Let's Play The Settlers: New Allies! I've played quite a few of the Settlers games over the years and always enjoyed them. They always felt a lot different than RTS games of their time and I appreciated that. I was super stoked to see that new one was on the horizon and even more so that I get a chance to showcase it! Let's see how amazing I can make my settlement...or amazingly terrible. No promises either way! Adventure awaits!

I think the forester grows trees for you to chop down like in the earlier installments which should indicate you don't always have regrowing forests available

This is one of the worst introductions to a story I have ever seen; they literally explained nothing, no enemy, no villain, no real objective; they just packed up and ran with the diversity character just wanting to save her own hide. freaking hilarious. This is 100% just another mediocre ubisoft game.

A nameless army comes, your own military turns against you, and you have people who are attempting to save as many civilians as possible, before they are overrun. The de facto leader wanted to stay and stay and try to save every single person, but you can't do that. If you try, you end up not saving anyone. The cartographer had the right of it. They had to leave or no one would be saved.
Often times good men will sacrifice everyone in order to try to save everyone, instead of having to leave people behind to save who they could. There was no fighting the battle and winning. The cartographer made the right call and the hard decision. If the guild master wasn't distraught over having lost people and not being able to save everyone, as the person who was leading, then he wouldn't be much of a good guy. I agree the cartographer could have shown a bit of remorse, but she's grateful to be alive, and grateful for all that they did save.
Sorry you don't like the story or how things were handled but, I see no problem with it. It might be a bit vague in parts, but I imagine if a giant army landed on your land and they didn't announce themselves and just immediately started running down your people, plus your military joins them, having conspired against you... I feel like you'd have fled too. They did a fine job explaining what you needed to know and get you on your way. Big invading army was your enemy, and your objective: escape and start a new life elsewhere. Not sure what more you need to know. If we eventually learn who invaded, battle them down the road, and reclaim our lands. Great. If we are just destitute people now, trying to rebuild our lives on this new "world" and we have to deal with the struggles and challenges that brings, never seeing or hearing of the invaders again, that's okay too. :)
I never understand the random, unexplained hate people throw at Ubisoft. They make fun games, nearly every one I've played I've enjoyed and had fun playing. Different people like different things I suppose. Also, if this is another "mediocre" Ubisoft game, the implication that "all" or "many" of their games are "mediocre", then I'll be absolutely gobsmacked if they manage to make a "good" one, because their mediocre is already better than MANY games out there. :) No reason to be so negative.
