Hi Josh. Thank you very much for this video - it turned out to be a game changer for me. This might sound "strange" but after watching your video, I created a collection where I could "talk" to my dad, who died when I was younger, and there has been some episodes from my childhood, that I would have liked to talk to him about before he died but didn't have the opportunity to do so. I filled out the AI Prompt and now I can just write "Dad?" and Perplexity will reply like "Hey kiddo, what are you up to" etc. I'm completely mind blown how fast Perplexity "gets it" and quickly learns. I testet out GPT-4o AI model in Perplexity at first but switched to Claude 3.5 and found that Claude would carry the conversation in a much more human-like style. This is so amazing. And a bit scary.
Hi Ken, thank you for the feedback, and what a cool use case! Were you able to provide the model anything about your Dad to help it "assume his personality" (i.e. letters, videos, etc.?). Either way, very cool and thanks so much for sharing! 🙏 Finally, many agree with you, Claude is the better conversationalist, by a wide margin! 😊
@@josh.evilsizor After a hours of "talk" with my "dad", I would say that the experience is more like talking to any "bonus pater" (the latin word for 'the all-knowing farther'). It learns quickly, though and the conversation is really great, "dad"-clone or not :)
Very helpful! I thought "collections" were basically "folders" to store groups of chats. I was looking to see if Perplexity supported "bots" or "agents" and found your video. I see I can use collections for this! (I just wish I could add reference files direct in the collections)
Thank you so much for the kind and specific feedback, I greatly appreciate it! 🙏 I hear you on the files, that would be super handy. Claude does offer the ability to upload files for specific threads when working with teams, perhaps this might be a useful function for you? Either way, great feedback, thank you, and have a great day!
Love your style, Josh! All the details and walkthroughs are valuable. I've been using collections for SEO; creating collections for LSI keyword research, researching relevant studies for citations and researching special "factoids" to enhance the blog posts. Perplexity is becoming my "got-to" app.
I returned to view this video for a third time. Very useful - in content and how you approach giving an overview and examples of how to make effective use of Perplexity - and Collections as Agents. I would welcome another video on the use of Perplexity's API and the use of Custom LLMs. I aim to add a custom LLM - for example Samantha - Mistral 7B as an LLM that has been fine-tuned for my uses with Perplexity.,

Super useful. Thanks Josh. I would use it. One question I have is about using more than one agents in my prompt. And build a chain of agents to complete a complex task
Great video on Perplexity Collections - yes it is very similar to Custom GPTS. The prompting is very trial and error. Especially with instructions. You gave some amazing prompt structure examples.
Very interesting! I had no idea such a thing exists. I will definitely check it out. I'm primarily a coded/developer so most of my tinkering with AI has been with the various code apps. Thank you for the most informative presentation. It was well done.
Hi Josh, thank you very much for this video. I have a question (I would like to remained you that I'm Brazilian, so my english is not good) I see that I really need to read and learned more about chatbots prompts, and I would like to know if there is or exist special "commands" to write in chatbots prompts to get better response? Some kind of glossary. Thanks in advance for your attention.
Thank you for the really great question (in very good English by the way)! I phoned a friend on this one, I hope that's OK 🙏 www.perplexity.ai/search/Response-1-OUGPZeUiT8KoNu93B_8oWA?s=c (answers in English and Portuguese 🤓)
Gautham, thank you so much for the kind and helpful feedback! 🙏 If you have a moment, do you mind saying more about the "systemization" of the video that you enjoyed? No worries if not, but feedback from viewers like you is always incredibly helpful, and has helped tremendously to shape how I create these videos 🤓
I really like how you explain things and show examples. I am new to ai and want to learn how I might use it in my remodeling business. AND, I like how you appear to be from Columbus Ohio!
Love the video. I'm just now learning about the various ai tools available and came up with an idea that would help in my job. Can Perplexity use a website for a data source and then render results to a user similar to using ChatGPT and a prompt? The website has a many many links that dive into vast amounts of data and I'd love to have a single place I could use a prompt to get answers back rather than digging through massive amounts of links and data. Is something like this possible? Maybe using another tool like claude?
Thank you so much! I really appreciate it 🙏 You pose a really good question, and the short answer is, not that I'm aware of. There is a new tool called Lutra (lutra.ai) that can scrape data, but I don't believe this is what you're asking about. Sorry!
