Sure am !!! and thanks for the tips and wow, your photos were beautiful, and those vertical panorama were incredible! And I'm curious, Do you ever do exposition of your pictures ?!
This video is GREAT! Put photography into such simple concepts that can be explored in much greater detail by yourself. You also perfectly described how I learned LightRoom
Thanks for the tips with taking pictures. Just tell you. Any time I see a new video from you I watch it as quick as possible. You always have information that I didn’t even think about. Which makes my mind go the distance. I will always remember for night time photo “follow the 💡 .”
So pretty i was at that park yesterday morning strolling thru looking at what's left of the sakura. I love how you take the time to explain things so us simpletons can understand.
I definitely want it to be easy to digest for anyone Hidden comment section secret: I actually made this video for my little sister who is really into photography but a super beginner. Wanted to give her something to get her going when the flowers start to bloom in Canada!
This was sooo informative and I learned a LOT. So many of these things are applicable for me, even if I'm not taking pictures of sakura. There were so many thing I could take as a part of my photographing toolset as a nature photogapher. Especially the ones about utilizing the phone (my primary gear is my DSLR, even though I don't carry it with me all the time as it can be a bother).
Very useful tips! As someone just trying to get started in photography, I really appreciate the explanations and pointers! Definitely going to play around with settings more!
So many pretty photos and sakura! Thank you for all the tips. The one night photo, the "miss" one, has pretty colours! Would make a nice painting with a few adjustments.
Thank you so much for this amazing video! I like how you mentioned at the beginning that it will always be crowded, especially at the famous parks and how we can overcome this to take beautiful sakura photos. Subscribed!
Good tip on the blurring. When you think about it, this is simply how we naturally see things. For example, if you look at someone in the face and really pay attention to your vision, you're really only focused on a small area in the middle of your vision .. their face, eyes, lips, etc ... in order to look at the eyes, you have to stop looking at the hair, or nose or lips. We are only able to focus on a small area at a time. Truth is, everything else is blurred out. Their hair, clothing, background, etc. This is why when doing a portrait painting, they teach you to have a focal point and then soften the edges, form and background. Great video as always.
Beautiful Sakura pics!! I wish I knew those tips before the sakura season lol Maybe next year! I always wanna take a pic of Sakura petals falling in the wind like snow cuz it looks beautiful in the eye but never caught on the camera... Any advise on that?😁
I also would like to know how to properly get the falling petals in focus. It looks like snow and is so magical! I saw the Sakura season twice in japan and am dying to see it again. So beautiful!
Really helpful tips! I already use the lightroom app and it has made a big difference in photo quality. We don't have cherry blossom trees nearby but I think this info will be useful for other things I shoot.
I have the same camera! Trying to learn as much as I can to take some good travel photos! Awesome tips! Thank you 😊 Also thanks for the insta Q and A the other day! That was cool!
Amazing video and tips!!! I use a lot of these tricks already whilst during photography. Especially during the Cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons.
Great tips. I'm a big fan of the vertical panorama for capturing landmarks and tourist sites that are tall and detailed. For example, the Campanile in Plaza San Marco in Venice. I never thought about using it for flowers. Intriguing
Awesome video!! You're an amazing teacher - I was wondering if someday you could make a b-roll tutorial video? Like tips on how to take scenic and cool shots, I'd love to learn that sort of thing :)
Thank you Photography Guru Norm for your words of wisdom ^_^ I quite enjoy doing macro photography on plants I love the half in focus and half out of focus. They make the most gorgeous photos
Hoping to be able to use these tips on the next spring here in Australia. Missed 2 cherry blossom festival due to Covid restrictions, but hopefully, next year the sakura trees are bigger and will have more beautiful flowers. Thank you for the tips!
Thanks for the tips, Norm. Although there aren't any sakura trees around my area, these tips are definitely helpful! I'm trying to motivate my boyfriend to take more photos this year, and I hope this video will help him get motivated, too.
Honestly thank you so much for this video, I actually had no Idea about locking the focus of exposure on an iPhone omg this is really going to up my photo game!
Hot damn! Always look forward to your vids man. Said it once, will say it again. You are one of the best content creators in Japan. Love your stuff, learned a lot - Tyler
I know I always say this, but this was a really great video and from the content also one I haven't seen so far. I love that you explained to us how to get some really nice pictures. I love taking picture of sakura and since I am in Germany, I hope the sakura in my garden will bloom soon. It is still a young tree, but I will try to get some nice shots again this year. It is so much fun watching it grow, you have no idea haha
I know I always say THIS, but I really am happy to have you here~ Thank you so much! You should do one picture per year of the tree from the same spot and do a multi-year timelapse!!
that is a great idea! In the past years I did that, but maybe not always from the same spot. You know what I'd love? Hanging out with you when I go back to Tokyo and take pics of Sakura together haha
Once the sakura bloom in Hokkaido I'll be trying to capture a photo of the Japanese white eye bird within the tree. Of course I'll only have one day to do this since I'm prioritize visiting Honshu during Hokkaido's cherry blossom season. It better be worth it to miss the cherry blossom season!
i'm ready for something exciting! i've been wanting to find an app for editing photos since my camera no longer works and i'm downloading lightroom right now, thankyou so much!~
Pardon my French, but gahdamn my American ass is shook! The Sakura are beautiful, your tips were helpful for taking bomb ass selfies as well 😂 and once again your content is aesthetically beautiful.
Thank you for the video! Hopefully I'll catch some cherry blossoms in Shimane in a couple days and Matsumoto later on so I can try out these tips. By the way, I love the scene changes you do.
Hi Norm!! I’m finally in Japan and seeing the sakura trees everywhere just makes my heart full💖💖 Thank you so much for the tips and I can’t believe I forgot to try Panaroma!!!! Totally gonna do it soon!!! I’m currently in Hiroshima and its SO BEAUTIFUL HERE!!! I would love to share with u my photos of the Sakura tho. Hope u wouldn’t mind if i send u some over on ig!
