certainly agree rome. I've seen many this is total war with other factions, but none seems take on mother rome herself. going to be a huge challenge without pikes and in the middle of everything
Wtf, I try this one time. I had not food and no money after 2 turns because they stole it. I would find a steppe tribe quite interesting. I've found that if you have a pure cavalry army with a logistics boost that the agents slow you down as escorts. Please not Rom or other Mediterranean peoples with whom you quickly move to Africa. We've been through this so many times now. It's time for you to conquer new regions. But no matter what you choose, I'll be watching it.
I played the suebi recently and was surprised to get Wodanaz Spears just by building a shrine T2 no research needed. They kinda carried the early game for me.
Those hex-bearers-or 'witches,' as you called them-are such a fascinating unit! They feel like the closest thing to magic you can get in a historical setting. I’m curious to see how they perform in future battles once you’ve figured out their potential. Will they prove invaluable, or will they be left behind?
6:00 I think the debate about round shield swords vs club levy is more complicated than just looking at their defensive stats. I agree that club levy are better early game when cash is tight, but I think it needs to be considered that even with their bonus vs infantry the club levy still have 10 less melee attack and 9 less overall damage compared to the round shield swords. It's important to note too that without their bonus vs infantry club levy are nearly useless, and have much poorer morale as well. The tier 2 barracks however also gives you access to Bloodsworn however, which are almost certainly worth the upgrade cost even though they have less armor than the club levy. Something else I think about is that units that kill more quickly take less damage, are more likely to win 1v1 engagements without support, and are better for flanking since their offensive abilities allow their charges to be more impactful. And, speaking of which, round shield swords have 24 charge bonus vs 16 on the club levy. Again I think club levy are more cost efficient early game though but wanted to throw that out as food for thought
You make many good points! I agree later on Round Shield Swords are better as is basically any Tier 2 unit when compared with Tier 0. However early on the upkeep difference is massive with such a poor economy and I'd rather have 2 Club Levies for the same upkeep as 1 Round Shield. One important point is that precursor javelins are equally strong on all units so for the same upkeep of c. 100 denari we're getting extra 480 javs when going with 2 Club Levies over 1 Round Shield Sword. Also great point that units take less damage by killing faster. The same logic makes ballistae so much better than scorpions - even if over a long battle they might sometimes have similar kill count, Ballistae will score most of their kills before enemy units close the distance thus reducing overall damage enemy army deals. While scorpions deal their damage over a long time giving enemy more time to use those units. Also why I much prefer archers over slingers!
Fun fact. One of the Suebi clans were the Angriavarii. They were progenitors of the Angles. So when i learned this i did the most English thing possible. I invaded Britain and tried to make it my center Suebi heartland.
just discovered ur channel couple of days ago. fascinating gameplay. loved it instantly and watched ur carthage campaign in one day. after that started the kush campaign and catching up fast. keep up the work!:)
Yeah, other campaigns have pikes, elephants, even hoplites would crush anything up North early. But with only crappy units available this will be tough!
There isn‘t any (good quality) Iceni campaign on UA-cam to my knowledge and your videos inspired me to play them, so you might wanna cover them in a series at some point?
Maybe I will, but they have probably the best starting position in the game so it's fairly easy campaign. Would need to add some serious challenge to it
Really nice video! Recently I also started a this is total war Suebi Campaign on my channel, would be interesting to see if we take the same approach and how our progression aligns :). It definitely is a really fun faction to play!
Campaigns like this in which you have no easy access to units the AI can't deal with (i. e. Pikes, Elephants, Chariots) are my favourites. Suebi are a cool faction. Don't disregard Spear Brothers and Blood Sworn. Both units are excellent vs. the trashy starting early of the Barbarian factions, though I agree that more numbers (in Club Levy) are more important at the start. The light jav cav they get is also very good with enough micro. And don't forget about the Wodnaz Spears (or whatever they're called in English)! You can get them very early if I remember correctly and they're a good mainline unit for the whole campagin.
Agree, that's why non-Hellenic factions are so interesting to play! Spear Brothers are decent but not sure about Blood Sword - they have no armour! Wodanaz Spears are great but need slot and money for that temple building!
@TotalWarfare For my experience - which is quite a few years old - the Bloodsworns lack of armor is compensated for by their other stats as long as they fight other low to mid tier units. (Against high tier guys they're only good when flanking.) Especially the Celtic and Hellenic rostets are vulnerable to them! If you get second wind on your general you can also spam their rage ability constantly, which can be quite powerful. As for the Wodnaz Spears: If I remember correctly the temple you get them from will provide one unit of Wodnaz as garrison, which may help to justify building it. Anyhow I think you will do great no matter what unit you choose.
Their problem is not only low armour but also very low weapon damage which bonus vs. infantry compensates only to an extent. They won't even consistently and cleanly beat Celtic Warriors as they'll only deal c. 16 dmg on average vs. CW dealing 29.5 damage to them (they will have better chance to hit thanks to their higher melee attack but that also only compensates to an extent). They're really weird unit - not even good at what they're supposed to be good at (fighting other melee infantry) while getting obliterated by cavalry and projectiles. They really need more armour to be useful - Eastern axemen are similar high AP unit but way better with massive armour
@TotalWarfare Yeah, good points! My experience with them is probably a bit too outdated 😅 Just realized they don't even have rage anymore (did they even ever have it? Am I hallucinating? 😄 Was I playing with mods, but forgot that I had them? 🤔 No idea...).
How do you have so many skills to assign to generals upon leveling? In all my play through there’s only 3 trees to choose from. Are you playing with a mod?
Yeah - list of mods in the description. The vanilla skill tree gets boring after a while as cunning tree with logistics and movement is head and shoulders above the rest
in my campaign as egypt i have beaten all 4 rome factions, only anthony is left with no citys or provinces yet still has multiple armies and at least 7 fleets with no income whatsoever. how is this possible?
May I suggest/ask you, because I don't like "spoilers", and I love "previously, in the last episode", would it be please possible to add the intro of the previous episode at the beginning of the next (and so on) ?
If unsure what to do, strike! Which is what we do here. Let me know how you like Suebi as a faction and where should we expand next!
ROME!!! ⚔️
Rome with boss mods.
certainly agree rome. I've seen many this is total war with other factions, but none seems take on mother rome herself. going to be a huge challenge without pikes and in the middle of everything

