During the day, the sunlight falls directly on the belly and radiates heat and becomes unbearable at times, to mitigate this i use to place a towel over the chest covering the stomach below the seat belt.
You are right, TN they have love for automobiles, they do crazy modifications on bikes and cars including tuning.
Hope you guys tried the biryanis of TN, the region specific biryani's are a must try (Dindigul, Ambur, Arcot, Vaniyambadi, Chennai..) Madurai is also a food heaven, Bun parotta with salna shouldn't be missed.
The branded outlets of Saravana Bhavan and Adayar Ananda Bhavan(A2B) is also a must try for authentic south Indian Veg.

Yes, it was hot, I can just imagine how will summers be, nice tip though; many bikers actually wear wet T shirts in long rides.
As we were short on time, we tried Kumar mess (chain from Chennai) which was in a walking distance. Not sure on the type of biryani served but that was really great. Previously I have tried Dindigul and Arcot biryani during my Vellore and pondicherry trip !
