  • The more things change...the more they stay the same! Never forget from whence it all came. Jim Crow is alive and well... we must fight tooth and nail

      Gregory Marsaw I disagree Curtis Mayfield was a smooth brother, He can open a sister's mind with real talk like this song, then lay her down with "Give Me Your Love" or "I'm A Fool For Ya"

    I have always loved this song. I didn't hear it until my late 30's. I have to say that Multiplicityme2too has captured the essence of this poignant Curtis Mayfield composition to near perfection. Great video!

    Love this song for the "Sign o' the Times" (Prince reference) Curtis was not only a legendary artist/entertainer but an activist and talented poet/lyricist 🥰 what the world needs now is his soul filled message to stamp out the hate and prejudice running rampant more than ever in these turbulent times.

  • @christinefonseca9102
    @christinefonseca9102 5 років тому +1

    Listening to this song....Jussie Smollett brought me here...his attack. A stark reminder that prejudice still exists, kept plump & alive by the hate of this divided nation. Thought of this song after hearing the news.... Curtis come back, you had the right idea for sure.

    I didn't want to 'thumbs up' this video, I wanted to 'HEART' this video!! Curtis Mayfield has always been deep, but when he decided to use his music to empower... he went in and gave it his all! Thank you, and RIP Curtis Mayfield.
    Today they pay these too lazy to think, sampling idiot rappers and singers so much money to put out lyrics that's mindless, misogynistic and over-sexualized, while still projecting that gang mentality with the constant slamming of each other's success as long as it's backed up by a tight beat. SMH!!

    Beautifully lush version with the pure and applied funk of the Afrikan drum solo @1:53 However, this isn't the one recorded at The Bitter End as that one is a delightful 8 min. 44 seconds long. Any Dr. Curtis Mayfield scholars here, I'm looking to locate where and when the version in this UA-cam video was recorded.

    • @chrisutley2859
      @chrisutley2859 7 місяців тому +1

      No. This is the original Bitter End version. The one that’s on current copies of the Curtis Live album is a modernized remake loaded with electric drums and synths and all that.
      I’ve had the CD of this album for 20+ years. I don’t know why this version was replaced on the current digital copies.
