This is my favorite Elton John song.....it’s melody, arrangement, instrumentation, and his gorgeous voice.....almost brings me to tears....not because it’s sad, but because it’s just so damn beautiful...
Elton rose to fame a long time ago. This is one of his earliest hits, from 1970.
Almost Famous is an iconic film about a young rock journalist, a rock band and its groupies; this song drives one of the best scenes serving as a anthem to the tone of the era and 70s rock scene.
"Funeral for a Friend" is a great Elton song that's not heard often but should be.
Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding....THE BEST!
Agree 100000%
Yes, along with Love Lies Bleeding together!
Yes -- and Levon. Both on Madman across the Water.
Elton John is the best .Just pick one.You won't be disappointed.
"Nakita","Empty Garden","Goodbye Yellow Brick Road".I love anything Elton John.Great singer ,Great Storyteller,Great musician,Great producer.Brilliant.
Dude, about 15 yrs ago we went to see him. He came out on stage n said he had good but bad news. He said bad news is my band n their instruments did'nt make it to the show...20,000 people all looked at each other n said wtf he just say? but the good news is for the next 3 hours me n my piano are all yours...FKN AMAZING! Check out live stuff from the 70's...hes a character. Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me, Rocket Man, Don't, Go Breaking My Heart, Candle In the Wind, Iguess That's Why They Call Itthe Blues, Benny n the Jets,Saturday Night's Alright...just for starters
Elton is my all time favorite. he's got 5 decades of hits, and he's still making songs. He also has some of the best piano playing you'll ever hear. Your Song is probably my favorite, but Don't Let the Sun Go Down on Me is a close second.
I believe Bernie Taupin, the lyricist, wrote this song about his first wife, Maxine Feibelmann, who was actually a seamstress for Elton's band. Much of the rest of the song is made up of vignettes of street and concert life the band encountered while touring in America.
I’ve been listening to Elton John for probably 40 years and I never understood the lyrics until I read your comment it was wonderful to have some of that translated for me thank you so much
@@JH-rp3lj I work in the movie industry and many years ago we were doing a music video for The Lion King. We had several hours of setup before Elton was to appear but to our surprise, he showed up about two hours early. He didn't say anything to anyone, he just sat down at the piano and started playing. He wasn't rehearsing. He didn't play any of his many hits. He played golden oldies from his and our youth. J
ust for us. Just for the crew, to give us a little smile while doing our hard work.
Elton John 1970 - 75 is incredible! check out Rocket Man. Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. his early 70s songs are classics.
"Your Song" by Elton John is my favorite, and was his first hit.
There are so many great Elton John songs - Madman Across the Water, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Daniel, Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters, Rocket Man. Those are just off the top of my head. His things are great vocals, great instrumentation and great lyrics from Bernie Taupin. You will be happy with just about any EJ song you pick, but start with one of the songs I listed.
Love love this song! Elton John & Bernie Taupin...such a gifted writing team...love Elton's voice!
Elton had about 60 Albums since about 73 - I have been listening to him since then as a 12 year old - love him - I always wanted to see him live - my kids got me tickets for my birthday when he did his final tour 2 years ago in Australia when I was 58 - FANTASTIC - at his age he was incredible the vocals and energy was amazing and my kids in their 20's became fans that night.
He’s only had about 30-31 albums
Great reaction. Elton John is a perfect example of an expressive band leader and the drummer Nigel Olsen is the perfect example of a drummer who interprets the band leader perfectly. They bring out the excellence in each other.
Elton has a countless amount of hits and was the best selling artist of the ‘70s and is one of the best selling artists of all time. He’s an international icon and is regarded as one of the best rock/pop pianists of all time and had a top 40 hit every year for over 30 consecutive years. He is 74 years old and will soon resume his farewell tour. I can understand the Phil Colins comparison because Elton did the soundtrack for “The Lion King” (which won him an Oscar), and Phil Colins did the “Tarzan” one. I also suggest watching Elton’s movie “Rocketman” (which also got him an Oscar). Try reacting to the song “Rocket Man” next just for starters. Great reaction video 👍
“Goodbye Yellow Brick Road” and “Bennie and the Jets” have great vocals too.
