Thank you, Mr. Cabral, for another excellent video. I am not a ‘natural’ trainer which is why your videos are so helpful. You give me the confidence I need to impose structure. And it’s amazing how imposing structure is like magic! My dogs really respond to structure. I wish I watched your videos before I had kids. Structure structure structure intermixed with fun and love.
    Thank you.

    Great topic!
I am lucky that all my spaniels are very fun loving animals for the most part. I have brought all my dogs in at least a year apart and after good foundational training has happened. I also am a firm believer in managing the dogs.
Also thank you for the reminders on showing favorites! I have been guilty of giving the new puppy too much attention and you provided a good reminder that I need to check myself.

I like watching your videos, they are entertaining.
I had between 24 to 52 Alaskan Husky Sled dogs at any one time between 1984 and 2005. Training them was an amazing experience. I had mentors that had been doing it for many years and one fella, that I acquired my best dogs from, he ran dogs with George Attla and brought back pups from the Inuit Indians. He gave me a few pups from those lines and they were fast and smart. My best lead dogs. It was amazing fun and my dogs were my family. Thats why I was only out front a couple times because I could never get rid of the old runners. I always kept them to the very end. That is the downfall of a racing kennel. But i ran for fun not fame.
Train them well but love ❤ them like family.

Thank you, Robert! I introduced a puppy to my home with a current dominant and dog-aggressive older dog. Side-by-side crating, feeding and complete oversight on interaction was imperative for a successful and simbiotic relationship.

    Great informative video,
I have a 2-year-old GSD dog and 12 year Westie X Norfolk female, yes it's an odd mix of dogs living together but it works.
The GSD was 12mths old when we first got him so was still a bit on the hyper side plus he had not had the best of starts lack of training and socialization, but 12mths on he's come on in leaps and bounds he's very obedient.
I did find the laid back nature of the older dog helped calm him right down.
Now they eat sleep and do pretty much most things together she wasn't sure about him at first but with the structure in place, he soon found his order in the pack, in fact as he's getting older the calmer he is becoming out of the 2 dogs.
He's happy just to chill out, as with all dogs we do still get the odd disagreement between them but it's always short-lived and nothing major.

I love watching your video. I have multiple rescue dogs big and little. I need to look for resources everywhere 58 year old flight attendant and I just have a huge heart so I have too many dogs. I have a little help with bringing these dogs to my house. Two girls that left for college and now coming back with their own dogs so we have a total of six dogs and a couple really big ones. I need to figure out how we’re living under one roof.

One other consideration before getting a second dog is: can you afford that second dog? You need to be honest with yourself. Dogs are expensive, especially if you are buying high quality food and/or providing regular vet care. It adds up along with beds, toys, crates, etc.

Right on the mark, here! First ever dog injury I had to pay to treat was because of having 2 dogs and their wild play caused the younger to dislocate a bone in the "wrist". Quick $500 flushed on something preventable

Thank you very much for this pod cast. My Jack Russell. Mix named Cookie is a year old this month. She really wants a play mate. The 5 dog bark patrol next door won't play with her. All girls one male like you said they are a pack with one leader who hates my pup.
Thanks to you I know what to look for at the ASPCA a few towns over. We have no local rescue. God Bless you and Janet for all the work you do. Happy Holidays. Much love from Texas

Great topic and I have seen one channel with 9 dogs and it is a mess. Whole lot of them charge the fence as golf carts go buy.

??Love your videos Robert been following you for a couple years now! Could you give an example of a typical day in terms of structure for the dog?

Hey Thank you so much for all the valuable advice! I have a question about another unique situation... 1 year ago my family and I rescued a 3 month old male german shepherd. The dog has spent those first 3 months of his life in a room, so did not receive any socialization other than with his mother. Once we got him and brought him home, we introduced him to our existing two female dogs (sri lankan mix breeds) And everybody got along perfectly. He is 11 months old now and we recently enrolled him in a 3 week socialization program for which he was away from home. While he was away from home, we rescued a female german shepherd puppy who is 5 months old. Very sweet temperament and gets along with the other two girls well. HOWEVER, now that our male german shepherd is home again, he has established that he just does not like her. He has even attacked her a few times , as we think he can sense that she is insecure around him. In a situation like this, who should be crated? And who should be given more freedom? Its a bit of a confusing situation as the male german shepherd was here first...but not to her, as he was away from home when she arrived..

my grandmother breeds Pomeranians, and honestly, she wants all the benefits and not put in the work, yes she has a dog run, uses the garage as their room and feeds them well, as well as loves on them. what she doesn't do, is take them for walks potty train them, quarantine new additions. these dogs have a heirarchy and some are territorial, pees and shits in THEIR OWN BED. she doesn't bathe them regularly, yes ahe brushes them on occasion but the fact theres no strcuture other than going in the pen or garage for day and night time, some can't go in the pen one) she has too manjuy and worries about code enforcement. that's understandable, but is it fair to have 6, 7 small dogs in a 3 bedroom house wuth a good backyard with grass? thankfuylly theyre aren't aggressive to eachother.. secondly, some dogs bark to get what they want she'll pick them right up and on her lap, if she ignores it they get louder and bark more. it is an absolute mad house they storm the door when someone comes to the door. the storm bedroom and garage doors where during times theyre not allowed in a certain room. my grandpa is so hard headed and not of intellect emotional and per psychology behavior, thinksw it's mean to set iup a baby gate for those door ways. they will dart full speed for a closing heavy door to make that crack an entrance... sometimes dogs will bite if you try to do something to it that it doesn't want to do, because she never does something they don't want to do, she thinks she's being loving, dogs don't understand complex emotions like that. the thing is she says these are inside dogs, worried they'll get eaten by a hawk if left out back all day, lest they have a potty break that's 30 mins long. they piss and shit in the house (on potty pads) because she's too damn lazy to open a door. its disgusting and im cleaning this plave like a psycho becasue theres pee from who knows how long ago. I'm trying to get a routine and system giong but how do i potty train if i can't crate them at night? they think thats cruel...also with marking their own spot for territory theres no telling heer to get rid of them because she never would. honestly what she has to put in to get the final puppy product is not worth it, she spends so much and doesn' t get the return. I can't instill any new positive behaviours because she laughs and thinks their bad behavior is funny. sh'es so frustrating we fight over it constantly. shes 70p but pretty spry still. although shes tired a lot i asked her how much llomnger can you do this? she thinks 5 more years...

?? Ok. So Im looking for just the right personality for my second dog. She does get competitive and has some issues with certain personality dogs. But I ran across another blip. She is low energy and sometimes I have to amp up the excitement level to get her to work. So now I need to search for a dog that will not lose its mind and get sloppy obedience when that is happening. How to figure that out?
