I knew the day you told us about the garden you were discouraged but I also knew you would pray and regain strength to overcome and conquer. Cannot wait to see the harvest.
Constance I'm so happy you were able to change out your garden beds and add more. You're a very hard working woman. Continued blessings sweetheart 🤗💓💕💞
With your faith and resilience I knew you would be rising above the garden situation 🙏❤️. Keep up the great work dear❣️ God's rich blessings upon you and your family🙏💖
So glad you have your garden nearly like new. I am going to make a cinder block asparagus bed like yours with the flowers and herbs around the edge. How nice! Glad to see you smiling again! God cares about all our little trials and he will give us what we need to get thru every situation.
Ah, that spider would be a game changer for me. Did you know you had them there? Due to your hard work the garden is coming together. May hope, love, and joy fill the beds.❤
I had forgotten about it until we saw the first one last year. They don't really bother us, and they're so big they are easy to spot. We are more freaked out by the scorpions 😱
@CosmopolitanCornbread Oh. My. Goodness. When you said close your eyes if creepies bother you.....I felt like you were talking to me. I should have closed my eyes!!! Did you hear me gasp? You are waaaaay braver than I am!!!! Also, I'm super proud of you that you are tackling these gardens. ❤
I'm so happy to see you back in the saddle again, Constance! God is our constant source of strength in times of setback, eh? Good idea to undo the bed edges and get in there with your biggest Shovel...it's worked well. Those spiders are interesting... but you can keep them all for yourself, dear... our wolf spiders are similar, but a bit smaller, and Quite Enough For Me, thanks! Same with your rat snake... all yours! I'm glad your cat didn't go for either... God bless. Love, hugs and prayers continuing.... 🙂👍❤🫂✝️🐈
Thank you for sharing this update on your garden. I know it was a lot of work, but you look so much happier than you did a couple of videos ago. Have to say, I don't care for creepy crawlers, but they do serve a purpose. I just give them a wide berth! Constance, you set such a good example for all of us on how to handle adversity. All the best to you and yours. 🙏🏻❤️
What a brilliant idea to remove the raised bed walls and plow away the bad soil. So much less work And no offense to the rat snake, but the tarantula is beautiful. And thanks, bc until i saw her, I realised i never considered where they live. Off to the books! Edit: i always thought tarantulas lived out west, esp in desert areas. This is true However! There is also the Arkansas Tarantula. The one crossing the road was a girl, youll see the boys more in the fall, and their legs are darker So cool! Thanks again
I adore the idea of painting t-posts. I may have to do that! My garden is incredible this year. I get so many great ideas from you! Thank you for all you do!
Okay, that's it!!! Everytime I think maybe I could move to Arkansas and be close to my relatives there, you remind me of the snakes, spiders, and tornadoes that I'd have to live with. Grateful it's you there, and not me. 😊
Yep... 😂 I knew you'd take this bull of a problem by the horns and wrestle it right to the ground 💪🏻 Lookin great sis! 🌱 I think it's going to be better than before! 😁🌸
It's looking good thank to you & Mr. Smith & lots of hard work. God is blessing your hands at everything you set them to do. Thanks for sharing the good & the not so good.
SE Kansas, NE Oklahoma have some crazy tarantula migrations, I remember going to my Grandmas as a kid, and will never forget the crunch driving on the highways. I love how you just kept on trucking after this setback.
Regarding the use of cinder blocks in the oklahoma, missouri, Arkansas Ozarks , our experience was that plants dried out due to wicking during the heat of the summer. Also, those blocks get really hot absorbing sunlight during that same time. I strongly recommend concrete blocks be avoided for either planting within or using as a berm or barrier
I live in far southwest TX which also gets extremely hot during the summer and since night time temperatures stay really high, we would pull lots of mulch up around the sides of the cinder blocks which keeps the heat gain down considerably. We would also use drips for our plants, mulch deeply around the plants and even use ollas buried in the beds around the plants to provide extra moisture to negate some of the wicking from the perimeter of the beds. We did not plant in the cinder block holes. Just in the centers of the beds. The holes were covered with more mulch.
Hi Constance. You have achieved so much! Grazon will not Stop you.. I am so proud of your progress! Yay! You will have your garden this yr! No spiders for me…❤🙏🙏🙏Blessing’s
So glad to see you healing your garden. I’ve been praying that for you. I love your cinderblock garden! What a nice idea! I’m sure that made you happy! Your garden will be back to normal before you know it! It’s still early in the season especially in the mountains!😘❤🙏🏻✨ By the way my daughter had a tarantula pet for many years, really creeped me out!😖
