You mentioned that you changed out the grow lights mounted to the shelves in your office. Any chance on a video about that? The natural light in my apartment isn't perfect and I'd love to do something similar!
Neem, a bit of Dawn dish soap, and filtered water in a spray bottle. Just wish Neem smelled nicer. Food grade diatamasious soil on top of the soil helps. The food grade diatamasious soil must remain dry to work. So spinkle it on top of the soil between waterings. Those knats are aliens spying on us. Lol. We must keep a sense of humor regarding those pests. Lady bugs will devour them. We use to release them in our community garden. They eat many more times their weight of the invasive insects non beneficial insects. Not to mention the fact that if a lady bugl lands on you . . . you will have amazing good luck . . . and no invadive critters around you! Love your videos and passion for your leaf babies!
RIP Alocasia Sting Ray - I will miss you! Helloooooooo New Obliqa Leaves!!! Beautiful new flat - love all of the light! Congrats on the move and on the opening of therareplantshop! When shipping to US isn't as risky I'll be ordering from your shop! Have a great weekend!
Most likely your grow lights are too weak, too far or the giving wrong part of the spectrum, I've had similar problems. I have a Golden Pothos that is like a light measuring tool over time, it's under some grow lights with other plants, you can see the leaves are much greener from when the lights were too far. The newer leaves are bigger and variegated like cray. Don't forget the inverse square law when working with light, you might need a lot more to trick them into variegating (is that a word?) I know you know all this, it's just, sometimes, it's good to read it from someone else, i guess. Also, "The room where -it- nothing happens" will be full of shelves and grow lights in, like, 3 months, won't it, uh? Won't. it. Kaylee.
I’m not expert but I’m wondering if the light in the biorb plus natural light is and/or was too much for some of the plants in there. The b. Pavonina is a deep shade plant, and I’m wondering if some of the others prefer more shade?
Hi Kaylee, for your gnats you should get Mosquito Bits, soak them in water overnight and then water the plants with them. You can also put some in a spray bottle and spray the soil in the BiOrb every couple of days. That will take care of the fungus gnat problem pretty quickly.
Your new apartment is stunning!! I recently had an aphid problem on my bonsai tree & I found a few lady birds in the garden & they had a feast! After a few days I released them back outside & sprayed a neem oil & castor soap mix onto it & it’s killed them all 😊
Have you tried adding hydrogen peroxide to your water? That kills the larvae in the soil on contact. Then the yellow traps will take care of the live ones. It dramatically helped my gnat problem!
I've tried that and it didn't help at all - the only way I managed to get rid of them from all my plants without hurting the plants themselves was to use steinernema feltiae
Try Mosquito Bits for the fungus gnats. You can sprinkle them in the soil. They have a bacterium that stops the gnats at the early stages of development.
Hoya dont like a lot of light as long as you have atleast medium she will do just fine! I have one and have had it for years! The tendrils will sometimes have either leaves or blooms and leaves. Never cut the tendrils off after it blooms because more blooms will grow in is place after the old ones drop also, don't move it when it blooms! Well wishes with your hoya! They are very easy to keep and i have lots of different and rare varieties of hoyas. Love the video and your new apartment! I can't wait until you're able to ship to the United States,!
I personally love seeing people's plants and where they keep them in their homes, and house/apartment tours. I did one and combined it with info about owning a greyhound and got called a 'show off old lady...sad' by someone! Don't you just love the haters! I enjoyed your video and have been binge watching your channel all day while I'm at home from work today. I already have too many plants, but now I want more :D
Pleeeeeeease try and source some Aglaonema Pictum Tricolour! You have a gorgeous selection of plants in the shop again - I got a Reflector and Dubia and they both arrived thirsty but happy! 😊
I'm currently living in the UK and I have also had a problem with gnats (something that I had never heard of in Australia). What has worked best for me is to wrap those sticky fly strips around some coffee cans or something similar and nestle them among my plants. It completely wiped them out and I don't need to worry about quarantining any new plants I buy.
Try BTI for the fungus gnats, if you can. It's a bacteria that specifically kills pests like mosquitoes and fungus gnats, and won't affect anything else. I just put it into my water and go about things as usual (although mine comes in a sawdust-like mix, so I strain it after steeping it in my water).
a small drosera or sundew will be great! they eat all the gnats in my grow room. Drosera Adelae is perfect for a steamy bio orb too. it will take care of any pests on an ongoing manner
I’ve been looking forward to this!! Re the monstera sp peru, I have one and the new leaves will really keep you holding your breath. It will take a while before they show the real varigation. For a while they will really look quite green 😬💚
