I think an important aspect you may not have experienced in this specific example, which struck me especially, is that I've heard the Ace Combat main theme over the years in different forms. They use it in title sequences, sometimes just hint at the melody during other pieces, and only rarely during important moments such as boss battles. In this specific case, the piece spends half its time building up to an angelic, triumphant crescendo, which is the main theme itself. For me, my familiarity with the theme over the years combined with the long wait since the last Ace Combat game, this piece was especially rewarding and even touching. It is the ultimate expression of both the series, its dedicated development team, and of course, a celebration for the players themselves. I remember I used to play Ace Combat 4 and I loved the music on it. So when I downloaded Ace combat 7 I thought the tunes wouldn’t be as good as shattered skies. And then mission 19 came and this played. It was at another level for me and it is a beautiful song. I HIGHLY recommend playing ace combat 4 , zero, and 7. Brilliant games. Such a shame that it went downhill in 2008-2009.
Assault Horizon was kinda the black sheep of the franchise, since it doesn’t take place in Strangereal (alternate version of earth) as well as some bits of gameplay that a lot of series fans disliked
Daredevil is one that made me cry and feel goosebumps. It's just so good and especially while playing the game it gives you that x factor. I can't explain it
Honestly, it wasn't a bad game, it just messed up in a few key areas such as the forced usage of Dogfight mode rather than having you manually manoveur and aim.
@@reonthornton685 Agreed on that and trying WAY. Too hard at being a Call of Duty game with door Gunner and C 130 missions. The bomber and helicopter missions were good, characters were good, plot was ok if repetitive of COD with a slightly Ace Combat spin and the soundtrack was on par with Ace Combat standards. DFM wasn't the worst idea, but doing everything possible to force it killed the game. Had it been optional, it would have been a lot better. I'm not a purist who says if it's not in Strangereal, it's not AC. I would love a GOOD AC game in real earth. But the three they've given us aren't up to par. Forcing/overusing DFM and ripping off COD killed Assault Horizon, Joint Assault's gameplay is broken and sluggish and the plot is HORRIFICALLY bad. Infinity is the best of the three but actual characters were MIA, the plot was trash, and the Campaign was too short. Better then the other two? YES!!!!! Better then the worst Strangereal game (6)? HELL NO!!!!!
I can't count how many times I have watched this video of yours. I just love the Ace Combat soundtracks they just fit so well with every mission and always give you *that* feeling. I hope sometime in the future you'll check out more music from this series like lots of people have requested Zero from Ace Combat Zero
When the song stops right before the vocal kicks in, the game pauses for a second too. I love how Ace Combat always tries to match their games with the songs.
The title of the song comes from the decision to jump from the Lighthouse during the mission into the dogfight below The music itself is used in the final Arsenal Bird engagement once the autonomous drone carrier enters the combat area
This is also an example of perfect integration of a song into gameplay. Not the entire song is on a loop, but only the first part. During the fight, you realize that you're pretty much fighting an unbeatable enemy while people are dying left and right. The mission turns more and more desperate until something happens which is lined up with the sudden shift to vocals at 7:51. In that moment, that desperation instantly changes to hope and you can see a path to victory.
I love the ost for the ace combat games because it definitely defines what air combat is portrayed. The way the pilots fight with one another, it’s a deadly but beautiful dance. It gives you the intense hope of what’s at stake.
Yeah, Kobayashi pulled a lot of cool tricks with the ost for 7. Another trick I think goes under the radar is how in the track "Archange" the strings and vocals in the beginning are synced with the sound of jet engines in a cutscene introducing the boss.
For me, every track of the AC Series is to make sure that you "the player" was the Ace of this game... and that's why Keiki Kobayashi make this Awesome track. Anyway..., still hats down for "ZERO".
