Honestly my favorite (Actual) universal monster film would be “Murders in the rue morgue” because… 1. It’s an adaptation of my favorite poe story. 2. A gorilla makes any film a little bit more enjoyable for me and this film has a gorilla alright. 3. Dr. Mirakle was played greatly by Lugosi. And 4. Some parts of the film can actually be pretty chilling, even to a modern audience.
Great video! Yeah, when I see people posting stuff on UM pages that doesn't belong there, it does feel a little weird. I love the Monsters, but zombie and slasher stuff from the late 60s onward literally make me sick. Haha I often wonder, though, why King Kong feels so at home with the Universal Monsters, and why some people think he is part of the gang, even though he isn't one. I guess cause of Mad Monster Party, Universal distributing the two Toho films and Peter Jackson's Kong being produced at Universal might have something to do with it. I'm a big ol' hypocrite when it comes to him and the UM, cause I don't mind when I see him posted in groups on the topic, but stuff like slashers in the same space is mildly annoying haha Anyway, enough rambling. This was a cool video, and I agree with you :)
Thanks! Historically, King Kong and March's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde get lumped in with the Universal Monsters because they're the most iconic non-Universal Monsters from the 1930's. Also, Island of Lost Souls and The Monster and the Girl get thrown in because Universal picked up the home video rights. Overall, it's the 1930sness of them that gets them fitting together.
Thumbs up for pronouncing Dr. Jekyll's name correctly!! Most people don't know, but Stevenson was insistent that his name had a long-e vowel sound. I know it's a losing battle, but I still feel compelled to point that little fact out on any video that mentions Dr J & Mr H...
Well classic and modern in other words Universal monsters classic & universal monsters two worlds from the same world sorta 🤣 love the video and topic!!!

The canon Universal Classic Monster franchise are the 30 films that are included in the Blu-ray/DVD 30 film Universal Classic Monster collection.
I must disagree, that collection leaves out many important movies
@@willo.1931such as?
I Loved so many of these movies, still have a few to see! Toho and the Hammer films are also pretty Great!
No franchise begins as a franchise.
Tell SONY

Once I found it out, I made sure to try and use it as best I can. Sometimes "Jeck-ill" comes out, but I try to be conscious of saying "Jee-kill" 😄

Who is Dr. Jeekel?
That's the proper pronunciation of Dr. Jekyll. It's even used IN the 1931 version.
