I have the Glossy Bay Shelby. The April Fool's one is okay but the forelock reminds me of Elvis lol. But I'm happy with the glossy I got. All three of the gambler's choices were nice.
I am never going to unsee the Elvis reference now, lol. I agree that all 3 Shelbys were nice - I think that's one of the rare times I would have been happen with any of the options.
@@ECRHorses1901 sorry about that Elvis reference lol. I never knew there were that many Nokota models! Thank you for all your research and hard work educating us on him 🙂
I have a couple Nokotas. One of the downsides is they are real space hogs. I haven't shown any of mine but I have had at least one out for a photo shoot and he is a difficult one to pose as too much one way or another really makes him look put together wrong. I have found several models like that really. You just have to play around until you find just the right angle that doesn't make them look wonky. I really like Bats in the Belfry. That one is a favorite of mine.
You know, I hadn't considered his being a space hog due to his "unique" pose since so far he's just been by himself. I can definitely see that being the case, though! Thank you for confirming my hunch about him being a challenge for photo shows. And yes, Bats in the Belfry is fun!
My friend Shannon is “Queen of the Nokota mold”. She has two of the BF auction models including that lovely glossy bay tobiano pinto. I’m going to send her this video. She’ll be pleased that you now see the charms of the mold. I like the mold well enough but I didn’t realize I had so many on it until you started listing them. I have a bit of a soft spot for it because I was drawn for both of the raffles - Viajero & Muse. I also have Moon Warrior, Bats in the Belfrey, glossy bay POC, Sundance (who I sold then bought back) & the crystal. I also had Toro at one point but sold him. That’s a lot for a mold that I think is ok. Mine do well at live shows, especially for an older mold. That will probably chance once the new PC Mustang mare is released. The Viajero & Muse have stacks of NAN cards but that’s to be expected of raffle models. The glossy bay POC & Sundance have a couple of breed NAN cards each. Moon Warrior has only been to one show & he NAN’ed in breed & collectibility. So the mold does well. Don’t worry about not posting as many vids. I’ll be here to watch whenever they drop.
Yes! When I started really looking at each of the models that had been done on this mold, I was frankly surprised by how many I thought were nice. I am, as ever, in awe of your collection. :)
@@learobinson4450 Hi, My name is Joel Cawthon. I'm a long time Breyer collector in Port Washington WI. I'm the King 👑 of the Breyer shire mare mold. She's always been my favorite Breyer mold since the age of seven. I'm sixty now. Anyway I just wanted to let you know that I'm only missing two of the very hard to find shire mares. The models are Testudo (very limited piece) and the glossy dapple grey shire.I don't know if the glossy dapple grey shire was a test piece or what. I don't remember that particular model in gloss when I was a kid. I have all four of the Riegsecker shires from 1985 as well as all four of the Bernadette decorator shires from 2019. The glossy Copenhagen shire is my most favorite Breyer model ever. I have 45 shires in my collection. There are some duplicates but so what. I love them all. I thought that you'd like to hear this from me. There aren't very many men in this hobby but I'm proud to be one of them. I've never been embarrassed by that either. I have loved horses all of my life. I love most animals. My favorite animals are dogs, cats, horses and I like nice people. Thanks for reading my message! Take care!!!! @joelcawthon5729. Hello, Joel. So nice of you to leave a comment in response to mine. I believe I recently sold a model to you but for the life of me I can’t remember which one, though I know it wasn’t a Shire Mare since I’m keeping the 1992 Sears Palomino, which is the only one I have. had several ads on Model Horse Sales Pages & you contacted me. It was earlier this summer before BF. I remember mailing it to a gentleman living in a retirement community in WI. I’ve looked through my emails but I recently deleted several so I didn’t find yours. I happy to see men & boys involved in the hobby. Models horses are truly for everyone. I’m sure your collection & conga of Shires is amazing. If you still have my email feel free to contact me. Lea
I hear you! When I first started collecting, I made a giant list of all my favorites after browsing through Identify Your Breyer, and sooo many were like, runs of 20 or fewer. It's truly unfair, lol.
For me Nokota is A tier 😅 I own 45 models on this mold. Im only missing the top 3 glossies, Viajero, Muse and Spindeltop. By now they are probably out of my budget/price range. Im glad to have spent the money I spent a few years ago when I could. And when I see what ones currently list for my jaw drops.
Wow! 45 Nokota models is very impressive! I know what you mean about the $$$ models currently list for. I really do kick myself sometimes for staying out of the hobby for so long!
Yes, he’s all head, you put it well. When taking his picture, I turn his butt toward the camera so his head looks more in proportion. I’ve always been on the fence about this mold. Moody sculpts are all about movement and attitude which hold a lot of appeal for me so I do own two Nokotas. I love the one you chose, I believe it’s one of the best. Really enjoyed your video, you did a great job. I subscribed. Best wishes!
So after seeing Nokota in so many different iterations, some of which you think are really nice, would you say that the available options influences whether a Breyer is F-Tier? Or is it primarily based on the mold?
So when I first tier ranked all of the traditional molds, I was so brand new to the hobby that I learned about some of them for the first time! My initial rankings were pretty much based off my first impression of the mold and if it was one I could envision wanting as part of my collection. I am indeed taking into consideration the full range of models on each mold as well as how much I like having the mold in-hand when deciding how to re-rank now. In truth, it's all for fun - I don't have the bandwidth to create a formal rubric! lol :)
I never got any of these models til I bought the Gambler's choice Shelby. As I am a die hard pinto lover, I am cursed by Breyer because whenever they offer the gamblers choice with a pinto I always get the appaloosa. Needless to say this was no different. I got the appaloosa one. I was going to sell him but I set him where I could see him and he grew on me so he will stay. I would like to get him in pinto at some point.
Oh no! Yeah, that is the risk of gambler's choice models. I've only sprung for a few since I started collecting. One I got my first choice, the second I had no preference (last year's holiday decorator on the Huck mold), and the last time, I got my least favorite. That's when I decided I was maybe done with that for awhile, lol. I hope that the pinto finds his way to you. :)
I'm selling part of my Breyer collection. I have the glossy bay Shelby that I'd sell to you. The horse is mint and I'd sell him for a fair price. Thanks! Joel C. :)
Hi, Joel! I'm tapped out of extra money this month because of birthdays and some unexpected purchases, but I may reach out to see if you still have him on hand in October. :)
I’m with you! This mold is sub-par and is a step backwards compared to the other beautiful Breyer models of its time. Bad conformation. Unattractive face. And unrealistic pose that lends itself more to a Barbie horse or a toy company that doesn’t really understand horse conformation/movement. Just fine for a kids’ toy, but doesn’t cut it for anyone who knows what Breyer is capable of and compares this to any of the incredible sculptures Breyer has produced.

You should do a collection tour series! I’d love to see your collection and I’m sure others would too

@ECRHorses1901 I know,, I rlly love the old clydesdale mold aswell. 😭🥹
I used to collect bryer horses every year. Many I bought myself at retail stores. I love the ones with real hair.they were so realistic and fun

I have Cheveyo and Shelby on the Nokota mold. Shelby has many holes in his mane and seemes to be done a lot cheaper than the older Cheveyo. 😒
Yay for Cheveyo! But sorry to hear that your Shelby has so many flaws. Sadly, factory flaws seem to be more and more of an issue every year.