Damn this is epic! I listened to this for the first time along with you. Brings back memories of the older games. I still got all the original ps2 games. Makes me wanna buy AC7 and jump right in. If I remember correctly one of the greatest songs in the series was razgriz from the belkan war ps2 game. Btw subscribed! You rock😁🤘 Edit: I’ve looked it up. My bad. It’s Zero from the Belkan War and the Razgriz theme is from the Unsung War. Both superb tracks.
Hey Atlas, I know you’re a busy man and people are requesting FromSoftware tracks out the wazoo (which is great and I can’t wait to see your next videos on them). But if you ever feel like revisiting Shadow of the Colossus, “To the Ancient Land” is a fantastic piece that is on par with the rest of the soundtrack. It’s the opening to the game and sets the mood perfectly. No rush of course, you’ve got lots of things to do and you already gave Shadow of the Colossus the justice it deserves. But if you ever get back to SotC, you’d make my day. ;) Great breakdown as always Atlas, keep it up!
I know tis video is old but the Ace Combat franchise has some of the best music in video games. Ace Combat 5 in particular. First Flight, The Unsung War and Zero comes to mind. Check them out if you have the time.
For synth tracks in this franchise the first one that come to mind is Comona from Ace Combat 4. A track that plays as you defend a launching satellite from enemy forces. A little less synth is Blockade from the same game, one of my all-time favourite tracks from the franchise. I’m pretty sure you’ve already heard mentions of Zero. This one is downright amazing, and plays during the final duel of Ace Combat Zero. Besides being an amazing track, it makes the fight feel like a dance of death.
Such underatted music, they really nailed the music and gameplay audio mixing together You should try play the game (easy mode so you can focus on listening) and feels the sky
god do it on hard mode, and you'll feel even more awesome when your barely dodge that missle, or go for that bombing run and pull up last second (Idk if it auto locks with some bombs, just in general pulling that stuff off is awesome)
Just to agree with what a lot of other people are saying here, I'd highly recommend you follow this up with 'Zero' from the Ace Combat Zero soundtrack. It has a very unique mix of things going on in it that I just love and is such a good high stakes duel. Also the lead up to that track with 'Valley of Kings' and 'Avalon' set the stage so well. That said, Ace Combat 04 has my personal favourite (and probably most apocalyptic) track in my opinion in 'Rex Tremendae' and 'Agnus Dei' together. It fits that world so well. EDIT: How did I forget 'Alicorn' from the Ace Combat 7 DLC missions?! Also incredibly epic and very apocalyptic too.
I admit, I did not play Ace Combat until AC7 got serious reviews. Played it and was FLOORED by how much I loved it. I felt like the biggest noob because I joined in the club on AC7, but I was shocked by how many people were like, "nah just love this series!" --- The music, even on first go hit me HARD, I was actually holding my controlling flying around sometimes just being like, "how is this not mentioned at the Game of the Year Awards?"
I get so emotional every time the sforzando hits. I just start laughing too because I'm taken right back to the moment in the game it kicks off. It was such a dynamic moment and you get swept up in it so easily. And when the full choir kicks in you can sort of hear a little bit of The Unsung War leitmotif. Keiki Kobayashi is a fucking masterful composer.
This song represents Daredevil Mission perfectly in a very semiotic way, allow me to explain... The first thing we hear is that metallic sound, something huge appears out of knowhere like a monster that has slightly revealed itself. Again the metallic sound but this time is followed by a keyboard in crescendo is getting closer/bigger. In the end is finally revealling is true form coming out of the clouds. This monster is massive omnipotent and a force to be feared. It appears to be invincible. The keyboard continues but know something's different... a vocal appears. Suddenly there's calm. Is not calm but hope, an ace have appeared to face the monster, we do not hear anything but vocals for a moment, then again the orchestra starts getting louder like representing the challenge about to come. The vocals explode!, the fight begins, both the vocals and the rest of the instruments collide for a extended period, finally after that everything goes lower the beast makes a final roar and fall from the sky.
