I though that I was going to see a lot more sharks while scuba diving, but sharks are more scarce than 500 euro notes, you will make a party when you see one, even a little one.
here’s an idea- how about we demo skills while neutral… ya know, so we don’t instill bad habits/ideas… and also so that they are, in fact easier? furthermore… why don’t we ditch this particular skill altogether because encouraging folks to seperate themselves from their life support system is kinda crazy.
Thanks for your valuable comment! We understand your approach and share the same vision that all skills should be executed in neutral buoyancy. However, from a training approach, we usually teach skills in a controllable environment like a pool/confined water first where the impact on the environment is minimal and beginner students have the chance to practice in a stable position first. Later, training skills get more refined and will be repeated in neutral buoyancy in the open water. The skill videos are meant to show the students which skills they are going to learn in their next pool session, therefore we show those kneeking on the ground at first, but later on skills like no mask swim are shown in a neutrally buoyant position, which is correct from the learning approach. Be assured that we follow our own Blue Oceans code where SSI commits to execute sustainable diving practices and protects the environment as much as possible.
@@ssi_international i understand that you think that’s somehow more ‘stable’, but in reality this skill and most of the others for that matter, are better executed and easier to do from a trim position, even if the students aren’t perfectly neutral. aside from that aspect, shouldn’t we be providing content for students to aspire to?
@@alexfraser6015 The skill is learned to increase handling and familiarity with the equipment on the one hand and to be able to help a partner underwater if necessary.
Most student divers would end up in a complete fustercluck if they tried to get this right while neutral. As a basic beginner open water dive skill it would be nothing more than a stress load and unnecessary. Most newbies have shit buoyancy until they get some experience. I’m getting fucking sick of the wankers in this sport. It’s just recreational diving. Not commercial or military. Take a fuckin chill pill and relax. I’m an instructor.
I notice in this video when the diver puts her BC back on, she does shoulder straps > waist buckle > chest buckle. In the other SSI video "putting on your dive gear" she does waist buckle > shoulder straps > chest buckle. Is this because it's on land vs at depth? Which is correct?
Can the cylinder actually be switched underwater?
I've seen a guy putting all and switching cylinders underwater, requires skill, skill that I don't have