Oh my word, I didn’t know tarantulas were in Arkansas!! 😳 Love the garden so far! You are inspiring me!! I love the cinder block bed too!! I’m going to do that around my chicken coop!🐓🌱
Looking good again. It will be beautiful. Can't wait to see all the sunflowers and other flowers. I love the idea of painting the t-posts..never thought of that. Now I'm thinking about painting my berry t-posts. Great idea. My daughter had tarantulas in California Valley - for two to three weeks, they were thick by the hundreds on the roads, all over the property, on your patios, crawling up the outside walls of the house...was quite creepy (unless , of course, you are a real spider lover.) And cats and dogs love to play with them....they would bring them inside if they could.
We discovered similar soil damage last year. Grew zucchini as well. Leaves grew well, but plants didn't produce like we expect. It was very rainy last year though so that could be a factor. Anxious to see how your plants turn out this year. Again, sorry you are dealing with this as well. At least we can learn from each other as we go. I let most of my garden sit fallow this year so it can rest. Grasses are taking over. I figure if i keep pulling them and disposing of the root masses it may help. Next year tons of sunflowers. I dont have the funds to remove the soil, so remediation is my most logical approach. Thankfully the herb garden is sti going strong because those didn't get the "con-post" as I tend to leave the perennials to their own devices. Live and learn, I guess. Its a set back, but nature always prevails. Potted veg for now.
Those are amazing spiders-as long as they are outside!! lol! They migrate! Which I found out when we lived in Tahlequah!! So so many of them, but they aren’t dangerous at least!
Had that snake in my yard here :( Now, I was born and early years in Arkansas, I do not want to run into a spider like that! I should have looked away. I hope the garden turns out beautiful now!
Absolutely love the cinderblocks idea! Father willing, next year maybe I can do this! Might be too late to get going this year with my other responsibilities.
And l am so happy to see that you have a bit of Australia there, with you!! The Scaecola plant is an Australian native! It's hardy in boggy soil or dry. It is a perennial in frost-free climates, so you might want to lay a frost cover over it, in the winter... and you might want to shift it to a bigger space, as it forms a dense mat 4-6" tall, and 3-5 ft across!! 😬 Common name, Fan Flower, as the petals are only around one side of the centre of each flower. I just love them. I have tried them here, when my trees had yet to grow, and they got frosted off, so l might get brave next pay, buy one, and try it under one of the Californian peppercorns, and see if that's enough shelter... hope this is helpful. Love, Bev x0 🦘🦘🦘
Hi ! Glad to see you back in the garden ! May I share something about the sage ? In a previous house , there was a little planter with kitchen sage that had over-wintered . The stem became woody and flourished ! It came with me to my next house , also in NJ , where it continued to grow , reaching the size of a 4' shrub ! In May , it was covered with the most gorgeous purple flowers...definitely a favorite of the bees , butterflies and hummingbirds ! You may want to experiment with one of your sage starts and see if Arkansas winters will yield similar results ! I came to your channel after the interview on The Life and am so happy to be here !
Thank you! My sage in Alabama overwintered very well. It's the same garden zone as here, so I am hoping it does well. My oregano that I planted last year did well. In Alabama I had rosemary, thyme, sage and oregano all year! It was lovely.
Everything is coming together, again so nicely. I love the cinder block bed with all the herbs & flowers plus asparagus. And I think those painted posts add a lot, sort of whimsical. I absolutely love your mountain Homestead, but the snakes and tarantulas would take some getting used to. Blessings to you and yours as you continue to make your beautiful place your own. ❤😊
Things are looking up:-)So much work,,but now on to growing:-)It's gonna be lush y'all,,hehe So that tarantula, and snake, and bugs,,,I would be dressed in a hazmat suit,,,😃🤣🤣🤣 Love the painted tee posts, looking more like your garden:-) I know you said before, but where do you get the headbands?I can't seem to find one that will stay on my head,LOL God bless you all,and your garden! Yes, it is starting to feel like my garden again. I actually mentioned to someone the other day, that THIS makes if feel like home. I ordered these headbands from Laurel Mercantile. www.laurelmercantile.com/collections/head-bands
I live in town, my neighbors cats use my flower beds as a litter box. My neighbor won’t do anything to keep her cat inside or from making a mess over here. Do you have any advice, I feel sorry for the cat, it’s out in all kinds of weather, I don’t want to hurt it, but I also don’t want its mess.

