A-Sides Performance: The Naked and Famous "Last Forever" (10.4.16)

- We dodged a bullet. Auckland band The Naked and Famous nearly broke up between their second and third albums following the split between band members and co-founders Alisa Xayalith and Thom Powers. Lucky for us, the pair chose to truck on, and as they always do, channel their emotions through infectious, anthemic pop-rock music. The result of staying together is their latest album entitled Simple Forms, which drops Oct. 14. First single “Higher,” which is already a hit, finds the Kiwis in their finest form.
“Time is the medicine
To heal these needs
That only raise our voices…
Higher, higher”
Try not to be inspired by those lyrics. In any event, Xayalith and Powers sat down for an A-SIDES session and interview last month, and discussed keeping the five-piece band intact, their new record in general, and reflected on a summer that had just slipped by. Watch below and be reminded (if you need to be) why you fell in love with them on their 2011 breakout debut Passive Me, Aggressive You (“Young Blood?” “Punching In a Dream?” Timeless.), and on their powerful sophomore work In Rolling Waves.
Oh, and catch them on tour would you? Check out tour dates at thenakedandfamous.com/.

About A-Sides with Jon Chattman at thisisasides.com
Jon Chattman's music/entertainment series typically features celebrities and artists (established or not) from all genres performing a track, and discussing what it means to them. This informal series focuses on the artist making art in a low-threatening, extremely informal (sometime humorous) way. No bells, no whistles -- just the music performed in a random, low-key setting followed by an unrehearsed chat. In an industry where everything often gets overblown and over manufactured, Jon strives for a refreshing change. Artists featured on the series include Imagine Dragons, Melissa Etheridge, Yoko Ono, Elle King, Joe Perry, Alice Cooper, fun, Bleachers, Charli XCX, Marina and the Diamonds, Jimmy Eat World, and Bastille.
their voices sound great togother
Beautiful version of the song!
This is my fav song from the album
Same!
My favorite as well, I just love the pacing of the song, the lyrics and I love how the recorded version ends with them singing out with just their voices, powerful beautiful stuff. I haven't seen this live recording before, awesome.
Same, this is my favorite in the record. The tempo and beat of Last Forever is the same of the song Supercut by Lorde. Only the rythm, because both songs have different melodies. 🌟👂🎶
it still baffles me how they can sing this breakup song together
Wait... Why?
@@cherrydarling7937 The two people singing used to be in a relationship but unfortunately they eventually broke up :( so eya is saying that it is weird how they sing this together when they are not in a relationship anymore
@@patrickreilly7658 oh... Wow...aybe that's why the song is so good
@@patrickreilly7658 I think the fact Alisa and Thom broke makes this stronger because they continue making music, they are best friends since high school. They are becoming more powerful in their music. 👏🌟
@@alextint5987 I do think that their music is stronger because of that now that you mention it. Never thought of it that way! :D
Love you both so much and this sounded amazing!
I love this song so much... they need more views!
Soooooo good!
They are so amazing when they play acoustic. I actually like them better this way.
perfect voice Alissa
Hi Alisa,my favoritist singer ever.....😚😎
man this is such a killer breakup song
👍👍👍👍👍 Great, perfect!!
Know what? You make my life a little better
I wonder what is the song of the first five seconds
"A sides ... Xxxxxxx... Here we go"
1.25x speed sounds like the original :o
What equipment did you guys use to record these two?!
Anyone else notice that this is the same chord progression as Re: Stacks by Bon Iver shifted up a key...?
Look both are my favorite artists . I’ve probably watched this video ten times. But today as soon as the music starts, all I can hear is “ This my excavation. “ . 😊
Can someone tell me the chords?
Capo on the 3rd fret, chords in verse are Dsus4 (x-x-0-2-3-3), G (3-2-0-0-3-3), Cadd9 (x-3-2-0-3-3), chords in chorus are Dsus4, Em7/13 (0-2-2-0-3-3), G, Cadd9 ... G. Note that every chord has that 3rd fret on the B and high E string, that's what makes it so beautiful. Have fun! ;-)
Anyone else think Thom is actually a better singer than Alisa
Perhaps, but together they make a wonderful harmony. Sum greater than the parts.