Tokyo Lens I definitely am! Now I’m in Kyoto and it’s raining ☔️ I think its the first rain since the sakura season started? Btw, I’ve tried the Panorama and its been really helpful in taking full shots!! Yay! I’ll send some soon!
Uuuh I think this is the first video with you talking about photography and giving out some tips - I like it! 📸 (Also I think this might be the birth of your catchphrase that you say at the end of every video in the future 😁)
Wow, that was a great video Norm!! I swear, you’ve got such and artistic eye, your compositions are always so interesting. I’m sure your tips will be a great help people for who aren’t familiar with photography, they’re simple and easy to follow. It’s kind of like a fool proof recipe for a great shot. Thanks for sharing! 😊❤️🌸
this was sooo helpful! thanks man! I have a love hate relationship with Sakura because I'm really allergic to their pollen but I think they are SOOOOOO beautiful! fantastic video!!!
Hi Norm, I did a 180 degree laying on the ground at the Reno Balloon Races of a lift off in panarama. I did dawn patrol on the ground shooting up. I got the balloon fire! The panaramic of a moving balloon skipped a bit but showed motion. Please what Iso for shooting do you prefer? and for filming? I'm using corel software. Adobe online didn't work here in rural Hawaii. I like macro photos too. Sunset is cool & reflections off water is pretty. It's fun even on a city street at night. I'm learning the GH4. 3/4 sensor is different for me verses way back in the day in film. What are you favorite settings and I'll see if they work on the Panasonic. Day, & low light. Still &video. You're awesome! loved the video. Still sick in bed. The Merry Monarch Hula Festival is on this week. Hoping to get out. Mahalo! take care, Kai
Kai, great to see you here mate~ ISO really depends on the lighting I like to stick as low as possible wherever possible. and my settings 100% depend on the scene and the shot im trying to get~ Hope you can get out and have a great time! Thanks so much as always~
Some excellent tips!! Do you sell your prints? I wold absolutely love to buy a digital copy of some of the sakura, my husband loves them and it would make such a lovely present for him. We are over in Scotland and don't have them like this at all! Plus i'm a very very basic photographer and videographer so couldn't take anything that good at all! Oh, and are you missing Sharla? :)
Ack, that fingerprint right on the lens at the start. Painful! lol Perfect video. I'll be in Japan again next year at this time and this should help. I hit sakura season a few years back and got some nice shots but this should help me up my game even further.
Thanks so much for the tips - gonna have to get my daughter to watch this later - she's been doing photography for the past few years and I think these tips might be of help to her - if she doesn't know them already. She wants to be a zoologist, but has photography as a just in case ^_^ Also, thanks for the tips on the iphone, I didn't know about holding the screen to "lock" it in place or the lighting thing. Definitely need to try that next time ^_^
Tokyo Lens thanks ^_^ She did get some new ideas from the video. She has a portfolio website that she’s working on, but is iffy about sharing - she has high anxiety, so putting things like that out there is a little scary for her. Her photography teacher has access obviously. When she lets me I’ll DM you on Twitter. My twitter and Instagram are the same user name as on here. I’ll tag you in a few of my newer ones, please let me know what you think ^_^
Nr 9 As mentioned in Nr 3 my first trip to Japan will most likely be during the summer so no Sakura for me this time but i will for sure take pictures. I just recently bought my first Camera (Nikon D3500) and its obviously a beginner-level camera but with enough practice and tips like those mentioned in the video (sakura or not...you can probably project them to other scenarios) maybe my pictures will also capture the beauty of Japan :)
Really nice tips! I've always been into photography and when going out somewhere new I always take pictures. Recently bought myself a good Canon camera and just waiting until I can use it since Calgary is just mushy brown snow ugly town at the moment LOL. Plus I live in the middle of nowhere and don't get much inspiration with everything looking dead, haha.
I recommend checking out Alan Palander - His style of photography can definitely give you some tips on capturing Calgary in a new light, and his instagram stories are always full of tips and tricks that I think you will love
How does one person seem to enhance every aspect of my life right now? Both artistically, and inspirationally. A wealth of knowledge, and a joy to follow. Thank You. I hope I can return that to you or someone else someday.
Great advice dude. I took some photos in Ueno park 3 years ago and ended up using people as part of the shots as it was way too crowded. Just sent you one of the pics on Twitter, hope you like.
Man, you're wanting to get me back into photography hardcore. Also, a lot of these "rules" are meant to be broken, so play around with it! photography is so much fun TnT i need to find my camera again.
What a nice an unexpected video, I love the vertical panorama pic! I have a question, lets imagine that I want to take pic from the inside of the tree but in a higher level... Is it allow to climb the tree just a bit?
Who's ready for me to share something Exciting with you (for you!) this week?
Tokyo Lens Can’t wait ! Also forgot to mention but I’m glad you talk about using a phone camera on top of an actual camera , thanks Norm !
Those sakura photos are beautiful!!!
Sure am !!! and thanks for the tips and wow, your photos were beautiful, and those vertical panorama were incredible! And I'm curious, Do you ever do exposition of your pictures ?!
The video title is cheating. It said 5 tips but I got at least 5 tips in each and every tip. Thanks for the UNIQUE video!
haha yea. I guess... 5 categories of tips. I just couldn't stop!!!! (^-^)
Thank you, Molly~
Nicely done...and vertical panoramas are great...they print out like scroll hangings. 😉
This is useful not only for Sakura photography but any photography in general! Thanks!
Thanks for the helpful tips. These translate well to all photography. 😃
So pretty i was at that park yesterday morning strolling thru looking at what's left of the sakura. I love how you take the time to explain things so us simpletons can understand.
I definitely want it to be easy to digest for anyone
Hidden comment section secret: I actually made this video for my little sister who is really into photography but a super beginner. Wanted to give her something to get her going when the flowers start to bloom in Canada!
Can we say "Toronto Lens" or is that too premature (or "Little Tokyo Lens in Toronto" ?? Hmmmmm)
The quality of this video is so clear and sharp and love the colours Norm👍🌸
All of this. Your composition of film shots is just as gorgeous, especially the drone shots.
This was exactly what I was looking for while researching photographing cherry blossoms! Thanks for these tips!
Good one Norm!
Took me back to college photography lol
You always ROCK!
Thanks, Julie~

