- How to replace shifter #knob on a DSG transmission in Volkswagen cars. I've got this set of replacement parts from Banggood to install in Golf MK7 (5G) instead of the standard leather finish. This #DSG option using red inserts, more aluminiom and less leather. It matches GTI interior better than the stock one.
ℹ️ #Replacement is fairly easy, as seen in this tutorial. First you need to pry the top cover from underneath. It will pop up. Then each side is held by 4 mounting points. 3 of them are easy to access, the 4th one is little bit tricky. I've used long sharp tool to pry the 4th mount. Removing second half of the shifter knob is easier as the 4th mount is now accessible.
⚠️ Mounting points on the side cover are fragile can break when disassembling the shifter. Especially if you are working in cold weather plastics tend to break more easily.
ℹ️ Installing the new part is as easy as positioning it in the right spot and pressing into place until you hear all mounting points click. You can use aluminium or leather top cover accomplish desired looks of your cars interior.

don't like the red stripe personally but would definitely go for the all-leather shifter
You can wrap the red parts with black vinyl so it’s les flashy.

I ended up wrapping the red part with vinyl film to match my dashboard.

I'm watching for details about the shift knob as I just got today a letter from VW about a recall regarding this part. They say this needs to be changed on my 2 month old car as the chrome may peel and if that happens I may get cut. I'm not so sure I want to take the car to the dealer for such a replacement. I suspect they may break more clips and mar some edges. And I really hope they don't order the new parts on BangGood or AliExpress.
I just got the same letter on a recall. They looked it and did nothing. From what I hear, you gotta have a major feeling for them to do anything. They just got the car dirty and wasted my time.

Is it really aluminum or nice looking plastic? 🤔 Was looking at the same thing, but was very sceptical about the quality.
I would describe it like this: not as nice as factory fitted but better than expected for ~$20. No sharp edges, I’m happy with it.

My trigger for dsg has come loose can lift it up. Any idea how to fix?

Great video the fake chrome on my Mk 7 GTD is pealing. Not impressed with the VW quality I will give this a go!
