I've used both and Inventor is "faster" with some commands because it simply copied what SW does and tweaked a bit. The command for extrude boss or cut boss is in the same command. However, Inventor could not copy SW's simple file system(part, assembly and drawing), but instead needs(project, part, assembly, presentation w/representation(supposed to be configurations), and drawing). Also, on large assemblies Inventor tends to tumble like house of cards. So I would not use Inventor for any professional machinery designer with hundreds of parts. I also hate how inventor uses the term "constraint" for both sketch control and assembly control. I do like the "color" feature of Inventor for part file.
Come on SW guy. Overlapping the rib from the "top view" is sloppy. What if rib was thicker than 5mm? Now you must create a parallelogram or trapezoid sketch. Using, [draft] command was smart, but a "brute force"/"not efficient" way that is an "additional" command used. Do this: Use a single extrude command: a.) Sketch plane = front edge of part. Just like shown in the front view of the drawing. b.) Sketch a triangle: dim to edge, 45 deg and "PIERCE" constraint in corner. c.) Extrude: [from=offset=20] [blind=5] Done: i.) no additional [draft] command, or overlapping sloppy sketch. SW guy ii.) Same to you Inventor guy. Sloppy "over sketching". However, you did offset extrusion. Good. However, you fk'd up with "full round fillet". Pay attention to the drawing. Inventor gives you the edge with "multiple" extrude and cut operations in that one extrude command. What happened? Most of you guys may not be familiar with "pierce" constraint unless you do a lot of sweeping, lofting and surfacing. Pierce is key and always from a "point" to a "line". In some cases, you can use "coincident" command but in most cases is misleading, unreliable and frustrating.