So lovely and asthetic watching the petals fall
I have been getting more and more into taking pictures. Oddly enough my favorite camra is my polaroid camera.
Aw hell yeah dude!!! 😆, I've been waiting for my fix 😁 I love what you do 😄
Thanks so much!!
Subscribed!
Thx for this learned something new again!

Thanks man~
Always love seeing you here!
You're the best. I'm not in Japan for sakura season but Imma try your tips in Toronto when they bloom! Thanks for the great video :D
I've always loved the sakura in High Park! Let me know if you get anything good!
Beautiful Sakura pics!! I wish I knew those tips before the sakura season lol Maybe next year!
I always wanna take a pic of Sakura petals falling in the wind like snow cuz it looks beautiful in the eye but never caught on the camera... Any advise on that?😁
SherryBerry in Ehime i was going to write that question too! I like falling petals! They're so pretty
I also would like to know how to properly get the falling petals in focus. It looks like snow and is so magical! I saw the Sakura season twice in japan and am dying to see it again. So beautiful!
Gotta go for Manual focus, and for good measure, I recommend recording at 60+fps!
Wow ! Thanks for those elements that help elevate a photo!💖💕🐰
Really helpful tips! I already use the lightroom app and it has made a big difference in photo quality. We don't have cherry blossom trees nearby but I think this info will be useful for other things I shoot.
Tried to make it applicable to a wider set of photography needs, so hopefully you can use these tips for something!
Great video!! Love the “b-roll” of sakura in this video

