I completely agree with your observation about Jaco's influence in the bass groove Alejandra is playing here, she's an excellent jazz trained bass player !
I have watched (or heard) several of these live sessions on Sirius, they often ask the artist to play a cover of a song they like. The Warning obviously agreed & chose this one (with approval)
Yup, this is just perfection across the board. That bass, Dany’s vocals (that bridge is mesmerizing🥰). But Pau back there totally vibing & singing along to herself just warms my heart. Just can’t beat a good ‘Animosity’ song😂
This performance proves their versatility as musicians. They could serve as the backing band for anyone - not that I think that will happen. But it serves as food for thought for future collabs. Dany's picking on this song is excellent and flawless. Pau switches from a brush to a stick and back during the song. That's not easily done. And yes, Ale can play Jazz as well as Rock and Blues. Her mentor gave her that kind of versaility drilling her on scales and using her bass to immediately match the note or chord he was playing on his bass or guitar. Of course, it helps that she has perfect pitch. With all that as a foundation, she became able to perform with Dany and Pau after spending about a year into her lessons. And since then she has worked on her speed of execution, switching from fingerstyle to using a pick (and sometimes back within the same song). I'm sure she envisions how to play songs while she listens to them. Once you're a bassist, you always focus on what the bass player does in a song.
OUTSTANDING analysis, I'm going to speculate haha that you are a fellow musician. My weapon of choice for the past 35yrs has been guitar while also being an intermediate bass player. I absolutely love this band of fantastic sisters
I don't think a cover here and there will relegate them to cover-band status. I hope they absolutely slay some more covers for us. They are big-time rock stars now. 🤩🔥⚡
If you listen to certain TW songs you get a sense of just how incredible Ale’s bass chops are. In this cover she absolutely stands out. But then, we have Pau, destroyer of kits, playing brush and setting a vibe from the get that is insanely cool and not at all expected. Then there is Dany, playing guitar while delivering her signature power then slipping in to anguish then back to power. Power, I dare say, the original vocal could never achieve. Every time they cover a song they own it. Think of the stars who played on the original. Legends. At 24, 22 and 19, Dany, Pau and Ale are already at their level. Mind blowing.
I know Ale listens to a good bit of French disco, but the funk on that bass tone and the way she had every note mute exactly enough to squeeze the funk out here and there, well it was some exquisite playing for sure!
I had the good fortune to see Alanis in concert during her Jagged Little Pill tour and she did not disappoint. She was all over the stage and killing it, I could feel the rage when she sang this song! That was at a time when female singer/songwriters didn't usually express such raw emotion so it was refreshingly surprising when that song and album came out. Being a huge and long-time The Warning fan, I love this cover! The band just slays their covers and Dany's voice just captures the emotion so well. Wondered if she would change the raw lyrics in a couple places, which she did. Pau always a brilliant drummer and Ale knocked it out of the park with her bass groove. I think Alanis would be proud.
Great reaction as usual guys. One new recommendation would be the recent clip from Halestorm "Familiar Taste of Poison" live with Dany sitting in on guitar. We get to see more Dany shredding.
This has gotten a LOT of replays on my phone and my big screen ......Ale's bass playing is over the top GOOD! Pau is doing EXACTLY what the song needs...and is she COOL or what! There are not enough words of praise for Dany's performance here....both vocally AND guitar......I think we take her too much for granted! Would this work as a single today...Damn right! Last song of a seven song set done for the octane series (available on the app)! Thanks Guys!
@@warrenschulze350 The drumming on this is seriously top quality. I recommend watching Taylor Hawkins throw himself into this on Letterman (its fun), it shows the pocket Pau is in for this.
I had forgotten that Pau mentioned this song in that interview. I love this version, they absolutely killed it. And that bass!!! 🎸🎸🤘🤘 This is also kind of a full circle moment, The Warning opened for Foo Fighters shortly before Taylor Hawkins' death, Taylor played drums for Alanis on the Jagged Little Pill album tour.
Good background info Glenn. I've watched this many times for past few days on a couple channels and I was blown away by Dany's voice and the jazzy feel the music has, especially Ale's bass line. Everything they touch is gold (or platinum). Alanis Morissette's version made her the next best thing at the time. I feel so old.
Dany absolutely Crushed it, and Pau was feeling it also, but Ale... Thunder Goddess strikes again !!! ⚡Viva The WARNING⚡ NWSU/FloorFan/Epican/Ayreonaut/TWA/PauFan🤘😎🤘.
Ale on bass was impressive, simply immaculate but with a speed in his fingers and his notes always on point. Pau, in relax mode without destroying the drums always in rhythm, but by God Dany in that rock star mode when he puts his killer look is unstoppable. It's impressive how they can move from one genre to another and blend in with ease, they are definitely played by the rock gods.
Exceptional. Dany's beautiful voice and guitar in the bridge, Pau's brush work, Ale's everything, were all things we had not heard from them before. These ladies can play whatever is needed for the moment. The acoustic sets from Sofar and other sources are amazing, too. I am still vibrating from seeing them 3 weeks ago.
As young as they are, the girls are really professional musicians. You don't see this dedication to the craft much anymore. And don't forget, Ale's still a teenager for craps sake. What are they going to produce in the next ten years!
