I just remembered this sketch after seeing it this week on Paul Whitehouse's show looking at Eighties comedy. The thing is it's spot on . I hear people talking like this to elderly people all the time . Though I'm not that far from being elderly myself.
This just popped into my head after watching it first time it was broadcast back in the day. Looked it up and here it is! Of course, this won't be appealing to me when I become elderly as I plan on being more like Victor Meldrew.
FUN FACT: They day after this aired, Mel Smith did, in fact pop around in the morning to the home of every elderly British Person. That morning took him eleven years and four months, but that's just the kind of man Mel is. When asked why he felt he had to keep such a vague and ridiculous promise, Smith simply said "This is the stupidest thing I've ever done in my life."
The thing is, they don't make comedy like they used to. Smith and Jones are part of the Old Guys of Comedy, along with Monty Python gang. I am so very happy one still has access to these old episodes!
I am 78. I liked this sketch. The newsreader seemed a nice young chap, a bit like our Elsie's boy, don't you think?
I remember when it were all fields around here… 😔🌳
This has been reframed to make it widescreen and so you miss the best joke - the only town on the weather map is Bournemouth.
Soo funny back ...but now I AM the elderly!!
WHAT WAS THAT? SPEAK UP and stop mumbling!
HELLOO
I'll pop round in the morning, John, is that alright? That virus though, what a to-do!
TBF so were they and now they're a bit beyond that
We had to watch this at school in humanities to show us about stereotypes. Couldn't stop laughing :p
Clever and funny.
Now they could say: Remember Brexit? YOU VOTED FOR IT!
@steiner554 Dumb
Still salty?

Bit like talking to my Mum! The nights are drawing in aren’t they?! Also the summer is over when the longest day has passed 🤣
OMG, I say that too! I have officially arrived!
Classic I like it better now I'm getting old 😂❤
This clip is so underrated.
Brilliant 😁

All news and weather forecast's should be like this.🤣
Mel Smith channeling his inner Frankie Howerd.
Inner? Oo-er!
hahahah i watched this with my grandmar i couldnt beleive she laughed and didnt get offended.....
Probably because if anything, they're mocking the way young people talk to old people, more than old people themselves.
Brilliant..
The wether man is the best!
Brilliant these two.
Also introduced Queen at live aid, dressed as policemen 😀

I don’t believe you but I love it!
I'm going home tomorrow.
Offensive AND true
It looks like the caregivers are manning the news for them!
I'm afraid Mr. Rhys Jones could find himself cancelled for this

Now they are the elderly 😂. Well, not Mel Smith.
Gah! The re-framing means that the you don't see that Bournemouth has been labelled on the weather map!
I work in care and try my best not to speak to elderly people like this. They're old, not stupid.
LOL at 0:40.
Edi♈♋♋⛎🤟💪😽😼🏵️🌷🌻🌼💋💔
Fucking cruel ha ha
Is that alan carr doing the weather?
It's Mel Smith. Now sadly not with us.
Funny ,but today not pc . . . long live political incorrectness!!!!!
This sketch wouldn't be allowed today with all the woke sensitivities
SNL did a version of this in the last few years about the elderly and Amazon's Alexa. I think it can still be done.
This is meant to be news for the elderly, NOT news for people who lost their marbles.
But they DO go on like that!
"Hel-LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! How are YOUUUUUUUUUUUUUU?"
**That's** what these guys are getting at!
That's how people talk to them and always will!
And 95% of people that have lost their marbles are...........................elderly.
@@dantaylor7344 You obviously haven't been in the psychiatric clinics lately, or the detox units.
@@dnomyarnostaw Yeah OK mate, go do another lockdown jigsaw some of us have proper jobs!