The analogue and technology / modern touch is heard in the track "Stonehenge Defensive". Its a rehash of the track "Stonehenge Offensive" from Ace Combat 4 with a lot more of a digital and modern touch added in to reflect that the time period is 15 years after the events of AC4 when you're defending an installation you attacked 15 years ago.
For context of when this song is used in the game, it's during the second to final mission, in which what was basically a world war is stopped as every group puts aside their differences. An AI run drone factory begins uploading data from the top ace pilot in the world that was featured as a boss earlier in the game that you shoot down, into the systems of every drone it's producing, and every pilot in the world knows that's bad. The mission features enemies that talked to you and even shoot down allies in previous missions, all coming together as they understand that it's no longer about country, it's about survival as a species, and the danger that drone technology proposes when left unchecked. The human element is very much meant to invoke the spirit of what it means to be alive I think, while the synth and electronics are used to oppose it in a harmonious way, much like how man and machine oppose each other in this battle in the sky. It's a beautiful clashing both narratively and musically.
You will get 2 different experiences listening to this song: If you know the history of the franchise and when/where this music plays AND If you don't. And I recommend you do, totally worth it.
So a few others to listen to from this OST are: Archange, Hush, and Battle of Farbanti. I will make a recommendation of the following from previous titles: 6: Liberation of Gracemeria, Invasion of Gracemeria 5: The Unsung War, The Journey Home Zero: Zero 4: Megalith - Agnus Dei, Safe Return, and Farbanti.
I If you're looking for suggestions still, I'd recommend the Ys 8 soundtrack. It's easily my favorite soundtrack of the last 3 years. Crevice of the Archeozoic Era - for the drone towards the middle. Iclucian Dance - for that it is one of those songs where each instrument gets a turn in the spotlight. I mean you can do a react if you like but I just love that soundtrack so I try to suggest it whenever I can, Falcom has a great in house troupe.
I've been watching your videos for sometime now, really enjoying someone actually talking about video game music, have you thought of reaction to older games OST? Even after so many years Yasunori Mitsuda composition on Xenogears still remains my favorite, is a little short as whole considering the size of the game, but I believe it focus on quality. Some song repeat mid-through but I guess is something that was more common back then. My favorites tracks are: (keep in mind that I'm using the new names from the Revival Disc -the first and the last- disk which is a official remaster) - Dark Dawn (is the song that plays in the intro movie) - Bond of Sea and Flame - Where Dreams Hatch (probably my favorite) - October Mermaid - Fangs Bared at God (maybe is a little long, serve more as to accentuate the atmosphere) - and Awakening (which is the final Boss theme) Theres alot more, but wouldn't serve much as a selection XD
You should try AC 5 and Zero, both had amazing stories and assault horizon had a weird system that made dogfighting feel like a QuickTime event, the other ace combat games make you actually fly when dogfighting.
This is pretty dope, but I know a lot of people were asking for Fromsoftware songs such as Slave knight Gael and Soul of Cinder. It would be nice if you reacted to those :)
I’d love to see your reaction to the two tracks “Hush” and “Faceless Soldier” from this game if you ever do them. Those two and Daredevil are my three favourite tracks from this game.
Once the United attack on the arsenal bird failed and they said to engage it separately and this started playing i realosed the importance and it made the impossible feal possible
I know this is late but I didn’t see anyone else say it. The song itself is a battle between man and machine. At first the synthetic instruments are oppressive until the hero (player) arrives and turns the tide of the battle.
It’s one thing to listen to daredevil but when your flying over the space elevator drone all around your up against the Arsenal bird this thing has been harassing you and your allies the whole war and now it’s the final battle your allies panicking and cheering you on all hope seams lost but then the shield drops and everyone knows what part of the music plays when that happens.