Bernie Taupin provided the lyrics and Elton provided the rest. Amazing partnership. And btw, who else puts a country style pedal steel guitar with a string concerto, backed by a rock rythym section? Wow. Anyhoo, you should check out "Rocket Man" by Elton too.
Bernie Taupin wrote almost all Elton’s lyrics. It was the greatest collaboration in popular music history. “Someone Saved My Life Tonight”, “Funereal For a Friend”, “Levon”, etc., etc. Captain Fantastic, Madman Across the Water, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, etc, etc. Every song phenomenal. Elton’s vocals are so good it’s easy to overlook the fact that he is a piano- playing MFer, just as much emotion and feel in his playing as his voice. His melodies, progressions, arrangements are absolutely musical genius.
🎹🤯 "Daniel" & "Someone Saved My Life Tonight" are just 2 of my Elton faves! 🔥❤
undeniable talent Burn Down The Mission is my favourite of his!
great choice! love his early stuff
Benny And The Jets is awesome.
Nothing, nothing, NOTHING like early Elton. He was amazing. He & Bernie Taupin wrote many rock masterpieces. His band was/ is epic.
The scene in the movie Almost Famous with this song is worth checking out.
Fact!
Great, great movie.
I really find that scene so emotional, I don't really know why. But when Russell says that he has to go home and Penny replies "You ARE home" it always brings a lump to my throat.
Great road trip song.
Love that scene so much.
More Elton John please!
Elton John/Honky Cat studio version
Anything BUT "Honky Cat" or "Saturday Night's Alright for Fighting."
Many great songs from Elton John. "Levon" is one of my favorites. "Friends " was my class song in 72. It doesn't get much mention but is a heart tearing song. I think you would enjoy "Mad Man Across The Water ".
Oh I love Friends!
I was in the middle of typing and I hear “has he turned her into one of those little snow globe things” 😂😂😂 Messed me all up 😂😂😂 Great review 💯🔥🔥🔥
💞
Elton John, Neil Diamond, James Taylor, Carole King, Carly Simon, Joni Mitchell, Jackson Browne, Kenny Loggins, Bruce Springsteen, Stevie Nicks...... all legends. Their catalogues would fill volumes.
One of the GREATEST concerts on DVD is "Elton John: One Night Only" in Madison Square Garden, New York City (October 21, 2000). A good friend of mine was one of his six special guests that night. She got to choose which of his songs he would sing with her as a duet. The friend? The ultra hot Anastacia! The song? "Saturday Night's Alright (for Fighting)"! AWESOME PERFORMANCE! AWESOME CONCERT!
Your smile said it all!
Biz -- you've become my #1 favorite reactor. You are super smart, funny & entertaining. I love you grooving to the music. Thanks so much.
Finally got to see this LEGEND live in concert in Dallas back in 2014! INCREDIBLE PERFORMANCE!!!👏
Unfortunately, I was unable to catch either of his two return performances in Dallas in 2019. ☹️
Mona Lisas and Mad Hatters is an underrated masterpiece
Multiple hits in multiple decades Sir Elton John is a living legend he's the single most prolific artist in history IMO " Your Song " one of my personal favorites✌️♥️
Elton John and George Michael, don’t let the sun go down on me live is an absolute must!!!
definitely this
Great song. PLEASE do *Van Morrison's* "Tupelo Honey" or his "Days Like This"?? Both GREAT songs, my favorites. Thanks for the great music and reactions, love the channel!
"Into the mystic"!❤
Elton had one of the best vocals along with his great piano playing. His band with the incredible production is sublime!👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻❤️❤️❤️☮️🎤🎼🎹
Love Elton. Dig a little deeper... Take me to the Pilot. Captain Fantastic and the Brown Dirt Cowboy. Madman across the Water. Burn down the mission. All the girls love Alice.
Keep on rockin!
Elton John is a Legend. You must explore more of his music. Truly a talented human being. Loved your reaction. Daniel, Your Song. Some of my faves.
I knew you would love Sir Elton!!!