Great! Great reaction! Qué me pareció? Estoy absolutamente impactada! Por qué me sorprendo? Ellas son geniales, ya debería acostumbrarme. Concuerdo con ustedes, ESTO ES THE WARNING! excelentes canciones originales... Y mucho, mucho más. Ale y su excelsa ejecución, Pau y su maestría y Dany, madre mía Daniela! Su voz, su interpretación, la guitarra... Allá va otro original reemplazado por el cover de DPA. Thanks Glenn and Adrian!
I've been an Alanis fan since I was a teenager and her songs have been in playlist since then. But I just need to say that Dany is playing as Dave Navarro and she performs/sings at least at the same level as Alanis AT THE SAME TIME. Ale and Pau were excellent.
Nice cover!!! Everything was so good, but I gotta say, I've never seen a drummer cover this song and do the brush scrub on the snare for the intros. Nice Pau!
What a fantastic cover blew me away as a Canadian I love Alanis and I think she'll love their version. Ale's bass stood out for me as well. DPA never disappoint they are amazing. 🔥⚡
I'm a TW fan but also a musician from Monterrey, Mx. and I can confirm Ale loves many of the most iconic bass players like Pastoriuos thanks to some fellow friends of mine who are also close to the Villarreal Vélez family. And you can notice she is in her element playing jazzy bass lines, it would be amazing if we ever see Ale doing a collab with some jazz artist/band in the future. To me she is the most musically disciplined out of the three. Not saying that Dany and Pau are not talented, but you can see on their videos Ale is the most attached to the rules of songs and music styles. Her sense of tempo is just outstanding!
I agree with what most people say, Dany made it hers now. That subtle guitar notes she does as she hit those high vocal notes is very impressive. She covers Alanis Morisette and Dave Navarro. Btw I had no idea Navarro and Flea from the RHCP wore asked to rewrite the music for the song.
Awesome. I love Dany's vocals. I don't remember if you checked it out before but Ale's mentor Pablo Sarre started her on Jazz and she has practiced some of Jaco's pieces.
I love Alanis, but I think I actually prefer this version. I like the changes they made. Dany's voice is amazing, Bass line is fantastic and Pau looks Gangster back there. Great performance.
Dany´s vocals are more than just on point, it´s like this song was written for her. A lot has been said about how they have all trained and worked hard at learning their instruments. But not enough has been said about their vocal training. I would love to know who´s been Dany´s vocal coach, you can tell she has trained her voice. I´m sure all three of them have, Pau has an amazing voice as well. They crushed this song, but I´m not surprised. One thing you learn to expect from these ladies is excellence, nothing else will do!! And yes, I like this better than the original!!
Each one of her did great, qnd was somehow refreshing for them : Pau with the soft beats, Ale with the funky grooves, and Dani with her raging vocals... and her prude rewriting of the lyrics. She gave in her vocals and guitar, the rock she retracted from the lyrics.
"It also kind of sounded like (Ale's) been listening to Jaco Pastorius who played with Joni Mitchell and Weather Report and was an absolutely phenomenal legendary Bass Player." Ale's been listening to/ playing like Jaco for most of her life. I love Rock and Jazz; I could tell upon first hearing Ale that she's a world-class Jazz Bassist playing Rock. A video of Ale playing Jaco's legendary, incredibly difficult, "Donna Lee" at 12 confirmed it. Ale wasn't trying to play it; she just played it. (Sorry, Mr. Flea). Ale is a prodigy. Ale stated in a September interview with "Guitar World: Bass Player" that Jaco is her greatest musical inspiration. Ale started playing Jaco's entire catalog at 9 (incredible). Ale plays Jazz during extended The Warning warm-ups.
As soon as i heard this i automatically thought "Glenn and adrian are going to love this" it was a top level performance from them and i agree that they shouldn't be known for doing covers so lets enjoy this as a one off.
Wow!!! That studio has something magical, every single song DPA play sounds so clean. Also really both your guys would interview the Warning, l mean there are a lot experiences and passion for the music. Thanks
Killer cover, such vocals evoking anger and angst and Ale's Bass I mean that groove... and Pau so much cool and never seen here using a brush with the snare. Siblings Magic for sure.

I will say this...they didn't just pull that one out of their ass, they were obviously working on it for awhile...Dany had the tones and effects programmed into the Kemper, they had a click running, and Pau had worked out the right hand switch from brush to stick to brush to stick to perfection...
It looked like you were anticipating what she would do what “that” word and I couldn’t tell if you were pleased. Dany made it her own. It was haunting when they were in the interlude.
They slayed this especially as it’s live. The original is great because Alanis pulls off Out of control while in control to make that song so memorable ( check out her introductory appearance on David Letterman). I really enjoyed DPAs version because they made it their own. Dany’s vocals especially in the breakdown is so beautiful and Ale crushed that bass line really driving the tune and yes Pau is the coolest including some cool brush work. Great choice guys!
Every song Dany sings, she sings like she is living it. This gave me chills.
No fancy hair or dressings, pure rock as the good old days! Go The Warning!
Ale makes it look easy playing that bass funky groove.