If you liked this, you should listen to either Ace Combat 5's First Flight (was played during the Tokyo Olympics) or Listen to the Razgriz Main Theme (from the same game)
Not sure if your still checking these comments out; but a more synthetic heavy song you might want to check out from Ace Combat 7 I could recommend to you would be Magic Spear 1 and 2; Magic Spear 1 has a very nice electronic guitar soloist that is playing over a beat that is just constantly driving you forward full throttle into an adrenaline ride; but when it transitions into Magic Spear 2 you actually can get some chills as you listen to the track morph into a much more thriller race against the clock score where the composer actually uses the sound of the pilots high altitude breathing as a syncopated rhythm for a metronome type effect to help sell that idea of you being up against a clock to stop the bad thing from happening. Over all the Magic Spear mission with these two tracks was a complete blast to play through with how the structure was done.
I'm probably late to the party, but you mentioned you're interested to listen to the OST that leans more on syntethizer. Still on the same game, there's "Magic Bullets" which is more on the pop with strong guitar-bass play (not necessarily synth, but it's a welcome deviation from the usual orchestra); some of the more synth tracks are from the game's mission briefing OST "LRSSG Briefing I." From Ace Combat 4, there's "Comona" which is soft-rock and is longtime fan favorite (similar power with Magic Bullets), then "Mayhem" from Ace Combat Zero which is, if I have to describe, a fuse of metal-rock with classic orchestration. But generally, lots of the franchise's mission briefing soundtracks are quite synth heavy. Just pop up the "briefing" keyword if you're looking for them.
I have to say it as a Ace Combat fan: when playing an Ace Combat game, you're a badass until the skies start to talk Latin (common saying in the Ace Combat fandom)
I've never played ace combat but damn that track was fantastic 👏 . Im gonna listen to what that comment on the video reccomended lol Could you make a vidoe on Liberi Fatali from Final Fantasy 8 it would be nice hearing your thoughts about it

And then mission 19 came and this played. It was at another level for me and it is a beautiful song. I HIGHLY recommend playing ace combat 4 , zero, and 7. Brilliant games. Such a shame that it went downhill in 2008-2009.
I felt like skies unknown was a spiritual sequel to shattered skies
Assault Horizon was kinda the black sheep of the franchise, since it doesn’t take place in Strangereal (alternate version of earth) as well as some bits of gameplay that a lot of series fans disliked
That's unfortunate, I did like Tha game a lot
And the player character talked. You dont do that.
Daredevil is one that made me cry and feel goosebumps. It's just so good and especially while playing the game it gives you that x factor. I can't explain it
Poor man. He played assault horizon. The one game in the series that no one likes
I loved that game 😄
And you forget Joint Assault. ROUNDLY HATED.
Shut up, let him love what he love
Great breakdown, my compliments! I like the fact that you make us see your reaction trought all the song before breaking it down.
I can't count how many times I have watched this video of yours. I just love the Ace Combat soundtracks they just fit so well with every mission and always give you *that* feeling. I hope sometime in the future you'll check out more music from this series like lots of people have requested Zero from Ace Combat Zero
Wow, thank you so much! More Ace will come!
When the song stops right before the vocal kicks in, the game pauses for a second too.
I love how Ace Combat always tries to match their games with the songs.
The title of the song comes from the decision to jump from the Lighthouse during the mission into the dogfight below
The music itself is used in the final Arsenal Bird engagement once the autonomous drone carrier enters the combat area
Such a well made put together song. I have it on my background working playlist for editing.
i'll be waiting for the other ace combat ost reactions with great interest, thank you for checking out this franchise's ost
The Ace Combat community is one of the only fan groups that will except a major release delay due to a single song. And it is entirely worth it.
I wise man said...
*A delayed game is eventually good. A rushed game is forever bad*
I love the ost for the ace combat games because it definitely defines what air combat is portrayed. The way the pilots fight with one another, it’s a deadly but beautiful dance. It gives you the intense hope of what’s at stake.
I do believe that one perfect mission run by _'Tuga Avenger'_ really showed this music's crystall-laden potential 👍
Yeah, Kobayashi pulled a lot of cool tricks with the ost for 7. Another trick I think goes under the radar is how in the track "Archange" the strings and vocals in the beginning are synced with the sound of jet engines in a cutscene introducing the boss.