Hey! Super helpful! I live in Ohio too, in Lima! One question: what do you use the “rewrite” for in the video exactly? Does it do a better writing job with the rewrite feature or is it you just showing us that that option is available? Cheers!
Nice to meet you neighbor! 🤓 Regarding the rewrite function, that's a great question, I definitely could have done a better job explaining. Ultimately, using the other chatbots (via rewrite function) gives you the opportunity to pick the one best suited for the type of question you're asking. Or, if you didn't like the answer you got, cycling through the other chatbots can also be helpful.
Just ran across this video I’m learning perplexity! Help me understand something when I use collections and I’m sharing my agents. Can I actually place documents inside my agents also in order for me to share it do the other user have to have a subscription to perplexity?
Hi! Sorry for the delay! Unfortunately you cannot add documents like you can with Custom GPTs. You can share search results with anyone, but for someone to collaborate with you they would need an account, but not necessarily a subscription.
A really insightful question! 🤓 I primarily kept it off during the video to keep things moving most rapidly. During experimentation, prior to shooting, CoPilot was indeed, occasionally helpful. So, I guess the answer to your question is, it's a mixed bag, and likely dependent on your question type. I hope this helps! 🙏
Great video! I initially thought collections were like folders that would group previous queries. But there's so much more! Did you know that you can add uncollected previous queries to the collection?
You know, so the "perplexity" ai is coming up more frequently in my search these days... Also, I noticed that in my topic research it is getting recommending more to me. Funny thing is Google trends don't actually show data for the trends.. Can I have a conversation with you one to one???
Yessir, a great observation! When the news broke that Amazon invested in Perplexity, it's been on quite a tear - and for good reason! 🤓 All of my contact info is located in the video description... feel free to reach out!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! 🙏 You can always find the Google Doc outline in the video description, but happy to share it here: bit.ly/perplexity-agent Enjoy! 🤓
Hello, may I ask how the quick suggestions in the input box appear at 12:05 in the video? Are they set as keyboard shortcuts? It's so cool, I would like to learn how to set it up. Thank you
Ha ha! Good eye, and great question! 💪 That is the Windows 📋 Clipboard History native Windows app. Pressing the Windows + V keys enables and summons it. Truthfully? It's the tiniest of game changers! 🤓
Fantastic video tutorial! Love your teaching style and good vibe. It was great to see this in perplexity. I’ve been building learning agents for my college students to use and definitely want to encourage them to build their own. Are you in Ohio? Let’s connect!
Great question, thank you! According to their documentation (www.perplexity.ai/hub/faq/how-does-file-upload-work), 25MB is the file size limit - so whatever that equates to based on the content in your CSV, I would imagine is your limit?
I feel like I am going around in circles. I am trying to create a collection but everytime i enter my prompt, it gives me generic information on the prompt as if i have provided no context for the prompt. Can you see anything wrong with the below ai prompt? When i enter a company name, search that company name in place of [company name] in the following question "How does [Company Name] use Kubernetes in their operations?"
The prompt you shared with me is not bad, but there are probably a few ways that you might improve it. The simplest element I always offer folks is to be sure to include PAO: Persona Audience Output Secondly, have you tried asking other models? If you ask other models the same question and get similar results, it could be that you're not providing sufficient context. If you'd like some to dive a little deeper on providing context, please check out this Prompting Basics Playlist: ua-cam.com/play/PLIdIULPuFve59sNyi48Gc-09AualYwWE3.html
Is there a way to upload my own documents into Perplexity - like I can when creating a GPT. That's super useful when I can create an agent that has access to a set of my own documents.
GREAT Video. Great tool. thx a lot Josh. can you make a video, how we can make money out of it? (just asking bcs it was written in your description box)
I'm a bit confused on the difference between Personal Agents.. Assistant AI, and Custom GPTs. For example, if you create a Custom GPT application using OpenAI's GPT builder.. does their Store/Marketplace allow you to host it for others to try? Can you host it somewhere else if they reject it? And your cost is that, anyone using it will go towards your 40 messages/3hour limit? As an alternative, if you create a local web-app, it falls under the API pricing.. so the more popular it gets, the more it costs you? In either case, how does the pricing change between a prompt that requires a simple yes/no response, versus one that requires image analysis? My goal is to drag a pdf of a handwritten scan to a web-app (hosted locally or on OpenAI) that calls Chat-GPT4 Vision to do an OCR and extract data from a table, then perform some calculations on it, and finally print the results to a pdf (or append a new page to the original pdf). Should I use Perplexity [Agent], ChatGPT (Custom Builder or Assistant API)?