You are a role model for bouncing back! Thank you for your wonderful 'can do' example!
Loved seeing the rat snake and tarantula. Beautiful, healthy specimens!
You are resilient. Praise God for an attitude that pushes through. Your garden will be beautiful.

Beautiful black snake. I know you are glad to get rid of the dirt. I'm so sorry you had to deal with that. Have a great weekend.

Ha, ha,ha, same here but I did move here and am living in harmony with the black rat snakes.
Yep... 😂 I knew you'd take this bull of a problem by the horns and wrestle it right to the ground 💪🏻 Lookin great sis! 🌱 I think it's going to be better than before! 😁🌸
Glad you got your garden started again! So sorry about the contaminated soil 😞

🫣 I think I would lose it with the crunches!
Great job

What is that spider?😊 no ma’am😂 Is that normal for Arkansas?
@vnickcolvin4971 It's a tarantula. Yes, it is normal as they are native here. We don't see them very often though.
Thank you Laura. It's slowly starting to come together once again.
So glad to see you healing your garden. I’ve been praying that for you. I love your cinderblock garden! What a nice idea! I’m sure that made you happy! I recall seeing a carpet moving across a rural road in southern OK many decades ago. Yep. Tarantulas.😳😲
🤣
That is one big ass spider!!
Oh my word, I didn’t know tarantulas were in Arkansas!! 😳
Love the garden so far! You are inspiring me!! I love the cinder block bed too!! I’m going to do that around my chicken coop!🐓🌱

We only see them once in a while, usually in the road, and never more than one at a time so far. LOL
You could always use the diet in your walk ways and really cut back your weeding! Turn a negative to a positive!
Awesome job on redoing your garden! 😊

Oh, good to know!!! Thank you. I’ll transplant it to another spot today. ❤️
I’ve been sifting one of my raised beds for two days. My husband brought home some dirt full of small stones. He meant well….
Oh man!

yeah thats another good reason to keep them on a leash wow
you need one of those triggers for spay cans usually parts store have them

I know you said before, but where do you get the headbands?I can't seem to find one that will stay on my head,LOL
God bless you all,and your garden!

Well done! you didn't skip a beat. 👏👏 I like the cinder block bed - filling all the holes with plants.
Thanks! 😊
👍
What a wonderful idea with the cinder blocks! Can't wait to see your garden grow❤😊
Constance I always learn something wonderful from you. Thank you so much for sharing all you do with us!
Hard work but so worth it. Sorry it had to be done again. You are very talented. Northeast Arkansas here.
I don't mind looking at that spider as long as he's near your foot and not mine. Hairy, scary.
❤❤❤🕊️
I live in town, my neighbors cats use my flower beds as a litter box. My neighbor won’t do anything to keep her cat inside or from making a mess over here. Do you have any advice, I feel sorry for the cat, it’s out in all kinds of weather, I don’t want to hurt it, but I also don’t want its mess.
Re: the creepy crawler… it’s over 500 miles away from me so I can stand to see it!… any closer and I would rethink that 🤣🤣🤣
Looks like a momma. Nasty, I grew up with such creatures in FL long ago. But the reminder of respect remains.
Darn! You're a beautiful woman!
Snakes are one reason I won't live in south
