oh good info. I want to learn more about trouble shooting garage doors and easy fixes for this old lady. Ha! Mine is kinda noisy (jerky)going down and up the tracks. do the rails need adjusting or something?

I changed out the hinges and roller arms a couple yrs ago and so had to undo the railing to do that.

Hey, thanks for watching! You may need to check out bracing options if your door is getting worn and flexing. It depends on the material, but see what you can find about adding structural support braces on the panels themselves. That may help you. Good luck!

Do you have any idea what could cause the door to open 6 inches and then shut immediately? My mother-in-law‘s garage door does this randomly. Springs, cables, tracks, rollers, and motors, seem to operate smoothly.

The motor is likely doing that due to the load surpassing the resistance limit that it is set at. I would be suspicious that there is a faulty or failing part, but you can try to dial up the resistance on the motor itself to see if you can get it working again. There should be a dial knob that you use a flat head to adjust. The spring may be wearing and not doing what it used to, so you need to compensate with more power from the motor

Thanks! I’ll give that a try. The house is only 10 years old and in a retirement community so I doubt it gets a lot of use. 👍
