Just stumbled across this and decided to buy the watch bc of your review. Appreciate the honesty. Being a magnum PI fan, feels like a no brainer. Cheers!
Just saw a vintage Chronosport Quartz on Ebay complete with original bracelet & cardboard box $3250 USD . I must say this new one is very true to the original & also the cardboard box 😂 . So even though its possibly pushing it's $300 price tag I think for nostalgia & a really cool vintage vibe it's really not too bad . Cheers
The Magnum PI connection is by far the strongest selling point. Having never watched even a single episode it’s a hard pass for me. The packaging was a missed opportunity as there are plenty of thematic images that don’t require licensing rights if that in fact was a barrier to using any actual images from the show. It’s only paper after all. Your review on the other hand was what an enthusiast hopes for, fair and balanced.
Good review. I purchased this watch😊 I am thoroughly enjoying this one. Accurate quartz. Lightweight and comfortable. (I wear it on the provided bracelet. I have a 7.25/7.50 inch wrist.) Grab and go. I enjoy the look and legibility of the dial and hands. The crown size and function is really nice. The bezel action is better than ok but less than perfect. However, I enjoy the look of the insert. I would purchase again if I lost it.
I bought mine on the initial preorder. My bezel action is quite good and I don’t have any dust or debris in the dial. I’ve worn it swimming, snorkeling and pretty much everywhere else. It’s one of my favorite watches. Do much so that I bought the SQ30 Eclipse for use at work.
Nice review, very honest and to the point. I order one which should be coming by mid November, but I order it on the Tropic strap as I thought the price for the jubilee bracelet was too much and I can get a better jubilee from other suppliers. Definitely the appeal of the watch is due to the history due to the Magnum P.I. series, as there are other watches with much better specs in the same price range. I have to agree that Momentum could have done a better QC on this series of watches, since they are banking in its heritage to promote their brand. I will check mine when it comes and see how the second hand hit the markers, and if the bezel can be adjusted a bit better. Anyway a very informative vid, keep up the great work!
That one is fine. I really didn't remember Magnum's watches, only that we always need to waste Ivan. Momentum has Torpedo's out now...I've been waiting for one of those.
I think this is a very fair review. It’s definitely not perfect or even great value spec wise. But I got one for the nostalgia and love wearing it on the tropic style strap. Very comfortable and legible - but an emotionally driven buy on my part.
Good reveiw, already ordered mine arriving December (sometime) your right a bit of cool retroness (which I love) shame about the dust though, hopefully a one off. And bezel action, maybe the original had a friction bezel but there's no excuse nowadays for dust or a poor bezel. I did order it on the bracelet as the cost over the tropic is minimal and I've got loads of tropics but fitted end links on an aftermarket bracelet can be a nightmare to get a right fit. So looking forward to getting mine hopefully dust free. Cheers
Great review Sam. Cool watch but I wish it had better built quality. By the way, about your Magnum impersonation, I thought you looked more like lieutenant Mac😂
I was very excited about it. I bought one from the first batch. Unfortunately date stopped working after few months. Day is fine. Time is very accurate. Watch looks lovely, but now I am stuck. To send it back to Canada will be expensive and will take months... So I'll just use it with a broken date or try to take it to a local watch repair?...
I just received my watch and I like it. Could have been a little cheaper and the bezel is very sloppy, would not trust it as an actual dive watch but it has the cool factor for sure.
The original Magnum P.I. was and still is one of my favorite shows. I still watch them on line every now and then because the new show in comparison is awful. Maybe you can do a review on Higgins watch next. It seems to me he always wore a digital Casio but i could never get a good look. I know Rick always wore a dress watch and T.C. always wore his backwards.😂
Higgy's watches were in fact Hillerman's own. He was noted in a few interviews to be wearing Seiko Quartz digital watches of that era, same watches worn in the show.
For copyright reasons maybe they couldn't include Magnum images or promo materials to go in with the packaging. Although I believe they are also selling Magnum styled Hawaiian shirts on their website.
I was interested in what other characters wore and it appears Higgins wore a Seiko digital. TC wore a ? on the inner side of his wrist and Rick had a Cartier Tank.
It's such a cool watch, I wish I could wear it. 🤩 I'd have to beef up my wrists and grow a mustache first though, and sadly I think both are beyond my genetic setup... I am concerned about those parts that look chromed though. I've seen plenty of cheap watches (mainly from Citizen) that look like chrome, and it's not a good look.
The Magnum PI theme song is my ring tone ... so this is definitely on my wish list.

Looks a lot nicer than I thought it would look when you first started talking about it. I love the costume change and the Mario moustache! 🙌🤣

Totally agree!

Luckily I got it at the original promotion price of 195, and not 300!

Shouldn't it be covered under warranty?
@@MrBacchus18 it is but the hustle of sending it half way across the world... I’m debating with myself...
That's one shiney mustache 🤣
good review and honest ... the watch look nice better watches out there for the price..... .... cheers

It's actually an OG Seiko.

I've seen episodes where TC also wore a SeaQuartz although he was wearing it facing on the inside of his wrist.
It just looks great, and a sapphire bezel. Nice. Tom Selleck looks way camper than you, in that get up Sam. Who' d have thunk.
Dids yews keep its ?
I dids not!
@@CasualWatchReviews eyes taughts sow 👍
If it had the branding of Magnum PI they'd have to pay the IP owners and that would make it cost more.
Yep good point. Maybe even if the box had a Hawaiian shirt pattern. Seems like an opportunity missed for what was a special watch for them

Thought he wore a Rolex GMT
He did in later seasons, your right! Chronosport was worn in the first three seasons.
My heart wants to get it. My head however says I could do far better for the same money… 🫣
