Rookie mistake. In AE, you have to separate the arm from the main body to make it more natural. Sure, the old school way is more natural and has character. But you could also do the same with AE if you learn it
The second one is not exactly the best example of what that type of animation can be. I believe Bluey is, at least in part, animated using either the same technology or at least similar to the second example. That show look incredible. The animation is genuinely very expressive, in the sense that the faces are full of personality and the movements are full of weight. Some of the falls Bandit takes almost make me feel pain.

as a hand-drawn animator I still don't understand and can't make tween animations huhuhuu 🥲😔. Well.. although hand-drawn animator are rare now, but ya'll can't hate tween animator, at least we can appreciate them who want to animate the easy way. I mean it's not that bad, because hand-drawn animation will always be special ✨
As a tweening animator, it's really not easier than hand drawn if you do it properly. My animation software crashed twice while tweening one video and it took me hours (for a like 20 second vid) People like this water it down to "yeah just click and it does it for you:3"
As a fully hand drawn animator I would like to confirm that hand drawn is a very lengthy process that (I think) is probably less technical. I don't have the right apps, though, so don't take this too seriously!
Honestly shaming people for tweening is stupid. It can be well done and honestly it’s just working smarter not harder. Plus it’s not like you’re not doing ANY of the work. If you want to make a full animated project you still have to draw the different poses needed and maybe some in between frames but tweening can help the process by saving time
Frr, I know how to tween and fps animate and theyre still both difficult to do and require equal effort. But one benefit is everything is precoloured; I never colour my fps animations 😭🙏
As much as I prefer hand drawn/frame by frame animationg, tweening is just as good. I'm no pro, but this short is not a great example to show how good motion animation is. You usually have the art on separate layers for specific things being animated
Yeah, I use both. I started out on fps but bc of adhd I can't ever finish them. When I do tweening, it is just as difficult but "easier" in a sense that I can complete all the separate drawings and the rest I can edit together. The editing does take a lot of effort, but I'd rather do that over drawing so many frames lol
tweening can be done correctly and look nice and smooth with graphs! this is kinda a bad example, you can make tweening look REALLY smooth and not choppy, you just have to practice. the same goes with hand drawn animation, it can be choppy, but learning how to master movements and smoothness makes it better! both are great, and adding them both together is always really cool!
THIS!!!! I do tweening and it's extremely hard (I use capcut so that might be the issue) but it always ends up looking a lot nicer than this (if anyone wants to see what I mean I upload my tweens btw)
@@Ra1ndr0pomfg I saw a few and your tweenings amazing! I lowk still am an idiot and I don't know how to distort overlays/stretch them in perspective in capcut 😭😭 idrk how to explain it properly
Let’s be fair here, this is kind of a bad example of tweening. Tweening is an awesome art form! Very useful in many animations no matter what! This one only looks slightly off because the body and arm are one piece, if the arm was seperate, and moving without the body it would look quite nice! But it is all up to preference! I myself prefer the hand drawn, but as someone who animates, hand drawn animation takes a lot of time and is difficult. If you like the tweeted one more, that’s awesome! I’m so glad you appreciate the under appreciated art form that is tweening! I’ve used it in my animations many times along side my hand drawn work and it is such a time saver!
chat this is not how tweening suppose to work, theyre both really great methods and are both HELLA DIFFICULT!!!! to make look good. to be good at something you gotta put in the effort alright alright
First: sorta beginner, as there;s no ease in Second: That is the wrong way to character rig, as the rest of the body is distorting also Edit: also there is nothing wrong with tweening, as I always combine tweening with hand animation
Most of the people I meet that tween usually think they are better than me, personally I just animate, I don’t like how it looks when tweening, but that’s your opinion
Some forms of tweening are manual. Like you don't just do a rig then click, that's an extremely unrealistic depiction. I hate when people are showing how tweening works and they just water it down to a few clicks when it's anything but a few clicks😭😭
Fr, this isn't fair, I'd rather see a time-lapse of the same thing being animated in both fps and tweening (I'd volunteer if not for my low motivation)
As a tweener, this isn't really a good example of how to do it. First of all, you have to separate the body parts into segments so there's no distortion of the rest of the body seen in the video. Secondly Adobe isn't the best program to use and is not the program most tweeners use; personally I use alight motion bc it's easy to learn and mostly free but there's a lot more programs if u wanna try tweening look into it there's better ones that are cheaper and easier to use
I use capcut to tween and it makes me so mad when people water down tweening to "click to rig and then it does it for you" like no, you need keyframes, graphs, layers, overlays, etc
Oo motion? I use capcut but it's obviously not meant to be a tweening app and I wanna try to see the difference between it and apps catered towards art
It’s because the animator did it incorrectly, and also watered it down. You don’t just click and have it done for you, that’d be as bad as AI generated animation.
as a both frame by frame and tweening animator, that is definitely not how tweening works, youll have to seperate the body parts youre going to tween so that the specific part you want to move only moves there is no problem using tweening or frame by frame, as long as you know how to use them, itll come out great. also, both animation techniques take time to learn
Tweening is pretty difficult if you know what you are doing, i usually have to separate each part of the drawing and. For example:the head, hair, eyes, torso, and arms are separated and put back together when animating in a program. Tweening is kinda like making a marionette with all moveable joints but made digitally. Did you know that vtubers models use tweening?