Have you done OCR testing on both? It seems like whichever one is the most consistent would be the better choice (I've found some models to be inconsistent).
After the description, you should answer the most important question. Why should I care... because you lost me right after the Intro/description. Otherwise, I have no doubt this would have been a great tutorial because you jumped right in how to make one.
Great question! 💪 That is the Windows 📋 Clipboard History native Windows app. Pressing the Windows + V keys enables and summons it. It's the tiniest of game changers! 🤓
Hi Nancy, and thank you for the question, I love these! 🤓 After reading and re-reading your question I must humbly admit, I'm not sure if I know how to answer your question. Is there any way you could provide additional context or details that might help me better understand what you would like to know? 🙏 Thanks again!
@@josh.evilsizor haha sorry. I created a custom GPT (OpenAI) to teach a python lesson. The intent was the GPT would ask questions in sequential order - otherwise, the lesson didn't make sense. I ended up having to write a step by step script using markdown - and after much iteration, I got it to work. This use case prompted my question to you. And now hopefully makes more sense?
Hi Josh, thanks for the video, i tried to summarize a youtube video but look this response: "I'm unable to access or summarize content from specific URLs, including UA-cam videos"
Hi Pedro, you are so very welcome! 🙏 And thank you for watching! I'm sorry to hear about your frustrations with Perplexity. Have you tried using the Gemini UA-cam extension? I explain how it works towards the end of my most recent video (as well as in one of my older Bard videos as well). Hey great question! 🤓 The short answer is no, pro not required. However, without seeing what you are actually doing, I can't be certain where Perplexity is failing you. If you'd like to make a quick screen share video (using loom or other similar software) and share that with me, I'd be happy to help you troubleshoot. Regardless, best of luck! 💪
Hi, I too am facing the same problem. Is this problem solved? It is ok if paid version is required but that should solve the problem. Can you guide please?
Thank you so much for reaching out! Do you mind refining your question for me a little more so I can be sure to provide a correct answer? Thank you so much! 🙏
Hi Oliver and thank you so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it! 🙏 I am also terribly sorry that Josh picked such a terrible example 😞 Wait, why are we talking about Josh in the 3rd person? 😆 I didn't include hotels or flights in this video because it would have been redundant to the information provided in my Bard overview and agent videos, linked below (which I realize you had no idea of knowing) - please check them out, I hope they are helpful. FYI - Bard (now Gemini) is, imho, the better choice for these two functions (hotel/flight searches/booking) because of it's unique "extensions" feature.
@@josh.evilsizor Okay, Reaching... Waooo I did not know about this wave... Thanks for info, looking up this Amazon move nowwwwwwwwwww😀😀😀😀😀😀
Where can I find the Google Drive or Documents you mentioned? Great post!
Thank you so much, I really appreciate it! 🙏 You can always find the Google Doc outline in the video description, but happy to share it here:

Enjoy!
Thank you so much! 🙏 I really appreciate it 😊 I am in Ohio, that sounds great!
Thank you
You're very welcome! 😊
Any idea what limits there are on the size of csv files - number of rows or columns - that one is able to upload for basic data analysis?
The simplest element I always offer folks is to be sure to include PAO:
Persona
Audience
Output
Secondly, have you tried asking other models? If you ask other models the same question and get similar results, it could be that you're not providing sufficient context.
If you'd like some to dive a little deeper on providing context, please check out this Prompting Basics Playlist:

Is there a way to upload my own documents into Perplexity - like I can when creating a GPT. That's super useful when I can create an agent that has access to a set of my own documents.
That's a great question Philip, and surprisingly, it looks like it is not (yet) possible. Hopefully something they've got planned, soon! 🤓 Cheers!
Thanx!
You are very welcome! 🙏
GREAT Video. Great tool. thx a lot Josh.
can you make a video, how we can make money out of it?
(just asking bcs it was written in your description box)
Great question! That's a tough one though, I'll definitely have to think about it for a minute.
It seems like whichever one is the most consistent would be the better choice (I've found some models to be inconsistent).
this is why i chose perplex over chat gpt its flexible even though it doesnt have features open Ai has
Definitely a strong argument for your choice of chatbots 💪
After the description, you should answer the most important question. Why should I care... because you lost me right after the Intro/description. Otherwise, I have no doubt this would have been a great tutorial because you jumped right in how to make one.
