- I wasn't able to abrade all the parts I wanted to remove the anodization from so I picked up some drain cleaner to handle the task.

That was great, learned something today
You must watch this and rinse it off as soon as the color comes off. Don't forget to take a nap and leave aluminum parts in anything caustic. It has a chemical reaction to the aluminum and it turns it into a powdery dust. If you ever seen a piston come out of a washing machine for cast iron engine blocks, it uses caustic. That's what your parts will look like, the brake handle you did for the bike will break. It's fine and you won't have any damage if you watch what you're doing.
Nice work! Did you end up coating the parts with anything to protect the raw aluminum?
Thanks! Just left them raw, aluminum oxidizes naturally when exposed to oxygen and they look the same today as when I tore the anodization off.
Any idea if that would work on anodized stainless steel? I'm trying to remove colored anodizing on a stainless steel razor handle. I tried the oven cleaner method everyone touts (and it's always used on aluminum) but it didn't faze it.
After further research, I may be dealing with titanium nitride PVD coated stainless steel, not anodizing. Seems this finish is extremely tough and would explain why the oven cleaner method did not work.
Damn that's some hard coating, I haven't touched it but it's been recommended to me for applications where I don't want to ever recoat something.
