I remember as a kid I would just make it my mission to try to keep the guys alive in the houses. Especially in the house you get dropped off at. I loved having my own little squad of bots haha.
Just did this on hard, but no way you can do it without quicksaving all the time. Also I do normal saves quite often as sort of "waypoints". It's very hard on hard. No rest, constant action basically. Also, it's hard to only use the stationary guns because you're so visible to the enemy so I used my own weapons alot which made me almost have a single ammo left on any weapon in the end. But I made it.
Bunker Charlie... Goddamn that one's hard on hard. Panzershreck spamming everywhere. I even brought the guy from the jeep with me and still it's not enough.

At the moment of this writing I'm at this mission on hard. My HP is instantly drained upon enemy contact, despite mowing down the Germans like weeds. MP40 shots take away 10hp and Kar98k shots take 30. I need to develop muscle memory to hit specific angles and kill or at least stun enemies so they won't kill me or ruin my HP in the first ten seconds.
Jabberminor I dunno if it's the same on lower difficulties, but ammo resupply has been drastically cut in this expansion pack. You're scrambling for ammo in the medic city mission. I kept my Thompson in reserve and even then I was down to 13 SMG ammo before reaching the German camp.
Basically you have to save A LOT. You also have to pick up anything that gives you the slightest bit of ammo and make every shot count I completed this game on hard. It too me like 1 month.
Great expansion, but it's funny they put the L42A1, a sniper rifle that didn't come in existence until 1970, in the game. I wonder why they didn't just put a scope on the Lee Enfield?
@xmehdistarx Did you pick up the shotgun? I had this problem when I did it first time, but just try to make each shot count. That's what makes Breakthrough quite difficult.
This level is a Bitch! Even on Easy setting. And yes, I am guessing it was Battle Mountain for a reason, but COME ON. This level feels more Luck-based rather than Skill-based.

It's difficult to keep them alive I'm afraid. It's best just to continue on.

I never let go of the LMB when I was on the .30 cal.