Excellent feedback, thank you so much! 🙏
cool video)
Thank you so much Ayoub, I really appreciate it! 🙏
How do you do this format with the Google Docs populating?
Great question! 💪 That is the Windows 📋 Clipboard History native Windows app. Pressing the Windows + V keys enables and summons it. It's the tiniest of game changers! 🤓
Can you create agents within gemini as well ??
Great question! 💪 The answer is yes:

(the video was made before Bard was renamed to Gemini)
Can this implicitly follow your prompts in the order you iterated them?
Hi Nancy, and thank you for the question, I love these! 🤓
After reading and re-reading your question I must humbly admit, I'm not sure if I know how to answer your question. Is there any way you could provide additional context or details that might help me better understand what you would like to know? 🙏
Thanks again!
How is this different than custom GPTs?
Great question -- not much! 😅
Here's a link to the most current video:

Noticed that collections don’t allow you to attach files like custom gpt or claude projects
Good eye! 🤓 This is indeed and unfortunately true.
Helpful video but could’ve been better of Josh Head took up way less visual real estate.
Thank you for the feedback Matthew, I greatly appreciate it! 🙏
It doesn't work for me. Perplexity simply ignores the prompt in the collection. Is it something that need pro subscription?
Hey great question! 🤓 The short answer is no, pro not required. However, without seeing what you are actually doing, I can't be certain where Perplexity is failing you.
If you'd like to make a quick screen share video (using loom or other similar software) and share that with me, I'd be happy to help you troubleshoot. Regardless, best of luck! 💪
@@josh.evilsizorHi Josh, where do I share the link to my loom recording? I don’t think I can do that here in the comments.
@@Gorillaradio you can, or you can email me, whichever you prefer josh*a*joshevilsizor.com
@@josh.evilsizor Ok, sent.
Hi, I too am facing the same problem. Is this problem solved? It is ok if paid version is required but that should solve the problem.
Can you guide please?
whether it's paid?
Thank you so much for reaching out! Do you mind refining your question for me a little more so I can be sure to provide a correct answer? Thank you so much! 🙏
@@josh.evilsizor should i pay for tokens to use it ?
This would have been more useful had Josh NOT used a foreign language. Can he make another video on booking a hotel room or a flight please?
Hi Oliver and thank you so much for the feedback, I really appreciate it! 🙏 I am also terribly sorry that Josh picked such a terrible example 😞 Wait, why are we talking about Josh in the 3rd person? 😆
I didn't include hotels or flights in this video because it would have been redundant to the information provided in my Bard overview and agent videos, linked below (which I realize you had no idea of knowing) - please check them out, I hope they are helpful.
FYI - Bard (now Gemini) is, imho, the better choice for these two functions (hotel/flight searches/booking) because of it's unique "extensions" feature. Check out the videos and lmk!

I already got my own personal perplexity going on. I hardly need more. . .🤔
Ha ha ha, I love it! Thank you for the feedback 🙏
don't make alot of collections. titles just drop out when organizing collections.
Super helpful, thank you so much! 🤓
I recommend redoing the video; it's impossible to follow you, a bit confusing.
You're probably right, thank you so much for the feedback! 🙏
I would not call simple or even complex preprompts "agents" as it does not quite hit the definition. I feel click-baited by the title of this video.
Thank you so much for the feedback Tomáš, I greatly appreciate it! 🙏
@@josh.evilsizorI am glad you took my comment positively. ♥ The video was otherwise of great quality, and I can see that a lot of work was put into it. I am going to subscribe to you so as not to miss any videos in case you decide to make about running real autonomous AI agents. :3
By the way, what software are you using for the face cam?
Personally when I consider the title agent, I think of it more like a virtual assistant, but there's so many other videos out there that are doing the same sort of products, so calling them something other than agents would be confusing to amateurs like myself who are just beginning learning ai, but I completely understand what you're saying as far as not being what most would consider agents, just wanted to play devil's advocate ,😊
@@Twinkle-Winkle You make a great point! 🤓
for technical person, this is a waste of time. i thought you would come up with something new. not just explaining collections in Perplexity.
Thank you for the feedback Justin, I really appreciate it - I hope you have a great day 🙏
Nice job Josh!
@@newgearmedia thank you! 😊
Oh my god this is exactly the video I've been looking for.
Ha ha! Thank you so much, glad you enjoyed it! 🤓
Thanks. Very useful.