Pro tip: when the sky starts speaking Latin, strap in for the fight of your life
For me, every track of the AC Series is to make sure that you "the player" was the Ace of this game... and that's why Keiki Kobayashi make this Awesome track. Anyway..., still hats down for "ZERO".
You know a music packs a punch when the game is delayed just for it!!!
You rock😁🤘
Edit: I’ve looked it up. My bad. It’s Zero from the Belkan War and the Razgriz theme is from the Unsung War. Both superb tracks.
You won't regret a second of Ace Combat 7
Hey Atlas, I know you’re a busy man and people are requesting FromSoftware tracks out the wazoo (which is great and I can’t wait to see your next videos on them). But if you ever feel like revisiting Shadow of the Colossus, “To the Ancient Land” is a fantastic piece that is on par with the rest of the soundtrack. It’s the opening to the game and sets the mood perfectly. No rush of course, you’ve got lots of things to do and you already gave Shadow of the Colossus the justice it deserves. But if you ever get back to SotC, you’d make my day. ;)
Great breakdown as always Atlas, keep it up!
Thanks mate! Yeah, SoTC has a lot to give I think, even if is not requested a ton! Give William a like please!
I love this! Without spoiling too much, a major part of the story in the game is the difference between manned fighter and drones.
I know tis video is old but the Ace Combat franchise has some of the best music in video games. Ace Combat 5 in particular. First Flight, The Unsung War and Zero comes to mind. Check them out if you have the time.
Into The Dusk and 15 Years Ago.
Can't wait for 7 and 4 to be on spotify
"Maybe even drones"
oh boy if only you knew lol
For synth tracks in this franchise the first one that come to mind is Comona from Ace Combat 4. A track that plays as you defend a launching satellite from enemy forces.
A little less synth is Blockade from the same game, one of my all-time favourite tracks from the franchise.
I’m pretty sure you’ve already heard mentions of Zero. This one is downright amazing, and plays during the final duel of Ace Combat Zero. Besides being an amazing track, it makes the fight feel like a dance of death.
Such underatted music, they really nailed the music and gameplay audio mixing together
You should try play the game (easy mode so you can focus on listening) and feels the sky
god do it on hard mode, and you'll feel even more awesome when your barely dodge that missle, or go for that bombing run and pull up last second (Idk if it auto locks with some bombs, just in general pulling that stuff off is awesome)

SFFS for anti ships for maximum madness
What about Unsung War !?
This is definitely one of my favourite songs from ace combat 7
I love Ace Combat and you won a new subscriber
The vocals explode!, the fight begins, both the vocals and the rest of the instruments collide for a extended period, finally after that everything goes lower the beast makes a final roar and fall from the sky.
this is such a badass soundtrack. Cant wait to see more reactions!
And I recommend you do, totally worth it.
if you want something to campare this to, from the same game, try Alicorn or Anchorage Raid :)
Anchorhead Raid is an absolute jam
So a few others to listen to from this OST are: Archange, Hush, and Battle of Farbanti.
I will make a recommendation of the following from previous titles:
6: Liberation of Gracemeria, Invasion of Gracemeria
5: The Unsung War, The Journey Home
Zero: Zero
4: Megalith - Agnus Dei, Safe Return, and Farbanti.
When it kicks in qt 7:52 when your playing the game in first person is just epic.
My favorites tracks are: (keep in mind that I'm using the new names from the Revival Disc -the first and the last- disk which is a official remaster)
- Dark Dawn (is the song that plays in the intro movie)
- Bond of Sea and Flame
- Where Dreams Hatch (probably my favorite)
- October Mermaid
- Fangs Bared at God (maybe is a little long, serve more as to accentuate the atmosphere)
- and Awakening (which is the final Boss theme)
Theres alot more, but wouldn't serve much as a selection XD
This past week I did some underdog requests. I will do more in the future!