Elton is England's Piano Man, and Billy Joel is America's Piano Man. Yes Elton is well worth checking out. Pick one it will be worth it.
I think back in the day those two toured together. that would have been amazing to see.
@@meganparsons9106 I saw them at Ohio State Stadium. At the end of the show, they were playing together. Billy Joel's voice was so hoarse, he couldn't sing anymore. Elton had to sing Piano Man. It was AMAZING!
You could ask Elton John what's the meaning of this song and he will tell you, I don't know the meaning. He said in an interview that typically when Bernie hands him lyrics that he just wrote, there is no discussion about them. Elton receives them and writes music to them. He doesn't call Bernie and ask him what does this song mean? He reads the lyrics and gets the gist of the song but if there is any hidden meaning, he has no clue unless it's an obvious love song, Like Love Song or a song like Crocodile Rock which has simple lyrics. I find that to be quite interesting
This is my favorite Elton song!✌️😊
After throat surgery in 1987, his voice was never the same. He just couldn't hit the higher notes anymore. Personally, I much prefer the older Elton music, before 1975, such as this. The musical arrangements also seemed much more sophisticated and interesting. Great reaction, thanks!!
Totally agree. Tiny Dancer is from the album 'Madman across the Water' - one of his greatest albums, so much more creative musically than his later more commercial and 'pop' oriented output.
I believe this was about (inspired by) a real life seamtress for his band. I think she was a small woman, but for me it was a way to convey her vulnerability and inspire our protective instincts. Anyway, he obviously loves this woman deeply (yes, yes, I KNOW). She must have had an incredible soul. So, thanks to Elton, we are all now in love with and want to keep and protect the tiny dancer.....
Doh!!!! @Eddie Evans below reminds us that Bernie Taupin was the lyricist -- so, everything I wrote actually applies to Taupin -- SMH
My favorite song by Elton John is ‘I guess that’s why they call it the blues’ 💖💖
I also love that song good choice❤️✌️🌼
Ah man I wish you would have used the official video to this song. It just makes the song come alive with everyday people doing there thing. It even has a scene with Marilyn Mason with his snake 😳 Also this song is used in the movie Almost Famous in a great scene. Thanks for the reaction.
There were no music videos in 1972.
@@WMalven it's a video by vevo. It says official video. The song/music is old but the video is current. Look it up or maybe this will help
ua-cam.com/video/yYcyacLRPNs/v-deo.html
The description from the video says buildings on Elton & Taupin's California inspiration Max Weiland filmed a video for Tiny Dancer that reflects on life in LA from a dozen different perspectives. Supported by UA-cam, filmmakers were invited to create the first official music videos for three of Elton's most famous songs.
Elton John is a Disney contributor. Lion King, the opening song for one. Nice reaction.
Elton John was a king of piano rock in the 70s. Many hits. You picked a good one to start with. I'd say, for me, the song that really established him as a star early on was Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. I've read that Bennie and the Jets, another early Elton hit, was the song that inspired Axl Rose to become a rocker. Daniel, Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me, Philadelphia Freedom, Someone Saved My Life Tonight, Your Song, and many more. All are soft rock. He played at Princess Diana's funeral.
Elton is in my Top Five singers of all time.
Here is an extensive Fire list of songs of his, no joke, check them all out:
"Blue Eyes"
"Candle In The Wind"
"Club at the end of the street"
"Daniel"
"Don't Go Breaking My Heart" (with Kiki Dee)
"Goodbye Yellow Brick Road"
"Healing Hands"
"I Don't Wanna Go On With You Like That"
"I Guess That's Why They Call It The Blues"
"I'm Still Standing"
"Nikita"
"Rocket Man"
"Sacrifice"
"Sad Songs (Say So Much)"
"Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word"
"That's What Friends are For" (with Dionne Warwick, Stevie Wonder and Gladys Knight)
"Your Song"
But he has soooooo many others
"Rocket Man" .. "Levon" .. "Philadelphia Freedom" .. "Saturday Nights Alright" .. "Crocodile Rock" .. "Daniel" .. "Benny and the Jets" .. "Don't Let the Sun Go Down On Me" ...
