Sonata written in 1953 for the great Nicanor Zabaleta.
Fantaisie, Virtuosity, Sensuality and the necessity to use various colours make this piece a wonderful challenge for harpists.

When Nicanor Zabaleta commissioned this harp sonata from Germaine Tailleferre, he sent a cheque which she probably wasn’t expecting. Germaine’s daughter, Francoise, told me during one of my interviews with her that when the composer opened Zabaleta’s letter, the cheque fell to the floor. It is difficult to imagine the harp literature of the 20th. century without this precious work. The third movement is an absolute ‘tour de force’.

When Tailleferre received the envelope with payment for the commission, not expecting an enclosure, watched it fall to the floor; she nevertheless read the letter asking her to write it. One of the most astute occurrences of the 20th century on Zabaleta's part.

I like this sonate very much and you can hear from the morphology, that it is not the way the classical sonate implies, as the second motiv is in h-minor and it is supposed to be in h-flat-minor, since the first motiv takes off in c-sharp-major, right Mama Joana?
