Created as a companion video to my series of CARTOON EVOLUTION videos (specifically 'Evolution of GARFIELD’), I take a look at the vocal evolution of Garfield the cat as I compare the voices of all of his official voice actors over time.

Frank Welker has been the closest we've had to Lorenzo Music.
I like when movie animated companies keep the voice traditional. But sometimes when they don't it ticks me off I don't know why they do that especially for well known companies like cartoon network for example they take a character and it doesn't sound nothing like it. I understand if a voice actor dies or he gets older and the voice changes but you have no excuse and changing how they sound. Look at how many voice actors that are well known keep things accurate like jim cummings he's keeping it original he's not goofy off and playing around he's serious and actually doing a good job at voice actors but voice actors don't do that I get sick just thinking about it.

Although I'd say Bill Murray comes very close too. Just wish he was better directed.
My favourite one is Lorenzo Music.

2:44-2:58: I really thought to point out on garfield in paradise: his mouth moves when he talks, but this is of course from the dream sequence. It is one of (if not the only one) that he actually speaks instead of a monologue.

I saw it last evening and thought it was awesome.
I unfortunately haven’t had a chance to see it yet. Not attending any screenings at the moment given that we have a baby on the way in a few weeks and there’s been a large Covid surge in Melbourne. Better to be safe than sorry. Looking forward to seeing it!

Lorenzo Music, Frank Welker and Bill Murray are the best for the character. They got the lazy Garfield voice.
Worst is "Chris Pratt". It's not that Chris is not good but it did not match with the classic voice of Garfield. Too different. Makes the Garfield character different.
Garfield is one of those characters where one voice actor did the job so well, everyone else sounds like an impression.

I like how most of them are just doing a Lorenzo Music impression. That's how perfect he was for this role. No offense to Chris Pratt but his wasn't working for me. He's just kind of playing himself and it doesn't fit for Garfield. At least deliver the lines in a slow, bored-sounding voice, Chris!

Lorenzo Music's voice of Garfield in the 80s and 90s is just amazing! Garfield is definitely my all-time favorite cartoon cat, along with Sylvester from Looney Tunes, Top Cat, Tom from Tom and Jerry, Felix the Cat, Cat from CatDog, and many other fictional cats that I adore.
Lorenzo is the best voice actor!
Here's my ranking from best to not so best!
1. Lorenzo Music (duh)
2. Frank Welker (The best replacement for Lorenzo Music you could ask for. It sounds exactly like him)
3. Bill Murray (if Garfield had to be voiced be an A-list star, Bill Murray's definitely the best they could've picked)
4. Scott Beach (surprised how much I actually like Garfield's very first voice)
I like 1-4, I don't care for 5-7.
5. Chris Pratt (Not awful, but just kinda boring. Too normal)
6. Tom Smothers (Not sure what's going on here. Was Music just not available?)
7. John Barnard (The only real stinker on this list. It'd have been better if he tried doing his own thing, but instead it's just a really lousy Music impression)
I thought the exact same thing too, if they were to do a Garfield show based on the 70’s version with the realistic fat cat design, a Scott Beach soundalike would be awesome.
Lorenzo Music easily takes the cake here (or should I say lasagna; or both, whatever works). His performance just delivers the right amount of emotion all while making Garfield still sound relaxed, lazy and deadpan. Frank Welker comes in at a close second for mimicking Music's performance, which probably helps that they both worked together on "The Real Ghostbusters." Bill Murray also did a solid job and Chris Pratt's performance sounds okay, though he probably could've made the voice sound a little deeper and more tired.
Frank Welker is a legend of voicing Garfield, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit and Scooby Doo and Curious George too
I think Frank welker still voices Garfield today maybe only in video games like Nickelodeon brawl/racing.
He is the current voice of Garfield

Lorenzo Music was the best voice for Garfield I do agree that Frank is the best one since Music's passing.
Far be it for me to be the "this is the end all be all" guy when it comes to voice actors. Actors pass on, actors retire and it's no one's fault if characters get recast and sound different. Garfield, however, WAS Lorenzo Music. I give all the credit in the world to everyone else that played him, Frank especially. He did a Garfield impression all the way back in the first episode of Garfield and Friends (the Hawaiian Cat Flu episode, coming out of a celebrity impersonating parrot). But so much of Garfield evolved around the casting of Music, especially the animated specials and original TV series. I like Frank's take, Bill Murray seemed like a perfect fit, but how the movie portrayed him was off, and Chris Pratt did a good enough job, despite the odd casting choice (he was better and more fitting as Mario). If there's anyone who I'd like to see take on the role, it's Bobby Moynihan (sp?). His role as Louie in Ducktales '17 proved he'd be a perfect match (especially the dream episode where he technically WAS Garfield for a few minutes).
Anyway, fun fact. While the Fabulous Funnies had someone else cast as Garfield, Thom Huge was Jon Arbuckle in those skits. Which is all the more interesting as someone else played him in the first proper special.

I remember Lorenzo Music doing his own singing as Garfield a couple of times like in the Halloween special. Still though, Lou Rawls was good on the occasions that he sung for Lorenzo.

It's incredible that Garfield had a good number of voice actors over the years. My favorite voice actors of Garfield are as follows.
1: Lorenzo Music and Frank Welker.
2: Bill Murray.
3: Chris Pratt.
4: Scott Beach.
Those are the voice actors for Garfield that I'm familiar with, including Music and Welker. They really bring some life to the lazy, Monday hating, lasagna loving tabby cat.
I will love if Frank welker will have voice Garfield in this New movie and I love your videos so much keep up the good work man

I forgot how close Frank Welker and Lorenzo Music's voices for Garfield are so close. I lean a little more towards Lorenzo.

Given the film’s performance at the box office, I very much doubt it will get a sequel. Especially as Nickelodeon now owns the rights to the character - Sony can’t make another one.

Honesty Lorenzo Music will always be Garfield but not going to lie Chris Pratt is good too my only complaint with Pratt is he doesn’t sound deep enough and is lacking in terms of tiredness overall i personally think Chris did a good job capturing Garfield’s sarcastic side

We loved to see an individual evolution on each Garfield character. Odie, Liz and Nermal has been portrayed by less than 5 voice actors, so it won't turn out be to great comparison video.

Lorenzo Music WILL ALWAYS be the 1 & only Garfield to me. To me, Garfield died alongside him in 2001 cause nothing's... really been good TV/movie-wise since he's been gone. I still enjoy the comics though. I guess my ranking is this:
