Riffault Superfini Clarinet Mouthpiece before & after refacing

- I bought a Riffault Superfini mpc, but the facing was awfully asymmetrical. It turned out to be a very nice player after I put a 34-24-14-6 / 1.04 facing on it.

Do you put a flat table or a concave?) what is your opinion on it? Great work btw! it seems like it’s very easy to play!
Hey, thanks for your kind comment :) I personally prefer flat tables because I feel the reed performs better if it's perfectly aligned to the mouthpiece. However as long as the reed seals well and the applied concavity doesn't reach the window, a slight concavity can provide the option of adding a few hundredths of millimeters to the tip opening by tightening the ligature more. I don't like to apply much ligature pressure, so that's not my cup of tea. Some say as the reed swallows the moist, a slight concavity can actually give room for that, and that provides a better playing platform. I never experienced this, but I do believe that concave tables can wear out more quickly and they require refacing more often (this doesn't really apply for crystals though).

Thanks! I've been working on hard rubber and plastic mouthpieces so far. I'm looking forward to work on crystals! I found that the material has very little effect on the basic process.The same equipment and technique works just fine for all mouthpiece materials. The only thing you have to consider is the sandpaper selection.
