He is one of the best rappers ever and rarely uses profanity. I've been a fan since I was in H.S. He still got it, and he's well into his 50s. I saw him a few years ago. Go down this rabbit hole. You won't be disappointed.

Rakim, Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap are the architects of modern multisyllabic style rhyming. They represent the next era post Run DMC and the iconic late 70s/early 80s emcees. Basically the updated blueprint for Nas, Jay, Andre, Thought, etc.

I'd say Rakim and Big Daddy Kane and Kool G Rap transitioned to the 90,s style that is still prominent in hip hop.
The summer going into my Senior year of high school(1988-89). My cousin had it on vinyl. We would stop it to trip off of each line. I recorded it on a 90 minute Maxell cassette tape. I still have the tape!

A lot of people don't realize how important Rakim is to rap, before him rappers were just throwing out simple rhyme patterns, basic Cat, hat , bat basic math, then Rakim came and dropped calculus on us, nobody had ever herd anyone like this before, it was a complete evolution in rap, he lyrics were hard but he never swore. do yourself a solid and listen to Lyrics of Fury, he explains the panic attack other rappers have going against him in rap battles. one of his best songs in my opinion , but with Rakim, you can't miss your going hear something amazing.
He only had 4 albums, by his 3rd he cemented himself as one of the greatest, he birthed guys like Eminem, jay-Z, Tupac, Biggie, NAS, all of them have Rakim as one of their favorites, and they all emulate him to some degree. Every industry has someone who comes along and just fundamentally changes everything, For rap Rakim was the first evolution after it's inception