I'm so happy you like him. Benny and the Jets, Rocket Man, Daniel.........so many great songs. I say start in the early days. Your Song 1969 on.
Great reaction Biz I love this song. Elton John has so many great songs you could practically start anywhere.😀👍❤️✌️🌼
Tiny Dancer (from the 1971 album "Madman Across The Water" ) refers to Maxine Feibelman "Seamstress for the band" who soon became Bernie's wife, A bitter divorce ensued in 1976 which shaped much of the album "Blue Moves". She appears in the Biopic "Rocketman" but is instead represented by a background actor.
Take Me to the Pilot, Burn Down the Mission, Mellow just to choose a few of my favorites.
Almost Famous Tiny Dancer scene on the bus is legendary now. Great songs - Mona Lisa's and Mad Hatters, Goodbye Yellow Brick Road, Someone Saved !y Life Tonight,, Bennie and the Jets, and of course Rocket Man.
Catch his autobiographical movie, Rocket Man! Great insight into Sir Elton !
The song is written about Maxine Taupin who was Bernie's wife at the time.
Ok..we can officially be friends😊..this is one of my favorite songs!!
You need to watch it live and the videos please XOXO
Sir Elton John is in a league of his own...So talented...Enjoy! ✌🏻🇨🇦
If you like vocals I’d suggest you listen some Journey. The singer, Steve Perry, was called the Voice for a reason. One of my all time favorite songs is one of theirs titled “Faithfully”. The have many hits, though, besides that one.
Elton John has a huge music catalog. Many of his album cuts rival his hit singles.
Try the title track from his first album called Empty Sky.
Couldn't agree more. Empty Sky is so awesome!
This is my favorite Elton John song. Wait till the strings kick in.
Levon is another great. This is what Elton John usually opens his concert with Tiny Dancer and Levon..x
Yes his music is so worth it!! Just pick any song 🎹♥️🎶 Can’t go wrong, saw him 1977 Charlotte NC 🔥🔥🔥 One of the top 3 concerts I have been to in my lifetime & that’s saying a lot!!Rocketman is a great song to start with, “Sorry Seems To Be The Hardest Word” is one of my personal favorites
ELTON JOHN, "TINY DANCER". ANOTHER SUPER STAR 70'S AT ITS BEST.. MORE, "SATURDAY NIGHT'S ALRIGHT FOR FIGHTING", "SOMEBODY SAVE MY LIFE TONIGHT" "CROCODILE ROCK", "DANIEL", YOUR SONG", "PHILADELPHIA FREEDOM", "GOOD BYE YELLOW BRICK ROAD", "BENNIE AND THE JETS" "FUNERAL FOR A FRIEND", TOO NAME A FEW..."MAD MAN ACROSS THE WATER ", ROCKET MAN".
I'm so glad to hear you will dive into Elton. Yeah, he had a couple of hits. 😆 The dude is a legend. I had an older sister who had 700 pictures of him plastered on her side of the bedroom wall. I got to see him in concert about 15 times. It was more like a family tradition than going to a concert. He literally ruled the 70s, had a lull in the 80s except for I'm Still Standing and then came back in the 90s and bitch slapped the doubters with the Lion King soundtrack and a killer tour with another vocal and piano legend, Billy Joel. If you want quintessential EJ tho, dive into the 70s. Madman Across the Water, Rocket Man, The King Must Die, Burn Down the Mission, and the masterpiece Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding. You wouldn't even be scratching the surface, but it's a start.
Yep Biz, “Almost famous” is a great movie that has a very touching scene featuring this song. Real good movie.
This is the opening track from the Madman Across the Water LP. Nicely done with smooth vocal arrangement, not overly produced, but with that touch of EJ class that was so indicative of the early LP's( and still present). Maybe check out the LP title track. I think you'd find it a bit different.
Welcome to one of the best. He has so many #1 hits it will take awhile to hear them all. Rocketman, Someone Saved my Life Tonight, Don’t let the Sun Go Down on me, Candle in the Wind, Bennie and the Jets...for a start.
You would love this entire album, especially the title track ("Madman Across The Water"). Some of the best string arrangements on any rock album. "Tumbleweed Connection" is another of Elton John's greatest albums.
