Champagne sparkling wine is as good as always a blend of the grapes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot meunier. There are a few other grapes that are allowed by the "méthode champenoise", but the aforementioned three grapes more or less make up 100% of champagne sparkling wines. Champagne thusly refers to both the area, the method and the grapes/blend.
