You just saved me hours of worrying about having to replace that switch. Thank you.
Great tip for a idiot problem. I changed the battery in my 17 and was figuring a trip to the dealer. Thanks again
This website was a wonderful thing. It saved me from buying a power window motor or switch. Who knew you could reset the memory. Not me. Thanks a lot.
I just had my battery replaced by Walmart, and then found the same problem! Walmart man told me it's the button problem and not because they replaced the battery. My brother found your video and I got it fixed! Thank you so much!!!!! It's amazing!
That sounds awesome!
When I bought my Outback, from a BMW dealer, I had this same problem. They sent it to a Subaru dealer to be repaired. It took them a week and $500 dollars in labor to change the switches. Thought for sure I was in for the same, again. Great knowledge share, definitely worth a couple of cups of coffee!
Cheers! 🍻
To echo everyone else, THANK YOU! I just took delivery of a 2016 Outback and noticed this problem yesterday. I remembered that the dealer had recently replaced the battery. I tried your steps and BOOM! Thank you so much!
Thank for for posting. You also saved me a trip to the dealership, and no telling how much money they would have charged, not to mention the time. I also agree that it's just better to put in an Interstate Battery. I went with a 32 series on my Outback for an extra 100 CCA!
I watched so many videos, and asked so many people. Everyone basically said... hold the window all the way down for 4-10 seconds, and then all they way up or variations of it.
I tried your method and it worked. Well Subaru is fixed. Now I got the same problem with my 05 Toyota Highlander.
Glad I could help!
Awesome! I was about to tear out the switches until I noticed your video. Thanks.
Perfect. Your video hit the sweet spot. I replaced my battery and noticed the window problem some weeks later. I was puzzled and was beginning the process of learning about driver side switch panel assembly design and replacement.
Thank you!! I was crazy trying to understand what was happening with my window.
This video is a lifesaver bro. It needs more views.
Subaru needs to stop being so weird. 🤣
My automatic window up/down feature also didn't work but your solution fixed that too -- thanks! I had to do the window reset trick on both the driver and passenger windows. Everything works normally now! I have a Subaru Legacy with keyless ignition but the reset trick works the same.
Dude thank you!!!! Just got a 17 wrx and had this problem noticed new battery and now with your video back in business!!!
Thank you for posting!! I was relieved to find that the window was a simple fix!
Thank you! It saved me a trip to the dealer!
Only technique that worked for me, thank you!
Thanks for this, fixed my wife's car and got some major points. And nice descriptive title - that led me to the video. Might note that with push-button start, you just need to push the start button (with no foot on brake) twice, to get it to the 'on' position needed for this fix.
Glad you got it working again. My wife didn’t care I upgraded/replaced her battery. The night before I changed the battery, she killed her battery 15 miles from home and got stranded. 🤷♂️
Thank you! Thought I was going to have to take my car to the dealership. Simple fix! Thanks!
Soooooo helpful I have a 2015 legacy and couldn't get my windows to work right. So greatly appreciated sir.
You’re welcome. What was Subaru thinking doing that???
Thank you! Just changed the battery in my car and had this happen.
This worked for Lexus.
Thank you for the info. This worked for me after I replaced my battery. I used to reset the drivers windows auto up/down function as well.
Thanks buddy! You saved me a long drive to the dealership.
What was Subaru thinking.
thank you for this. had no idea what was going on. all is well now. same trick works for the diver side window when the auto up and down doesn't work
This worked for our 2015 Outback. Thank you!
I knew it was going to be something stupid. I appreciate you taking the time and making the effort for this video.
Thanks for watching!
Replaced battery in my Legacy then ran into this problem with the pass window. Thank you!
Awesome tip. This happened to me after I changed out my battery on my 2017 wrx. Fixed it right away after trying this. Thanks man!!!
Thanks for the video. My driver's side passenger switch stopped working. I thought I was going to need to replace it. Thanks for the tip. Followed your instructions and now it works. I had some work done at my Subaru dealer this week, and they cleaned the battery cables.
You're welcome!
You are genius, this video has just helped me a lot, thank you so much!