Ace combat 5 the unsung war OST hits different
Now he's gotta do one of these breakdowns for Ace Combat 5s Razgriz Theme and Ace Combat Zero's ZERO track 😁😁😁😁😁 those are my top 2 favorites
react to: Lady Maria, of the astral clock tower OST from Bloodborne
Lady Maria, Gehrman the first hunter and Laurence are a must!!!
@@Surrealiantx YEA!!
MISSILE!MISSILE! MISSILE! MISSILE! MISSILE!
You’re half right. The cold mechanical modern description isn’t so much about the planes as it is about the drones
You must definitely hear "Zero" from Ace Combat 0
Fucking knew you were doing Daredevil. This is a legit track
He’s already done a few fromsoft osts, wouldn’t complain if he did more though - specifically I’d like to hear the twin princess reacted to
Chill lol he already did 2 fromsoftware games back to back. Give other fans a chance
When I play battlefield or Star Wars squadrons I listen to comna for dog fight music
Oh man, Zero from Ace Combat Zero is probably my favorite OST of all time, that would make a nice reaction (it includes acoustic guitar, yes).
Nice, I adore Ace Combat music. Would love to hear you react to Zero at some point!
Please react to: "Someone is always moving on the surface" from the Armored Core franchise.
Ooh, AC:FA!
I’d love to see your reaction to the two tracks “Hush” and “Faceless Soldier” from this game if you ever do them. Those two and Daredevil are my three favourite tracks from this game.
All these people talking about Zero, where's the love for Ace Combat X??!
Skies of Deception

@@mrandrossguy9871 Alect Squadron theme.
This music gave me the determination i needed to take down the arsenal bird.
Please react to "Hush" from the same OST if you haven't listened to it yet. It impressed me even more than Daredevil.
6:16 no one can say they don't love the vocals in this
I'm not Impressed !
Have you heard Joint Assault: Sound Embrace !?
The ADFX-10 theme would be great to see you react to
Once the United attack on the arsenal bird failed and they said to engage it separately and this started playing i realosed the importance and it made the impossible feal possible
You really should listen to Ace Combat 5 The Unsung War’s theme called The Unsung War. It is amazing.
I know this is late but I didn’t see anyone else say it. The song itself is a battle between man and machine. At first the synthetic instruments are oppressive until the hero (player) arrives and turns the tide of the battle.
You need to react to Megalith Agnus Dei + Rex Tremendae from Ace Combat 4. It's a masterpiece.
Never played ace but this is sweet
you should try it!
0:00 best moment : "AAAUGH"
You need to listen to Zero. Its a goddamn masterpiece of a track.
Ah I would be so happy if you reacted and brokedown the Ace Combat 5's "Unsung War". If I composed that I would consider myself a godlike being haha
I check them aight
I think the Inception bwongs were already present in some Ace Combat 5 music tracks, which predated the movie by 6 years.
Oh and this is the titular song when you fight the Arsenal Birds.
Arabella?
AC6 was....something. But yeah, liberating Gracwmaria was the fucking shit.
I recommend you to listen "last hope" from this game. Its represents drones, and it is very synthetic
You should hear Ave Victor (Ave Belka) pretty intense.
Real name of that track is ‘Alicorn’. ‘Hero of Comberth Harbor’ is an even more intense version.
This track is a boss battle in musical form.
I have to say it as a Ace Combat fan: when playing an Ace Combat game, you're a badass until the skies start to talk Latin (common saying in the Ace Combat fandom)
I've never played ace combat but damn that track was fantastic 👏 . Im gonna listen to what that comment on the video reccomended lol
Could you make a vidoe on Liberi Fatali from Final Fantasy 8 it would be nice hearing your thoughts about it
Please do Megalith or Zero from AC4 or AC0
Comna and megalith from AC4 are amazing
Try some of the other ace combat songs, i recommend 'Zero' from ace combat zero. 'The Unsung War' is also a very good song.