I find that leaf dripping in any philodendron, alocasia and even other more sensitive sort of plants is normal when you move them to a new space. For example I had a alocasia zebrina that I bought and put in my room but figured there wasn't enough light and moved it to my living room to boost the amount of light it was getting and it had a hissy fit and dropped 3 leaves before growing a new one. And I also bought seedlings online of the zebrina Tigrina stingray and lauterbachiana which all dropped at least 1 leaf when I unboxed them and potted them up. So losing a leaf here or there weather it's an old leaf or a leaf dropping off prematurely is normal when moving them into new spaces
What a shame that your couch is taking up the best window in your new flat, maybe move the couch out a foot and get a 12 inch long table behind the couch so you could still have your favorite plants. Or put the couch against the wall where you have the TV, put the TV diagonal between the window and the patio door. Manchester , that's where they filmed the show "Last of the Summer Wine"..I loved that show, and I would love to visit Manchester England. You have a great view, I hope you have a telescope..LOL!
U're restraint is impressive. While I love the idea of a lot of plants. They're so much more architecturally interesting to me when they're allowed to stand alone or with fewer grouping.
Congrats on your new home 🏡 Fab tour! Made me laugh when I saw the ladybird as I have put 4 of them in my biOrb this week... think they look cute in there 😁🐞💚🌿
"Downsizing" Your Plant family is a natural progression of a Lover of Your Existing Collection. (Especially if U have more than a few of "rare" Beauties.) 🌿💚
Have you tried beneficial nematodes for the gnat issue? They're microscopic and live in the soil, so you'd never see them, and they are not at all harmful to the plant. They seek out and kill fungus gnat larvae in the soil (in a pretty neat but morbid, parasitic way) which breaks the life cycle and doesn't give them a chance to become adults with wings. Not sure how long it takes to wipe them all out, but I've heard of people having really great success with that.
The soil can have an effect on colour variation of the leaves, depending on whether it is more acidic or alkaline. I noticed many of the plant soil was quite dry. In the tropics they tend to have heaps of rain and then dry out.....I'd probably water them a bit more, especially as they've been under the stress of moving homes. Love your videos and your plants are just beautiful.
Where did you get those plant shelves in your office. I want them. Also, mosquito bits(see amazon) are great for killing fungus gnats. Or grow a garlic where they are found
I have been watching you ever since I got int plants and I have watched so much and I am sooooo excited watching that hecking obliqua grow. I love it so much, it's adorable and on top of that I am able to enjoy it through your channel. I know I most likely will never have one, but I must admit I think a goal I have in my goal in my plant life is to one day get one, now I am just eighteen now so I have a while to go, a lot to learn, but for now, I am just as content seeing it grow well with you.
I love how minimal you are with your collection (compared to most of the plant people on youtube). So many amazing plants without clutter. The apartment is gorgeous as well!
Congratulations on your new home! Your plants are all so stunning, such a great collection. I have a variegated monstera that looks the same age as yours (August last year it was a plug with 3-4 tiny leaves), now it has 3 large leaves and the 4th one is unfurling with it's first split! 😁 Fingers crossed it happens in your next one
Hi have you thought about sprinkling diatomaceous on your plants? I have a gnat problem too, and I just bought some diatomaceous. I’m going to give it a try today.
I'm pretty sure it is from IKEA, the unit is called Vittsjö in some countries they are also available in White. I'm also buying one of the the double units as well to place infront of a double window that would get the morning sun. I live in Australia, so there is no way I can put much in direct sunlight without burning them. I do have vertical blinds in my windows which means I can regulate the amount of sun that gets through.
Hi Kaylee! I was wondering where you got the shelves in your office with the led lights? I'm trying to make a similar setup in my apartment since it's so dark and I love how yours look! TIA💕
I'm loving your new apartment. So far all of your plants look like they are adjusting pretty well to the move. The Biorb is one of my favorites.Obliqua you lovely lil thing. I was thinking of getting some ladybugs to help with mealy bugs as well. Thanks for sharing😊👍❤.
Looks so nice! I hear Hoya carnosa krimson princess is so hard to come by in the US and various other places, I've seen them all over in Sweden and Norway since spring..!
I’d love to hear more about how you downsized your collection, did you sell them on your shop or give them away? I am looking to do the same but struggling as I don’t have many friends/extended who have or want plants? 🤷🏻♀️
The most successful way I have dealt with gnats is with carnivorous plants. If your orb will allow it, maybe plant a sundew? They need a boggy environment but they are hungry and will thrive on gnats. :)