Amazing video and tips!!!
I use a lot of these tricks already whilst during photography. Especially during the Cherry blossom and autumn foliage seasons.
Awesome! Thank you, Kari (^-^)
Great tips. I'm a big fan of the vertical panorama for capturing landmarks and tourist sites that are tall and detailed. For example, the Campanile in Plaza San Marco in Venice. I never thought about using it for flowers. Intriguing

High park is a great place once the trees bloom!!
Tokyo Lens but so many people... I found other places with Sakura , heh
Hoping to be able to use these tips on the next spring here in Australia. Missed 2 cherry blossom festival due to Covid restrictions, but hopefully, next year the sakura trees are bigger and will have more beautiful flowers. Thank you for the tips!

-Tyler
Never thought of doing vertical panoramas before. Only ones I've done are horizontal ones at Tokyo station and Yokohama. Gotta try that next trip.
Que bonito todo!! Tienes muchas suerte de poder ver las sakuras❤🌸 tienes mi apoyo a tu canal 😘😘😘
Thank you so much!! I'm so grateful to have your support, and glad you love the sakura as much as I do.
Keep up the beautiful work on your channel!
I know I always say THIS, but I really am happy to have you here~
Thank you so much!
You should do one picture per year of the tree from the same spot and do a multi-year timelapse!!
that is a great idea! In the past years I did that, but maybe not always from the same spot. You know what I'd love? Hanging out with you when I go back to Tokyo and take pics of Sakura together haha
Great tips
Thanks soooo much for this! I'll be going to Osaka, Kyoto on Saturday morning so this really helped! ^_^
Let me know if you get any good shots!!
Thanks this is really useful Information.
unfortunately I missed out on these tips for this year's trip but next trip, for sure! Thank you!!!

ISO really depends on the lighting
I like to stick as low as possible wherever possible.
and my settings 100% depend on the scene and the shot im trying to get~
Hope you can get out and have a great time! Thanks so much as always~
Mahalo!
I definititely need to learn way more about editing videos 😅 amazing shots, Norm! I will make a good use of your tips :)
One of my favorite videos now!

Great tips and info Norm ! I’m gonna download Lightroom rn and play around with it .
What PC editing software do you use ?
Thanks so much for the tips - gonna have to get my daughter to watch this later - she's been doing photography for the past few years and I think these tips might be of help to her - if she doesn't know them already. She wants to be a zoologist, but has photography as a just in case ^_^
Also, thanks for the tips on the iphone, I didn't know about holding the screen to "lock" it in place or the lighting thing. Definitely need to try that next time ^_^

Always so kind, mate~ Thank you so much! Just wait till you see what I have coming next!
Great advice dude. I took some photos in Ueno park 3 years ago and ended up using people as part of the shots as it was way too crowded. Just sent you one of the pics on Twitter, hope you like.
Saw that on twitter! Loved it~
I would watch an editing tips tutorial of yours if you wanted to do one :) This was great
Sounds like a great idea (^-^)
Changing the camera settings on Android is simple too. I use it all the time with my Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge.
I woulnd't recommend it. Many areas actually have signs up that say "Please do not touch the trees"
Tokyo Lens yeah, I kind of supposed but I had to ask 🤷