So I guess Rome with an Africa ban?
That intro was incredible! What an epic way to kick off the new campaign! It looks extra challenging, and I can't wait to see how you tackle it!
Thanks! Yeah, it looks like a brutal campaign ahead!
Looking forward to watching the series!
Not a fan of vanilla Rome 2 but the way you play and narrate your videos I am a fan. Happy to be a new subscriber.
Nice! A new campaign. Good luck and have fun! I surely will have fun watching it.
Hope you enjoy it!
Waited so long for a suebi campaign last one was like 10years ago keep it UP !

They're special ops!

dude, that was awesome. Suebi was my favorite faction in TWR2. Could never crack them in campaign lol. Glad to know the boii was a trap lol
Appreciate it! Yeah Suebi are great and they play differently than other barbarians
Fun fact. One of the Suebi clans were the Angriavarii. They were progenitors of the Angles. So when i learned this i did the most English thing possible. I invaded Britain and tried to make it my center Suebi heartland.
Interesting! Taking over Britain is an excellent idea as it's the most defendable part of the map. And also quite rich!
@@TotalWarfare also it'll just do the Anglo migration. Just 8 centuries earlier 🤣
Since some of the Suebi are Angriavarii. Who later became Angles
just discovered ur channel couple of days ago. fascinating gameplay. loved it instantly and watched ur carthage campaign in one day. after that started the kush campaign and catching up fast. keep up the work!:)
Welcome aboard! Great you like it so much!
"How many onegoing campaigns do you want on your channel ?"
TotalWarfare : "Yes"
Love your videos man, I'll follow you, charge !⚔
Haha! I was actually going to make that exact poll, thanks for the reminder :)
Very nice! This look like a challenge, the other campaigns were a walk in the park compared with this one
Yeah, other campaigns have pikes, elephants, even hoplites would crush anything up North early. But with only crappy units available this will be tough!

Nice a germanic tribe. I don’t know how you can survive this but i would expand north to secure some borders.
Yeah, surviving will be tough! North seems like a good idea!
Good stuff excited to see the rest
oh myyyyy new campaign . sweeeeet
Enjoy!
Next episode please
Nice new campaign 👍
Enjoy!
Next episode now please !!😅

Yeah, list of mods in the description

If you build temple you can get easy woodaz spear , this unit absolut crash any other tier 1-2 unit
Agree, but we need a free building slot and money to do that, plus more money to hire them!
May I suggest/ask you, because I don't like "spoilers", and I love "previously, in the last episode", would it be please possible to add the intro of the previous episode at the beginning of the next (and so on) ?
You ever consider using the DEI mod? Great video btw
would be nice if we play some coop legendary campaigns
make battle numbers big again man
why don't you use cavalry to wipe out army when you win battle? stops them coming back
I do!
Good , NOW DEI!
Please reconsider your pronunciation - Boii, not Boyay, Cherusci, not Keruskay, Lugii, not Lugay
