    If were to be able to get my choice of the greatest swords of Tolkien's Legendarium it would be Ringil. One of the things that I like the most about Ringil is that it was Melkor who actually helped Fingolfin forge it while still in Valinor, and it was the sword that Fingolfin would later use to permanently cripple him in their legendary 1-on-1 duel! Of course, Melkor had intended Fingolfin to use Ringil on Feanor, but Fingolfin was too smart & level-headed to do something that stupid. You know that all throughout their duel and with every painful step he took for the rest of his life Melkor/Morgoth was cursing the day the helped Fingolfin forge that great sword! Also, Fingolfin was the coolest elf in the Legendarium!
    I am also a huge fan of Glamdring, but between the two Ringil just edges out Glamdring for it's fantastic history.

    Whilst I'm not overly into weapons & armor in movies & games, I do have a passing interest. Much personality can be found in them. They are often cool looking &, of course, their Legend depends mostly on the wielder, but something must be said for the craftsmanship, any imbued effects or magic and there's definitely a kind of bond created between the objects & their users. Some strange transference of energy takes place, it feels like. I have noticed this same feeling in regards to places, nature (remember my tree diatribe b4? 😄) & even vehicles. Those larger objects are more easily parted out of necessity. But, more easily carried objects, well & oft used, become that much more special because, being portable, they can stay with you longer & in an abundance of places other objects can't go. More easily handed down over time, as well, gaining momentum and possibly exaggerated more in tales as they go. Though, other times, as with well known deeds of these blades you spoke of, the Legends remain true without need for aggrandization. I find a certain awe even in every day Historic objects that might well be on display in museums, knowing some far off person from ages past made and/or used these just in living their lives, so far removed from me & my time & environment. As for my preferred weapon, I'd probably have to go with Sting, simply because I'm not very fighty & probably closest to being a Hobbit. Seems about my size & speed & only to be used in a pinch, but with great effect. I wouldn't be opposed to greater depth vids on these or other weapons, but I'm unsure what more detail there would be. You seem to have already struck a great balance here. But, if you think there's enough there to delve further, have at it, but don't wake the Balrog. 😂

    Wow! As I may have written a while back, these were the books I read through 30+ times, but I don't recall any foreshadowing, in writing, that w/o Merry 1st there couldn't have been Eowynn 2nd. Brilliant insight. If one thought long enough about the how-&-why of that moment since the movie(s) didn't provide backdrop either, one could be kept up at night. I don't sleep well anyway; avg. start time to the day is 0300 PT.

    One does not simply choose one sword from the lord of the rings tales of middle earth. For you would need and have use for many in different battles. For a long sword ,Narsil / Andúril or Glamdring froan arming sword Herugrim, a dagger Sting or perhaps a Morgal blade maybe more than one if the disintegrate after using mortal hands. As a manchette Orcrist will do nicely. So in other words which sword would you choose ?Yes.

    • @cocodojo
      @cocodojo Рік тому

      Aye... swords are great and all, but what use would they be against a dwarf who doesn't quite stand a bit taller, like Eomer mentioned? You'll be wanted a good stout AXE!
      But, damn them swords of Middle Earth are so good and have a very good bit of lore attached to the named ones.

    other than glowing, did any of the swords really have "power" or were they honestly just famous.
    sams sword not being able to cut the webs could fall to several things, improper edge alignment which could be caused by poor design. or improper care and not keeping them sharp, over use from chopping potatoes.
    obviously magic is real within the middle earth, so they could of embued them with special properties. but honestly none of the swords really were described as such other than "glows in presence of orcs"

      Quite a few of them were mentioned to have some kind of affinity or attribute attached to them, but the most notable one was Sting's effectiveness against spiders.
