just using energy... the breathing and constricting throat is used when I'm amassing energy. I call it Black Sun Breathing... like this is cool. I wonder how many of the techniques I was taught while meditating as a kid by my inner selves is actually forms of yoga
I just realized I was using the same breathing technique as a teenager to draw in energy from the Earth, then I'd hold it and release it suddenly out my head while visualizing broken/flickering streetlights turning on...and it worked. I'm sure the average person would think I'm nuts but I did it hundreds, if not thousands of times and I know what I experienced. I didn't have any structured way of working with energy so I did what somehow felt natural.
Thank-you Thank-you This is really helpful as I just got initiated to kriya last weekend and I am feeling a bit confused about the sequence.. there was a lot to take in over the weekend and I am fearful that I might give up, I do not want to do that, I want to make this a part of my life as it is such a beautiful meditation practice
Ryan Kurzcak thank you so much. I loved your video and the way you have explained all the points. Thank you much. I pray that I am sincere in everything I do.
I decided to learn what kriya yoga is about and watched Corey’s video and KRS mentioning about it too. I got curious when I saw your video popped up. It is amazing process and looks like my journey started. Thank you very much for the video, this is helpful.
Thanks for the video, I appreciate the detail you go into describing the practices, as that is something that has always hampered me following less in-depth descriptions, wondering whether I am doing them exactly right, or whether there is something I am missing.
I tend to get headaches after doing these exercises daily for a while, which I feel very sad about because other than that I love the soothing feeling in my spine. At the moment how I solve this problem is by attaching an inner chi-gong practice afterwards ( which is breathing up my back through my spine and exhaling down my front body and collecting my chi in my abdomen afterwards) which currently the only solution that elevates the headaches for me. I just wonder if anybody else experiences headaches after spinal breathing Kriya yoga and if there are some other specific Kriya Yoga explanations or/and solutions for this issue. Lots of love. keep up the good work Ryan
Thank you Ryan, I have just red Autobiografia di uno Yogi for the first time, thinking why I didn't read before... I will try to walk into this path. I have found an Italian not too far from where I live that has known and initiated by Rev Roy Davis. By the way I am 83 but perhaps it's not too late!🤗😉
I agree with Ryan that meditating with an 'organization' is not necessary. I did my initial Kriya training and initiation with Self Realization Fellowship, but there are many paths to Kriya. I don't have a problem with SRF, but after years of meditating alone, I attempted to join a local SRF group and meditate with them once per week. I really did not enjoy the experience - I would rather be a lone Yogi. Also, there are a bewildering array of Kriya techniques out there if you search YT videos. Take 2-3 and stick with them. It becomes way too confusing (at least for me) to do techniques that don't seem to jive with me. I do the basic Hang Sau and Kriya 1 - Kriya 1 being the basic technique that Ryan demos here in the video - inhale (Ha - cool air) to the 6th Chakra, then exhale ('eee' - warm air down to the base chakra). That's it. I don't need to make it more complicated than that - 20 - 30 min 2X per day -sometimes more if I have the time. The practice that works is the one that you do consistently.
This is very random, but time/space isn't really linear anyway. I have been breathing kriya almost 30 years, and am a direct initiate into a kriya lineage that essentially makes me Ryan's spiritual cousin ( one of Yogananadaji's lone wolf students is my paramguru). I have not even bothered to google the world of Kriya outside of my own life until last week, and have been pleasantly surprised by how much the digital world has changed things. Albeit perhaps adding layers of confusion. But I am here to attest that what you describe ( and Ryan is teaching here) is what I was taught; these are the basics. Lovely, and true. I will add that I do use the mantra that can accompany kriya proper, and also, over the years I have taken to breathing kriya with my mouth closed. I was given the green light by the lineage to do so about six years ago. I have read that Yogananada was originally taught to breathe kriya with a closed mouth, but thought westerners would benefit from an open mouth technique as it reinforces the susumanic tube or tunnel ( ida) on a gross level, but who knows? Maybe some of his western sudents were unable to nostril breathe all the time? I have found this to be rather arbitrary, and have done both open and closed mouth inhalations depending on the moment at hand. Also arbitrary in my experience is the use of the mantra vs. aaa-eeee. Many blessings from one lone- wolf kriyaban to another.
I'm initiated into Surat Shabd yoga. I don't use breath. I use mantra for focus on third eye. And when I'm focused then breath almost stop. I see wast ocean of light. It's warm, like a sun. It wash all my emotional and mental garbage. It's so healing. Also my psychical body sometimes shakes the tension store within. But I don't practise sound meditation. It blows me away. I hear bells, rivers...I realy feel my consciousness is cleaned but after meditation I'm almost like dead. No need to talk or do anything. I become to introverted and that's scary...
@Kriya Yoga Online with Ryan Kurczak can you understand me if I say that after those deep states I vant to leave this world. The silence and peace is so deep and well orchestrated that I feel burden in this material life. Is this normal? We all hear about happiness of yogis and so on. But in true the more I dive deep into meditation state the more sad I look to the outer world and worldly people. It's confusing. First I was playing with meditation..but afte few years 3, 4, 5 years...than at once I desolve into the inner space. Sow the light...dissaper... I vant to return home man...
A devotee asked Paramahansa Yogananda about one who had been in SRF and who had left the church to set up his own organization, and was giving Kriya. He asked Gurudeva, "Is the Kriya the same?" and Master replied, "No. The chain has been broken."
he also, authorized a few students to teach Kriya Yoga who were not affiliated with an organization... later... certain organizations don't like to admit that... very sad.

