loved Anne's voice, really miss her from Tv and radio.
I love that the Aer Lingus strike talks were “understandably” held up by the bank holiday weekend. Slower, simpler times. I remember entering the Lyon’s Tea win an Escort competition over from London visiting my grandmother.
Its frightening when you can actually remember some of those ads and programmes!
@Colm Thomas Reilly check and let us know, will you?!
All of them. God that took me back
@@johnwayneonacid1366 I remember the ads for dosing cattle and sheep 'Rincas, Rust and Septoria'. Back then, the big question was, Do you use 10:10:20 or 8:8:18?. Michael Dillon (Cowjak) on Mart and Market. Happy days. I still have the theme tune in my head!
I was in Junior Infants in primary school back then.. memories 🤗
What was surprising & pleasing about watching these old adverts on the Irish state broadcaster RTÉ1 TV from the early 1980s was the fact that many of the adverts were native rather than "foreign" i.e. not as many "imported" adverts from UK TV or at least many of the adverts shown were voiced by narators whose voices were in (general)Irish accents. However some of the programming featured "imported" TV shows from the UK TV as well aa the usual American TV. But nice to see and hear this on the fledgingly Irish Republic's national TV channel!
Sad that the recording ballsed up on the intro, would’ve been interesting to hear it properly
Anne Doyle. Such a voice!
I really love the pointing stick used for the weather charts.
Ann Doyle was gorgeous back then I'm sure she still is.
That was Frank Kelly in the Batchelors add
Feic!
Feck
Yes, he did a lot voiceover for ads
So there WAS a time, many years ago, when RTE employees spoke well and spoke clearly...
There is a building society ad at 17.45. the manager reminds me of Terry Wogan, there is a very brief shot at 17.45 of the manager nodding and smiling. Terry Wogan worked in a bank before going into entertainment
It's a shame the news title is warped as i remember it being an impressive opening title.
"A three year old was burned to death". They didn't mince their words then.
That’s an Horrific news bulletin. All deaths and killings and a 3 year old dying in a tent!!! Bloody hell
that how i remember RTE the news back with joy to watch not protracted like today's news dragged out and boing and going outside to other news correspondents for news updates . the should just read news as its prepared and cut out all the prattle. Anne Doyle knew how to comport herself . not like some of the female news anchors today
Ah the old weather charts. They used to print them in the newspapers aswell.
Aer Lingus strikes, some things never change.
It would be nice to see older RTE footage online dated 1979 & older or more from years past online the eve of June Bank Holiday Monday.
In 1980, what were the broadcast times for the news bulletins on RTE 1 and RTE 2? Was there just an early evening and main evening news, as I guess there was no such thing as the lunchtime news on RTE Television in 1980? Thanks.
@@johnking5174 On RTE 1 there would be two main bulletins at 6.15 and 9.00 pm, both 15 minutes long. Not sure about RTE 2.
@@johnnyfeen1347 All removed from UA-cam should be put back online throughout the years yours and others Telifis Eireann (1961-1966), RTE (1966-1978) & RTE 1 & RTE 2 separate stations since 1978, (1988-2004) RTE 2 called Network 2. I would have sworn the early evening news always came on at a minute past six (at least on ordinary week days), just after the Angelus. Mandela Effect, I suppose?! Although now as I think about it, round about this time they used to put on fifteen minutes of cartoons (usually Popeye) between the Angelus and the News, unless I'm confabulating that, too!
10% interest. What a great time to have a few bob in the bank.
Inflation massive though.
@@johnmc3862 Like it is now except now Banks charge for having savings. But we love them all the same.
Ann Doyles diction was great then with her Rs
Later she began to pronounce things like Betty Ahen for Bertie, and Mayee Hanny for M Harney
Who could match Michael Ryan for delivery
Weather legend Paddy Mc Hugh. Not a sign of yellow wind or orange heat wave
RTE1 announcer sounded like John Bowman
The RTE slightly condensing tone.
The announcer was Eoin White.
@@stewartlynch1284 thanks for name of announcer
Listen to her voice and pronunciation then listen to Varadkar speaking!
Larry Gogan doing the Special K ad.
3:50 it is Bernadette Ní Ghallchóir ?
Its Anne Doyle, was a newsreader for many years at RTE, retired a few years back.
7:05 that sounds really bizarre, I wonder were there many “crowbangers” deployed by farmers in Crosmaglen ,south Armagh back then??
@@Diaspora1759Wonder why they didn't put out the description of the man who'd been beaten to death? I know it was another jurisdiction, but if they were going to run the story at all...
wonder who won the ford elite.
I always knew that Beany and Barney were gay - batchelors me ar*e!
I'd actually buy lyons tea if I could win a Ford escort.
The only good thing about this video is . . ."Ann Doyle".
Was Lyons tea really been advertised by little cartoons in blackface
Yes, were still using them up to at least the late 90s
@@johnnyfeen1347 I never noticed before