Hey could you please do a video about indoor grow lights that are affordable and that actually work in a house or a smaller place for people without loads of room
I would SO love to learn about how you built your shelves and what the new lights you are using are and why you changed them. How did you know they were the wrong ones? Kaylee Ellen - I also heard you apologize if the growth pattern of the Monstera was a trigger for anyone and I am curious about why that would be a trigger (I always appreciate learning about what might be a problem for some and why so I know how to avoid causing anyone distress). I appreciate you sharing - thank you!
The orb needs to be 10 times bigger before winter.
Shoulda moved into an orb. A giant orb. An orbpartment.
I need for orbpartments to be a thing
You mentioned that you changed out the grow lights mounted to the shelves in your office. Any chance on a video about that? The natural light in my apartment isn't perfect and I'd love to do something similar!
Seconding this! I’d love a video about that
yesssssssss that glass shelf though
I agree, a video would be really useful.
You are so fun to listen to, i could listen to you ramble on about plants all day! 💚
I have a fungal gnat issue every few months. I find putting a few drops of neem oil into my watering can helps kill them off pretty quickly!
Kaylee Claire really!? I’ll need to try this! The gnat traps are not doing the trick
Nematodes have always slaughtered my gnats. I highly recommend them.
You can also add hydrogen peroxide!

Beautiful plants and appartment! Please keep us updated on the new lights! I am looking to duplicate your shelving unit eventually! 🤞🤞
Yes, please Kaylee!
Sad not to see the orbifolia and stingray 😪
I highly recommend a butterwort or two for the gnats. They are easy and flower as well as eat gnats like mad. :) lovely new place!

Agree….This works good to kill the knots in the larval stage, and keep using the yellow traps for the fly stage.
Like the tour a lot. My Ellen, my daughter, has just bought her first apartment in Stockholm, so I just recommended this tour to her 😜👍
Your new apartment is stunning!! I recently had an aphid problem on my bonsai tree & I found a few lady birds in the garden & they had a feast! After a few days I released them back outside & sprayed a neem oil & castor soap mix onto it & it’s killed them all 😊

Mosquito Bits from Amazon! They are made to combat fungus gnats too. My gnats were gone the next day and I haven't seen any since.
Try putting in a butterwort (genus Pinguicula) in the biorb. Found it to be the most effective against gnats.

I have hoya at work and it stinks so much when it blooms! With that I don't understand the love for them. Maybe not all do it?
Not all of them stink some smell quite nice if you don't like the smell just snip the bugs off teehee
What kind of grow lights do you have for your tower? I like the white light rather than purple