At 8:05 when pulling the current up, do you need to visualize each chakra (point) individually as the sensation rises up, or do you simply visualize the spine (channel) as a whole?
Ryan I am so grateful for these videos. Can I ask 2 questions please? Firstly, on the exhales, is it through nose or mouth. Secondly I have been practising kundalini meditation and yoga for a year and a half now daily 4-6am. But am keen to pick up Kriya yoga Would you still advise starting with alternate nostril for 6 months or do you think going straight in with this method would be ok? Not looking to rush and want to do things properly. Just interested in your opinion. Many thanks again. Sam.
Ryan - Just one question - I have watched Kriya techniques where people breath through the nose vice breathing through the mouth. The original technique that I learned from SRF has people breathing through the mouth - both the in-breath and out-breath. The in-breath is an almost a HA sound feeling the cool air moving through the back of the throat. The exhale is an 'EEE' sound with the exhalation of warmer air - again through the mouth. It's been a while since I have read the SRF lessons on this (I don't have the original lessons anymore). I just wanted to confirm what I remember. I prefer the mouth breathing vice the nose breathing. Comments? Suggestions?
Really…. Thousands of seekers are infinitely grateful to Ryan. That includes me and several other people whom I know personally! Thank you, brother Ryan! 🙏💝🙏
Great advice and details. I can't believe all this amazing stuff existed all this time and I never knew about it lol But happy to be here, nonetheless:-)
Yep the closed mouth technique is basically ujayii pranayama as taught in the Krishmanacharya hatha lineages ( Ashtanga & Iyengar & Vini hatha practices etc). I also use the closed mouth, with throat constriction. Just cool to see so many others connecting with the light. Om
hi Ryan when bringing the current up through the chakras during Kriya pranayama and dhoti mudra, are you also at the same time lightly constricting the root chakra as with the life force arousal technique?
Thank you SO much. 😊 In your video you refer to your previous video where you teach sushumna breathing. Can you please tell me what that previous video is? I would love to learn more about sushmna breathing. Thank you so much! 👏🏻
Hello. Thank you for sharing this technique. I have a question about kryia pranayama- when you breath in through your mouth, do you also breath out from the mouth? Do you use root lock during kryia pranayama and jyoti mudra?

I have read that Yogananada was originally taught to breathe kriya with a closed mouth, but thought westerners would benefit from an open mouth technique as it reinforces the susumanic tube or tunnel ( ida) on a gross level, but who knows? Maybe some of his western sudents were unable to nostril breathe all the time? I have found this to be rather arbitrary, and have done both open and closed mouth inhalations depending on the moment at hand. Also arbitrary in my experience is the use of the mantra vs. aaa-eeee. Many blessings from one lone- wolf kriyaban to another.
great video - thank you a lot !!!
You are welcome!
Thank you very much. You were very clear in explanation. 🙏🙏🙏

