The new War of the Ring Expansion is out! Would love to see you do a rules explanation of it to simplify learning Kings of Middle Earth. Would be so cool and so excited to play ot
Finally thank you I talked with Ares Games at the SPIEL (the world biggest boardgame fair/exhibition) in Essen. They meant that they will release the third expansion Kings of Middle Earth next year. But since it got delayed so many times who knows?
Which one is preferable to add first? I've heard most people say Lord's but they both look easy, and I like that Warriors factions don't come in every game are mostly just read the card.
Yeah, Lords is a smaller box, but I actually think it adds more complexity, so if you're looking for an easier addition, I'd say Warriors. They're both good though, so I don't think you can go wrong. Lords is cheaper, I guess.
Not sure what you're referring to exactly regarding normal army restrictions, but special units don't move the same way normal units move. Because they mostly rely on cards for that, it would be difficult to make it all the way there with the Corsairs. Also your opponent would see it coming a mile away.
I bought Lords after seeing everyone saying that it's the better of the two but after watching your video I really want to try warrior! snipping leaders with spider seems so nasty! I am mostly worried of having an overload of rules and just be paralyzed with all the possibilities: should I muster elrond? an army? use a card? bring a faction? set my faction in specific places? flip the table?
It does increase your options, possibly to an encumbering degree. I'd recommend starting with one and only adding the next when you're comfortable with it.
Just started this game, and your guides have been super helpful! On my second game now, and haven’t used either of the expansions yet, but they seem super fun. I’ve heard Lords is practically essential?
15:20 do call to battle cards make up their own deck with the same back as faction event cards or can only be called to battle if they have cards noting that? Not sure I understand the text on pg 10 bottom of the WotR rulebook
Those cards are kept to the side for most of the game. During battles where one of these factions is present, you draw the two matching cards and can play them as your battle card. Doing so "calls them to battle" and allows you to use their abilities.
@@RTFM ok so those 6 cards are a separate pile since it’s not a deck since the game has only 3 decks. 2 per faction. I may choose to call them into battle and use their cards. How does that work that the enemy won’t know if Im playing a faction card if it’s in a separate pile wouldnt that Indicate that I am playing some sort of card outside my hand of strategy and character cards?
@@tothepanels You draw them into your hand at the beginning of battle. You can mix them up if you want, and because they have the same symbol on the back, when you play it facedown, it'll look like any other card.
Is there a card or ability of the corsairs that makes taking the Grey Havens possible from Umbar? I'd love to try taking it in a game but currently Angmar is a little underutilized. I know corsairs can't move through opposing armies but I might consider having a house rule that ignores that since warriors make FP a little too strong anyways.
There's nothing that gets them there directly, but it's technically possible to get there using their cards. It'll take a little while though, so you'll be telegraphing your attack.
Possibly dumb question: does Warriors of Middle Earth include the base game? I've been looking and can't find War of the Rings only. All I'm seeing online is Warriors of Middle Earth.
Hard to say. The base game what I have the most experience with it, but you need the new cards if you're playing with the expansion, so it's hard to separate that. I think they're both good but provide different experiences.
@@RTFM i have Lords ive been playing a long time but i feel like warriors is not needed at all and not lore accurate. Will you make kings tutorial hopefully?
@@patrickvalo8822 I'm thinking about it. It'll really depend on whether or not I have enough time at the end of the year. I have a few other projects lined up that take priority.
You had me until you cited Rings of Power as inspiration for this video. Even Ralph Bashki's Lord of the Rings movies would have been better. Shame on you.

What new expansion?
@@rebelsoldier6133 kings of middle earth
Finally thank you

Yeah...I'll believe it when I see it.
@@RTFM totally understandable.
Nonetheless thank you very much all the War of the Ring videos
@@RTFMguess it's time for that final video haha just got my copy and dlcs and these videos have been awesome thank you
@@jacobcathcart5091 Happy to help! I might be making the Kings video in December if my schedule allows for it.
Nenya can only be used to cancel a standard Eye hunt tile when drawn, not just any standard hunt tile.
Ah, quite right! I've added a note. Thanks!
Perfect. You’ve taught me the original game and now the expansions 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Happy to help!
Finally the expansion !
I'm actually planning on making a video for the Kings expansion in December too.
@@RTFM kings expansion ?
@@dnaseb9214 It's the latest expansion for WotR. Lords and Warriors were released a while ago. Kings just came out this year.
We’ll need a third video when the kings of Middle Earth expansion releases in December
Fingers crossed it actually does release in December. It has suffered a lot of setbacks in the past.
Thank you so much for this. One more great how to play

The skit… lol… so good 😊
Ready for Kings of Middle Earth
How would the Corsairs work if I wanted to siege Grey Havens? Doesn’t the movement 19:40 adhere to normal army restrictions?

Per ships of great draught you in the video pass by the city and stronghold which isn’t possible since there are units there

the dice are cool but the leader variations and elven ring uses are my favorite part of it.

you posted this as I was sending my friend a WoME how to. I was like "wait don't watch that one. watch this one"
Haha, wow good timing!
Finally!!! Woohoo. Added to watch later.
Thank you wating for a video like this!
If you like War of the Ring I instantly like you.. I don't know why... damnit
Does that mean that we can use both expansions at the same time ?
Yep

Can you do Battle of Five Armies next please?
I actually let my Patreon backers choose which games I teach, so if they ask for it, then I definitely will.
When doing Faction recruit action, does it mean that only one active Faction recruits or does it affect all the active ones ?
Just one faction
Possibly dumb question: does Warriors of Middle Earth include the base game? I've been looking and can't find War of the Rings only. All I'm seeing online is Warriors of Middle Earth.
I don’t think it does, you would need the base game
You need to own the base game in order to play with any of the expansions. It's in stock (for now) at Ares Games' website
If I would choose the old Gandalf version, I have no access to his new ring ability (get a nation to war) and the connected new die I guess?
That's correct
Do you before base game cards or WoME cards
Hard to say. The base game what I have the most experience with it, but you need the new cards if you're playing with the expansion, so it's hard to separate that. I think they're both good but provide different experiences.
@15:05 that spider is alive..
Do Kings of Middle Earth Now!!!
Excellent content! Please do battle of the five armies next!
Is the warriors worth it i feel it adds to much bloat
I'd only recommend either expansion if you've played the base game a lot, otherwise the added complexity might be a little much.

"well that's disappointing" he says after liking rings of power. Lol (not bitter. Just playing)
Ugh. Balrogs don't have wings.
Warriors is great... but for me Lords is insanely overcomplicated (especially smeagol/gollum) and isn't going to get used, ever, LOL
I do hope you intend to fully refund any upcoming therapy sessions for that cute pillowcase R2D2 after the SW roast dealt... #3DeD2 #yesjudgement