The best and yet the simplest solution to the most stupid power window switch.
Thanks! This was originally a how to swap out a battery video, but the comments were all about the power switch reset, so I re-titled it. Glad the video helped!
The BCI 24 nicely fits in the tray and has higher capacity. It's 1.2" longer so you need to modify the sleeve/heat shield but the tray looks as if it was built for the BCI group size 24.
Good to know. Thanks!
Hi Brother, I just disconnected my battery or I should it went dead and this post helped me out. My passenger window didn’t go down from the drivers side and you gave me the tip to repair it. Thanks from Southern California
Awesome!
Thanks a lot for this video I was worried I may needed a new switch after I changed new battery, can’t thank you enough.😊👍
You’re welcome! I don’t know why Subaru had to design it that way. 🤷♂️
Perfect! I had already figured to forward the video since the subject of the video was about my concern after a battery change. Very helpful!! Right On!
Originally this video was titled how to change the battery, but people were more interested in resetting the window button. So I changed the title.
Glad the video helped!
Thank you! Saved me a bunch of time.
this was most useful! thank you!
Thank you so much. I just went through this and thought I was going need to take it to the shop. IT WORKED thank you.
You’re welcome!
Thank you sow much for posting this ! I was going to replace the Front Door-window Switch module !
This is typical behavior because nobody reads the user manual, me too. 😂🤣😂
Appreciated 👍🏼!!
I will also add (2017 wrx sti, but it may be the same for all models)…
1. Have to do this for each individual window (passenger front and rear windows).
2. Hold up for 5 seconds, will hear/feel a faint click. Good to go.
This solution starting at 2:45 worked for a 2009 Lexus. My battery was changed, and then found that the driver window controls could not operate the three passenger windows.
if you have auto function on drivers side you need to do this on drivers side window also for auto function to work
Thank you! Saved me some headache. Very helpful
You’re welcome
Thanks. That worked!
Thanks this worked on my Legacy. tl;dr version to reset the window: put key in ignition, turn car to ON. Use passenger window switch and lower window 1/2, then bring window back up and hold switch up for ~2 seconds. Then you can control the passenger window from the driver side.
Nice summary!
Thanks for posting this. Anyone know what the purpose of this change in switch behavior is meant to do after loss of battery power?
I don’t think there’s really a purpose. Perhaps it’s bad design? The cynical side of me thinks it’s maybe so owners can bring it into the dealership to charge for an easy fix. I doubt it tho.
WOW!!! Thank you SO much for posting this!!! I was just about to start poking around to find blown fuses. You just saved me a lot of time that I just don't have.
Just had this problem today!! Thank you so much for posting this!!!!
Glad it helped!
Sooo easy. Thank you. Problem solved!!!!!
Thank you! Very informative and saved me $$$!!! And now I know Subaru batteries are crap. 👍👍
You’re welcome!
Weird but thanks. Saved me taking it to dealer
That saved me a trip to the dealership which is 1.5 hours away.
Wow! Thanks for a nice trick!!!
Dude, you are a life saver!
Awesome to hear!!!
thank you so so much for quick easy video!! i have zero idea why they would have such mechanism !!!???
It’s so weird. 🤷♂️
Thank you for the info. Im flummoxed that Subaru would make their system like this. What purpose does this stupid need for reprogramming the windows? serve??
The reset process works on a 2017 Levorg too.
You da man! Thanks TTT
Amazing! You’re a wizard
Thank you so much, I was so worried!!
No problem!
Brilliant!
This is what youtube is for
Glad it helped!!
THANKYOU , i just did this and it worked!
Awesome!
thanks- I broke mine trying to force driver side down.
Thanks for the tip!! Super useful!!
😁👍
Thank You!! I thought I was crazy. What about the MPH display? That went away too is there an easy way to re-set it as well??
No, but let us know here if you find a fix.
Plus and minus on left side of steering wheel..i hear.
Thanks but you may want to edit this and make it shorter by not showing the battery replacement and just the power window correction or reset clip. This his stupid by Subaru for making this features.