I like this...! Great teacher!
!
Thank you this is amazing.
You're very welcome!
I become to introverted and that's scary...
ok
@Kriya Yoga Online with Ryan Kurczak can you understand me if I say that after those deep states I vant to leave this world. The silence and peace is so deep and well orchestrated that I feel burden in this material life. Is this normal?
We all hear about happiness of yogis and so on. But in true the more I dive deep into meditation state the more sad I look to the outer world and worldly people.
It's confusing. First I was playing with meditation..but afte few years 3, 4, 5 years...than at once I desolve into the inner space. Sow the light...dissaper... I vant to return home man...
Pranam guruji
A devotee asked Paramahansa Yogananda about one who had been in SRF and who
had left the church to set up his own organization, and was giving Kriya. He asked Gurudeva,
"Is the Kriya the same?" and Master replied, "No. The chain has been broken."
he also, authorized a few students to teach Kriya Yoga who were not affiliated with an organization... later... certain organizations don't like to admit that... very sad.

I have been able to please God, and I have been able to fulfill the pledge that I gave to my guru. Sri Yukteswar, to build this work of YSS/SRF to spread the message of Kriya Yoga." - Paramahansa Yogananda, in The Divine Romance.
very informative for those who know nothing of this like me., Thank you
very misleading
I'm glad.

Wonderful ! Thank you for sharing!!
Thank you too!
At 8:05 when pulling the current up, do you need to visualize each chakra (point) individually as the sensation rises up, or do you simply visualize the spine (channel) as a whole?
I think every chakra
use what works best
Ryan I am so grateful for these videos. Can I ask 2 questions please?
Firstly, on the exhales, is it through nose or mouth.
Secondly I have been practising kundalini meditation and yoga for a year and a half now daily 4-6am. But am keen to pick up Kriya yoga Would you still advise starting with alternate nostril for 6 months or do you think going straight in with this method would be ok? Not looking to rush and want to do things properly. Just interested in your opinion. Many thanks again. Sam.
The first year or so, mouth. Start with alternate nostril. I still do it 20 years later.
Ryan Kurczak thank you for your reply. Appreciate it.
I do it as described in this video
Very nice video. Thank you.
Thank you too
He is not supposed to be teaching these techniques to everyone youtube. There's in an "Initiation" process.
I agree.!!!
In these modern times, everything shall be exposed and henceforth available to all.

Happy new year!
I am so thankful to you

thank you Ryan! Blessings!

Om Shanti....

Interesting. I was taught with mouth closed and ujayi/mild throat constriction to make dragging ah sound with in breath and ehhhh sound on exhale.
👍 you can do it that way too.
🙏@@KriyaYogaOnline
Yep the closed mouth technique is basically ujayii pranayama as taught in the Krishmanacharya hatha lineages ( Ashtanga & Iyengar & Vini hatha practices etc). I also use the closed mouth, with throat constriction. Just cool to see so many others connecting with the light. Om
Thank you very much 🙏🏽💕🕉
Any time!
I love you. Thank you.

Thank you ! Please explain pulling up the current
Watch the video.
Thank you thank you thank you 🙏🙏🙏🌸🧡
You are so welcome
Can you remake this video showing these techniques while doing them
I don't look like anything in particular, other than a person sitting quietly, so it would not be different.
hi Ryan
when bringing the current up through the chakras during Kriya pranayama and dhoti mudra, are you also at the same time lightly constricting the root chakra as with the life force arousal technique?
That will be fine. Gently.
@@KriyaYogaOnline 🙏
Thank you so much !!!!!!

Shushumna: central energy conduit or channel along the spinal column.
Yes.
Thank you Ryan for the wonderful video. Is there any way this can be practiced by a paraplegic person?
If you can breathe and visualize the process, that is enough
@@KriyaYogaOnline Thank you so much for your reply Ryan, I do really appreciate you for sharing your knowledge and wisdom...God bless!
Thank you SO much. 😊
In your video you refer to your previous video where you teach sushumna breathing. Can you please tell me what that previous video is? I would love to learn more about sushmna breathing. Thank you so much! 👏🏻

Hello. Thank you for sharing this technique. I have a question about kryia pranayama- when you breath in through your mouth, do you also breath out from the mouth? Do you use root lock during kryia pranayama and jyoti mudra?
follow as described in this video
