I have drive one of those just little under 20 years ago. That Tatra chassis those systems are built on is amazing. The huge 19-liter V-12 sounds awesome and has the feel of almost unlimited power, and the ability to go almost anywhere off-road with that 8-wheel drive is incredible. And on a highway they're no slouch either. Despite us being limited by law to 80(-ish) km/h, they could easily do 100 if you "stretched their legs" a bit.
@@jasonsmith8567It would be sad if smaller caliber MLRS capabilities are given away and not replaced by anything comparable. Finland bought more M270 vehicles and more missiles for the old ones recently but those are better for a different purpose than these.
Aiming and firing are constrained by antique systems but "scooting" after shooting need not be and the time saved will save crews and launchers in the next war. Requiring a dismounted crewman to rotate and stow the launcher prior to "scooting" after "shooting" is dangerous in the 2023 era of rapid counter-battery fire as seen in Ukraine. The leisure of a peacetime exercise will not be present in combat! I submit the following relatively simple and economical fix to our Finnish friends and others. I suggest those not experienced mechanics/technicians mention the idea to someone who matters for every Finnish launcher evading Russian incoming can stay in the fight and return the favor: Add duplicate turntable rotation and elevation controls to the cab on the passenger side or use a pendant style wired control which need not interfere with existing ground-operated controls. That can later be exploited when better sighting systems come available permitting in-cab operation like modern launchers. No dismount to rotate then stow the launcher permits immediate drive-off after firing the weapon as the operator can rotate and lower the launcher while the driver maneuvers away from launch position. While there may be time to prepare to shoot firing any variety of "Grad-style" launcher puts a rather large bullseye on the launch site.

Much shorter range. Unguided rockets. Much more rockets. WAY cheaper rockets. No missiles. Area weapon. They have their place, since you can throw a lot of cheap shit on the enemy. A shotgun compared to a .50 cal sniper rifle.
This is not a rip off ... This is simply a GRAD made under license in Czechoslovakia and mounted on a TATRA chassis. Czechoslovakia exported this system in various versions to several countries, including the GDR.

I read somewhere that the RM-70 cabins have a layer of armor wrapped around the cab, did the unit your drove have that?
Tatra truck does not need a way, it will make it's own 💪💪💪
Czech republic Yeah🇨🇿🇨🇿
Чех республик шляпа 😂
Interesting aspect is tha finish army own these czech-made rocket launchers because czech army dont have even a single.
They were officially decommissioned in 2010 but are still in the reserves
They just donated some to Ukraine so I'd say they still had some

Truck Tatra!!👍👍👍👍
They don't use a vampire reloading system.
When it comes to training, they could split six missiles in half (3 + 3).
What is a truck platform? Looks a bit like a TATRA.
Yes it is, Tatra 815 👌
@@MetFlay Thanks mate.
Hyvä jätkät!
Antaa palaa jos todella tilanne vaatii
Is this that what they call vampir?
Yes, it is
Mitä nämä nyt on? Riitta Uosukaisen urut?
What a disappointed there not fire those rockets
Tuliasemasta laukaisun jälkeen aivan liian hidasta.
Semmai "a salve".
Miksi varoupseeri tarkistaa jotain pakasta?

RM - 70 Vampire + trucks Tatra made in Czech republik 👍👍👍

Kópia raketometu Grad.
It is grad
Kertokaas mulle miksi noissa tuubeissa ei ole kaikissa rakettia? Aina on iso osa tyhjänä. Kai noi oikeassa tilanteessa on täynnä?

Technically, are these obsolete? How do this compare to M142 HIMARS?
Well done, you're comparing two systems from two time periods.

Too slow action. You are dismisdt.
Basically grad rip off
RM is indeed. so is the RK and the several techs the soviets just took from us... including "mir".... and that one actually made the muricans mad..

probably alot better
@@hopohoez2458 definitely better because it carries two salvos instead of just one.
Too fucking slow
Do you know how much experience these dudes have? They might not be a ready, fully trained force yet.
they are training better safe than accident with explosives
It's a training exercise. Icy metal is also pretty slippery so you don't want to rush when you're on top of that thing.
No worries no hurries
Russian GRAD.
No, they are not. Finland is scrapped its BM-21 Grad launchers already 20 years ago. These are czech RM-70, purchased about 1990.

@@kullenberg83 Actually not, but quite a lot of stuff from 70's and 80's have been stored just in case.