Originally, this was a how to replace battery video. But people seem to be more interested in the window reset portion only. That’s why I changed the title. Maybe I’ll make a shorter version in the future.
Do you know if there is a fix for the lumbar switch too?
Thank you!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Your video guided me perfectly. Thanks! Just wondering how the battery you installed been doing since? It looks like the one I got.
Working great so far. Have had great experience with Interstate in the past.
Excellent... many thanks!
Thank you very much my problem is solved thanks to you your instructions were perfect
+cliffordb47 From what I gather, Subaru put in a really underpowered battery to minimize vehicle weight in order to achieve better gas mileage numbers. This is for what is supposedly touted as a great “winter car.” Besides its awesome AWD system, I can’t say anything else about this car regarding the cold and snowy winters I have in Chicago.
What makes the Subaru OEM battery 'underpowered'? Cold crank power is just a gauge used to compare batteries at 32F and how often does one need to crank the engine for 30 seconds in the freezing cold? Higher CCA doesn't guarantee a superior battery. A battery needs to be reliable, should take charge easily and hold the charge for a long time. I just replaced the OEM battery on my 2014 Outback today with an Interstate (from Costco) like yours because the temperature dipped below 15F and the battery had a little hard time turning over the engine; this is the first time it has ever done that. It always started the engine in the first try and held the charge after I left it sitting for 5 weeks in the heat in southern Illinois. The OEM battery performed fine over 40 months. I have always left the brand new Outback outside since day one and I have never missed a start up even when the temperature dipped well below freezing. Both new and OEM battery were of similar dimensions and there is no way there is any differences in physical weight to increase mpg... FYI, I look at the label of the OEM battery, it was made by Johnson Controls, the same company that makes Interstate batteries.
Thank you it worked!!
Thanks for the vid!
Thank you so much!!!!
Ever have a problem with the windows not working correctly after this??
Yup. Watch the last few minutes of this video.
I just want to replace the window switch with a Non AUTO switch from the rear... But the driver side is one complete module unit, which kills that idea.
Did you lose all the radio presets?
These new Subaru's require a "Memory Saver" or a Battery Charger attached to the battery terminals ... BEFORE DISCONNECTING THE OLD BATTERY....this keep all the memory in the computer (Nav.Radio, Window, Mirrors, etc.).
12 people can't reach over the center console
I don't see the logic of having to reset the window switch. Why? As much as i love Subaru AWD, the car is overengineered and not vet mechanic friendly
Lol 🤷♂️ makes absolutely no sense
Awesome thank you
What about memory loss?
Myth. Reset the clock. Or, if you have Navigation, let it find a satellite or two and the clock will reset itself.
I just got my Subaru back from the shop and now NONE of my windows work whatsoever. I checked the fuse and it was fine, but I replaced it anyway, still not working.
Thanks!
THANK YOU!!
Thank you!
You’re welcome
Would it work for the driver's side window?
It should work
Merci !! Tu ma fait sauver 500$$ !!
I think you said that you saved $500 by watching this video. Awesome!!! 😎👍
Sweet! Thanks.
I mean for the window fix.
Nice. My problem is that my window won't go down at all even from the passenger switch. Any ideas
Did that start happening after a battery change?
This is also my problem. Have you found a way to fix this?
@@anthonyruberto8654 I banged on the door a few times and now it works. I assuming there has to be a loose cable or switch somewhere . Also I disconnected the battery to see if that resets it and I'm not sure which one fixed it
@@kaliman198117ify mine stopped working after changing my battery. Every video I've seen, they are able to operate the window from the passanger side , but not the drivers side. I'm not able to do either. I'll try banging, thanks for the advice!
How did someone figure that out!?!
I looked in the manual.
Skip to 2:45 for the answer
Another one of those weird things Subaru likes to do.
Yes, subaru is quite odd. 🤣
Thank you! But why the fuck is this even a thing lol.
Why on earth does this happen with a Subaru? LOL
“It’s what makes Subaru a Subaru.” 😂
Thank you. Terrible design by Subaru.
Agreed
Wow!! Thank you so much!
