Thank you for bringing a smile to my face at such a difficult time. I will miss him so much. I cannot imagine how much you will. Rest in Paradise, Gordon. Thanks, Burton. Your voice is a powerhouse that has gotten me through plenty of moments as well.
Burton was quite good at storytelling as well. Went to a solo concert of his once and was pleasantly surprised to find he gave history between songs. It would've been half the show if he did twice as many songs and none of the chat. He and Randy Bachman are similar in that way, they love to let everyone know the backstory of all the tunes.
Slow down haters. Tap the brakes. Gord has seen this video as it was taped to air as BC was unable to attend the Juno Awards honoring GL. They are friends. It is funny. PEACE
I remember seeing this when I was 16 in 1984 on an over the air pay station called preview. I remember thinking Burton was genius with his impressions. Can we get a copy of the whole show somewhere? It was awesome, and I just spend my time just telling people who don't have a clue how awesome it was.
My dad was a Lightfoot look-alike back in the day when Gordon had a perm (I see my dad whenever I look at the Sundown album cover), and he could nail a spot on vocal impression of Gordie as well. He was born in Michigan but lived most of his adult life in Toronto where people would occasionally mistake him for Gordon and ask for an autograph.
When I saw the name Burton Cummings, I asked myself, "Ain't that the Guess Who singer?" So I looked it up. Yep, another great voice in the world of yesteryear. I loved Gordon Lightfoot, and I loved The Guess Who. So this oughta be good. (I posted before I watched) 🤩
Actually, I believe I've seen Gordon Lightfoot playing piano on one song in particular for his children. The song was "Fine As Fine Can Be". Always been a Lightfoot fan since 1966. I'm also a Guess Who/BTO/Randy Bachman/ Burton Cummings fan. I believe it was Randy who had said it was after listening to Lightfoot, combined with the fact that he was such a prolific songwriter, that convinced him and Burton to start writing their own material. And so they did!
They wrote 3 or 4 songs that defined a whole freakin' generation ? Really ??..... there are few bands that have done that, like The Beatles. Please don't insult my intelligence and musical knowledge by putting Burton Cummings anywhere near them. Gordon Lightfoot is one of Bob Dylan's favourite singer/songwriters. 'nuff said.
@@canadianroot i am tired of this thing of some unknown rating system! Undoubtedly invented by one of us dang fools here in America! I wish I had been born in Canada-where the really cool performers are! ❤️ Love you all!!!💕💕
He does a great impersonation! Let's face it..anyone who has a distinctive sound (like Gordon) is gonna get satired now and then. I'm sure it's all in good fun, and Burton has likely had his share of it too! They are both great talents and CANADIAN to boot! Wonderful!

Burton Cummings has always been one of my favorite pop-rock vocalists, but I never knew he did impressions: I thought I did a mean Gordon Lightfoot imitation until I saw/heard this. Hilarious.
This video not only reflects Bernie's talent as a musician, but his beautiful sense of humor, his need to laugh, and ability to inspire laughter! What a gifted human being!
I grew up with Burton and he is definitely one of the very best and still is. What a voice! And what a pianist! No one to compare with him. This is one of his most hilarious impressions.
Who knew Burton Cummings was funny? This made me laugh so hard I cried. What a whopping dose of "Canadian Content." Burton Cummings and Gordon Lightfoot in one hilarious performance. Absolutely hilarious--Burton's impression is so spot on.

This is SOPHISTICATED, GENTLE SATIRE. He's a fan, and a talented mimic. If Gord weren't a legend completely his own, there would be nothing to imitate. I'll bet he LOVED this AND the genius SCTV homage Rick Moranis did.
The concert I watched so many years ago was incredible. In the closing song, Burton took over each musicians role and piece of the song, played their instruments and sang their part. “Fans went wild,” doesn’t describe it. Much love and respect to Burton and The Guess Who.

Should keep it in the Canadian family; Burton singing a Bruce Cockburn song as Gordon Lightfoot; or a Klaatu song maybe.
