This is the most helpful video I’ve ever discovered on this platform. So straight to the point!
Thank you! I truly appreciate your support 😊
Dude this guys voice
Kermit the frog 🐸
Lol
😂😂😂
Put a plugin on that sh*t too 😂
Don't be an ass.
Thanks Kermit we appreciate it
i got the apollo duo twin x , it's superb. I'm loving it ! Mc
Once I upgraded to the Apollo, I've never looked back. It's a great interface for sure!
Literally my exact settings. I go a little lighter on the LA-2A though
Thanks for sharing! 😊
Will be making use of this! Thanks for sharing!😊
You’re very welcome! Thanks for leaving a comment 😊
I been recording music for the last 30 year on different interfaces and the Apollo is a beast get your vocal list record different takes on different settings on the pre amp and compressor and I bet your track will sound clean you will know when it’s warm and crispy DSP is game changer I have golden age pre amp and a la2a compressor sounds the same
I agree! For me, once I experienced recording with the DSP running the UAD plugins in real time with zero latency, there is no going back. 😊
The slow attack on the 1176 is actually still very fast compared to any other compressor. 20 microseconds being fastest to 800 microseconds the slowest…. Which is still very fast. Campared to the CL1B for example, the attack time ranges from 300 milliseconds to .5 second. 1 millisecond is 1000 microseconds…
Yes it’s true! The 1176 is a very fast compressor.
I run the avalon pre into the cl1b 🔥🔥🔥
Nice! Thanks for sharing 😊
Yo Kermit the frog spitting facts
That one actually made me laugh 😂
Wait on the 1176 fast attack/release is all the way to the right? I thought it was to the left? Am I trippin?
The settings on the 1176 are opposite of most compressors.
Check out the full tutorial on the 1176:

I got the apollo twin and the real hardware LA 610 pre amp compressor.
Nice! That’s an awesome set up 👍
Nice
Great interface for sure 👍
Kif from Futurama sure knows a lot about recording
😂 I sure try!
I am getting distorted vocals when I record. I am using the Apollo twin duo and the blue baby bottle microphone running straight into the Apollo. Any suggestions please???😢
Make sure you’re not setting the gain level too high. Meter should be lighting green and at most peaking at yellow (-18db to -10db on the meters). Here is an in depth tutorial of I record vocals with the Apollo: ua-cam.com/video/UDWSBnV0obM/v-deo.html Hope it helps! 😊
Can anyone tell me why my uad isnt showing as an option on my input/output in logic audio settings?
Go into your audio settings in Logic Pro and change your input/output device to the Apollo interface. Here is a link from Universal Audio’s official website that you may find helpful: www.uaudio.com/blog/logic-pro-apollo-setup/
What headphones do you recommend for record vocals?
My go-to studio headphones for many years now have been the Beyerdynamics DT770 Pros. Here is my review of them:
ua-cam.com/video/xlhnLpI7evg/v-deo.html
I want to love the LA2A but it is noisy! Any suggestions?
Not sure what you mean by noisy. If you have an untreated room or just work in a noisy environment, any compressor will bring down the loud parts and boost the quiet parts of a recording (including background noise).
A solution that has worked for me is to use the Waves NS1 noise suppressor plugin and it helps to clean up background noise. Hope it helps!
How much gr for the 1176 should be reduced
Hey Impel Skies, I just released a full tutorial on how to use the 1176 on vocals, you can check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/Fss1ewFGnVM/v-deo.html
But to answer your question, I would say on average 3-5db.
kirmet da frog
How do you print those effects way in? For those who want to
Make sure to select UAD REC mode in the UAD Console App in order to print the plugins to your recording.
@@homestudioacademy thanks! Is apollo twin compitable with windows laptops tho? And what is Even thunderbold3 😅 it's complicated
@@exhaust4246 from what I know, it’s mainly for Mac computers. Even though it’s compatible with PC I have read comments of people running into issues so it’s hit or miss.
Apollo twin with lewitt 440 pure is a good combo?
Definitely!
@@homestudioacademy thank you!
@@user-tt1fz2dk2f you’re very welcome!
Do you record with the plugins or just monitoring...
Hey Smapz kht! It depends on the situation. When it comes to music production I prefer to use UAD Monitoring. This way, I can still hear the plugins but they don’t get printed and if I need to makes changes later in my DAW, it will allow me to do so in post production. However, if I’m doing talking head videos or spoken word applications, then I use UAD record because I know that will be my final mix.
No eq?
Typically I don’t like to record with EQ and add in post. However, if I do, I use the Pultec EQ as shown in the full tutorial: How To Record VOCALS With The APOLLO TWIN + UAD
ua-cam.com/video/UDWSBnV0obM/v-deo.html
Isn’t the fastest release the lower number for compressors usually? Same with attack.
Yes for most compressors but not for the 1176. Here is my tutorial of it:

@@homestudioacademy I shit my pants the first time I learned that😂
The 1176 time controls work in the complete opposite way than any other compressors
@@SilentSyndicate correct, it’s opposite of most compressors.
Does the pre amp actually make a difference ? because it’s just the signal before it hits the daw anyway (new engineer here)
Yes, the preamp will add color and change the tone. Some preamps are extremely clean while others like the 610B will add a bit of tube warmth and saturation to the sound when cracked all the way up.
@@homestudioacademy thank you for the reply I’ve just purchased the neve 1073! Just wanted to ask aswell I have the API channel strip and use it strictly for the noise gate for cleaner vocals would I be better off buying c vox and putting that on my chain instead ?
@@Uptxwn-Nai you’re very welcome. I’m unfamiliar with the C Vox so I can’t comment without testing it out for myself. When it comes to noise reduction, my go-to is the Waves NS1 noise suppressor. Just keep in mind the more you use, the more it effects the sound in a negative way so I use it sparingly to bring down the reverb in my room when needed. My advice is for you to watch different tutorials of both and then decided what you think will best work for you.
@@homestudioacademy waves ns1 will deffo have a look into it before making a decision just subscribed aswell appreciate the help will be looking out for future content 👊👊
@@Uptxwn-Nai thank you so much! I truly appreciate your support. 😊
Hello) Please tell me Does apollo twin or apollo solo work with the program Nvidia ShadowPlay?
The Apollo is an audio interface which will work with your computers audio. It will ultimately become the assigned input and output sound for your computer so it should. But, I’m not familiar with Nvidia ShadowPlay
1176 attack and release works opposite you are actually turning it even fast attact
On most compressors yes but on the 1176 it’s backwards. Even Grammy Winning Producer Greg Wells has explained so: ua-cam.com/video/X5S0mtKyjms/v-deo.htmlsi=m0HCh-5kvJuNa1YM
you don't need a real mic, the uad, any of the plugins, grab videos and photos and glue them together..
done. 👍♥️
Warmthness
😂 I know I misspoke but can’t fix it now
Should I do all that if someone else mixes n masters my songs ?
Depends, if you want the effects to be printed then yes. But if you’re going to heave someone else mix it, I would just keep the dry signal and let them add effects later.
@@homestudioacademy thanks
@@hgrecords9495 you’re very welcome
Do we use this while recording vocals or after recording vocals?
Depends. If you want the effects to be printed onto the recording then I would record using the UAD REC mode on the console app. If you want to record dry and then add the plugins later, I would record with the UAD MON mode.
In general my vocal chain is the following:
1. 610B Preamp
2. DeEsser
3. Subtractive EQ (Logic Pro stock)
4. 1176
5. LA2A
6. Pultec EQ
Hope it helps! 😊
@@homestudioacademy But this is a chain for UAD Apollo or DAW? Do you think base on your experience should be a good idea record and print with preamp and compression so the chain on the DAW can be more efficient in order to mix? Thank you!
@@JuanDanielY it can be for both and really comes down to personal preference. If you want to minimize post production, go with UAD REC mode and print. However, I prefer to use UAD MON which doesn’t print because it allows me to do changes after the fact in my DAW in case I over compress or add too much eq
Which good for quality preamp
Id14 audient or apolo twin x
Both have great sounding preamps. Here is my full comparison between the id24 (which has the same pres as the id14) and the Apollo: ua-cam.com/video/xDhUGV7271k/v-deo.html
Hope it helps! 😊
@@homestudioacademy great !
I think now apollo + Uad = id14 audient
But the apollo has différence Just in latency.
@@21recordsmix zero latency, the included plugins and the ability to run those plugins without relying on your computer’s processor is the reason why I chose to buy the Apollo. However, if don’t care for those features, go with the Audient.
warmthness?
😂 misspoke but can’t change it now
Do you record the effects or just monitoring
Depends on the application. If it’s spoken word (like talking head UA-cam videos) I print the effect. However, for music production, I just monitor to get the best performance. This way it gives me the flexibility to make changes in the mixing stage.
yea thats usually how i do it but what is the signal you have coming in ? idk if having the compressor will change the recorded input signal with no compressor on it @@homestudioacademy
@@guilladogui8259 here is the full tutorial on my singing vocal chain:
ua-cam.com/video/UDWSBnV0obM/v-deo.html
For spoken word, I use the 610B preamp, 1176 and la2a compressors. Then I go into my daw and use a de-easer and eq
@halfconscious agreed! Very well explained.
does this go with an apollo solo with neumann tlm 102
The Apollo Solo should be able to run the UAD plugins just not as many as the Duo Core or Quad Core.
@@homestudioacademy ok cool I've never been able to work it I sounds weird haha using them inside console
Thanks kermet
i ahte the HEADPHONE OUTPUT. to LOW Not Loud Enough

Apollo with rode nt1A, good combo?
I love the Apollo but prefer the NT1 over the NT1A. It has more of a flat frequency response which is more neutral sounding.
please don’t teach this to nobody !!!
Never said to use our ear and to listen to the changes, very very bad tip
Hey Luke Galvan, that’s a must of course!
Noooope.. never!!! Maybe for your setting and mixing.. never put plug-ins on your input 😂 lesson number one
The Console App gives you 2 recording modes: UAD RECORD if want to print the plugins or UAD MON if you just want to hear the effects but not print. You get to pick.

How do you record though 😅

It is not that easy!
Of course, a good performance is critical. However, this was just a short showcasing my vocal chain on the Apollo.
you don’t set the make up gain with the input knob on la 2a
Actually the la-2a is designed right to left…so the make up gain is the knob on the left coming after the peak reduction in the signal path.
Edit: LA-2a doesn’t have an input knob so maybe you meant the 1176’s input gain knob? But yeah la-2a is flip flopped
Ummm... results? Thumbs down.
This was just a short taken from a long format video. Here it is for you to hear the results:

Step one should be like:
Sell your Apollo and buy something instead.
(Spoiler) it has to be not AVID either…