"Madman Across The Water, Levon, Pinball Wizard, Funeral For A Friend/Love Lies Bleeding" All great songs by him, you will love them all. Trust me.
Elton John has many mega hits. This is one. Elton wrote all the music but he had a collaborator who wrote most of the lyrics.
His voice is even BETTER, now!!!
Goodbye Yelow Brick Road is his most famous plus Candle in.The Wind He did the songs for Disneys Lion King move including Can you feel the love tonight a superb song
You just made me so happy. I was singing with you the whole song.
This is in the very early days way before Reggie, I mean Elton had an operation on his vocal chords! She was the seamstress for the band and Bernie Taupin’s girlfriend at the time! Bernie wrote the lyrics as Elton wrote the music!
One of my favorite songs of all time.
Vocals.... The clarity, the range....
His musical partner Bernie Taupin was brilliant, add Elton's music and you cannot go wrong. If you got the time, Tumbleweed Connection is a country based album, and Blue Moves is a more orchestral one you might enjoy.... You don't have to react, I am just giving you some great music, delicious ear candy.
Elton had an over 40 year relationship with his songwriter and most of his musicians - Great duo - Bernie Taupin wrote the lyrics and Elton wrote the music - I'm pretty sure I read that Bernie wrote this about his wife
I heard that someone thought that the lyrics were “hold me closer Tony Danza”. 😀
great voice and has several hits
several - more than two but not many. He had 57 top 40 hits in the U.S. and 69 in the U.K. is a ____load more than several
@@k_salter many hits*
All them are hits and he also plays with different artists
There are hit songs on all of his albums. You just have to get them and listen. I don't know why but Madman Across The Water came to mind. Too many to list.
That instrument that's standing out is a steel guitar, extremely common in country and bluegrass.
You like vocals; do Celine Dion in a duet with the great Andrea Bocelli...........The Prayer.........also Celine's All By Myself. Two of the greatest vocalists alive.......
Auntie would like for you to PLEASE react to "someone saved my life tonight", by Sir Elton John. Elton John, and his partner David Furnish write all of Elton songs together, and believe me when I say Elton has an enormous catalog of music.
Wrong! 😊
Elton was a piano player who started out very shy about his voice. Very quickly it became just as much the star as his playing and compositional prowess.
you could see it in your face and yes bernie taupin who writes all of elton lyrics was talking about a tiny dancer in a snow globe
You like great vocals. I got a list for you. Freddie Mercury/Queen, Steve Perry/Journey, ELVIS, REO Speedwagon/ I recommend " Time For Me To Fly. Keep exploring & stay real.
Glad you enjoyed... if you want to see him in a spectacular Las Vegas live concert of Pinball Wizard...
Just put the following into the UA-cam search engine... you won't be disappointed. ( Even when you are old you can rock!)
"Elton John-Pinball Wizard-Red Piano (HQ)"
Philadelphia Freedom 🔥🔥🔥 70’s Elton John is the best
How many out there knew someone who thought he was singing "Hold me closer Tony Danza" ? LOL
Or on Roy Rogers...”The Mexican cowboy, who sings of the plains” :)
I was 17 years old back then on Sunset Blvd. I am 68 years something now. I can't really tell you how it was, you had to be there but it didn't matter who you were, how you dressed, what color you came in, love was in the air but the powerful ones do not like to see thing like that it scared them to think we could be making the "Rainbow Bridge" the connection between the heart and mine ... they knew how to make us fall short with the thing they been using for thousands of years (money, wars, ect.) but the people must keep trying to make this "Bridge"
Also affectionately known as "Hold me Closer Tony Danzer" 😄
Elton John has a ton of hits, that being said some of his more less played is fantastic, “ Mona Lisa and mad hatters” or “mad man across the water” or even his John Lennon tribute song “empty garden “
watch the movie "almost famous". not only will it give you more appreciation for this song but it will also give you some context of this golden era of music that we all felt at the time and that will never be repeated again
His live performance is amazing.
U should react to songs from Yellow Brick Road! I haven't heard this song in a long time! Always loved it!!👍♥️
